POPPager would also use a modem to effectivly send it to a
gateway/carrier.
One other option could be to use SNPP or SMPP are paging
protocol. They are both network protocols. Combined with the failure
settings (dial-up networking) they would still work even if the internet
connection is down, as it would then use the failure setting (dial-up
networking) to connect to the internet.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm trying to configure
that option as I type this. I thought my friend had texting with his
carrier but am still waiting to find out. I guess I could send
everything to an e-mail box and then use PopPager to get it and send it out that
way. Any problems with that?
Of course, this is all dependant on the main router and pipe being up...

Numeric paging isn't reliable as it's not based on a
protocol.
Alpha paging (SMS) is reliable as it's based on a
protocol. However there are still several "weak" points: the modem, the
line, the gateway and the speed of the provider. But it works.

Just finishing up
evaluations on Servers Alive. I'm really digging the product. Anyone
got the Alpha/Numeric paging working? I don't currently have a service to
dial into (still working that) so I was wondering how it
worked?
Thanks
Rick
