A horde? Paints an interesting picture of a
ruthless band of developers seeking out any and all network deviances
:-)
To put in my two pennies I have been using SA for a
while now and it has saved my backside from the flames of unemployment a few
times.
It's currently monitoring a 14\7, 2000+ seat
call centre infrastructure containing MX, DB, DNS, Web and dialler systems
(as well as the usual Windows AD set-up) split across 7 sites. It's set to
sms text me or one of the other team (depending who is on-call) when
systems are down, services have stopped running or even when the Comms rooms
have gotten too hot. It has convinced my boss (a die hard fan of another
monitoring product costing thous££££££) to stop hassling me to implement what
every one else is using and to turn on more SA monitoring.
On top of that, anything I have ever wanted to
do with it has either been explained in the manual, by one of the many regular
contributors to the list or by Dirk himself.
I'll admit the first time I paid for SA I was
worrying if I'd thrown (relatively little) money away. But I can safely
say it has been the best professional buy I have made.

? This raises an interesting
point. To be honest, I've always assumed that Dirk = Woodstone = Dirk. Is
there a vast horde of Woodstoners hiding behind the scenes?

Don't forget the rest of the Woodstone team. Not to slight Dirk for
all of the work he does answering these emails, but it takes the whole
team to keep this running.
