Perhaps the problem is in my understanding of how it works.

I've got 2 items on the Alert tab for this server. Both the SMTP alert and
the SOUND alert are configred to fire after 3 times down. The SMTP alert
seems to be working correctly. After finding 100%, it waits for the next 2
checks to also be 100%. Therefore, it only fires after 3 minutes of 100%
utilization. (That's such a rare occurrance that I haven't verified that it
is actually working.)

On the other hand, the SOUND alert doesn't appear to be waiting for the 3rd
time down.

For instance, today I captured the following entries:
Friday, June 27, 2003 07:53:40 Perfmon (Processor,% Processor Time,0) down
Friday, June 27, 2003 07:53:40 Perfmon (Processor,% Processor Time,0) down
Friday, June 27, 2003 07:53:40 Playing a sound
Friday, June 27, 2003 08:17:02 Perfmon (Processor,% Processor Time,0) down
Friday, June 27, 2003 08:17:03 Perfmon (Processor,% Processor Time,0) down
Friday, June 27, 2003 08:17:03 Playing a sound
Friday, June 27, 2003 08:40:29 Perfmon (Processor,% Processor Time,0) down
Friday, June 27, 2003 08:40:30 Perfmon (Processor,% Processor Time,0) down
Friday, June 27, 2003 08:40:30 Playing a sound

The way I understand it, at 07:54 the "down" counter should have been reset
to zero. Why then did the sound alert fire again at 08:17?

(Sorry about the minimal log entries. Didn't want to leave it on maximum
overnight - in case it ate up too much disk.)
