We settled on Jabber because it is a solid, stable, open-source solution which lets us run our own server and control our own security destiny. We evaluated all the similar commercial products (and several which are still in testing) but found no inherent advantage in them and the licensing costs were exhorbitant. Plus the fact that there are a huge number of jabber clients available for a great number of client operating systems. It's been a great decision for us.
