Thanks for the input. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about SA and am excited about our purchase. Since I don't have the checkbook, I have to send the request to the boss. For the relatively little money, I think we're getting much in return.
It's a huge bang for the buck. We use two instances of it and it does everything I've asked of it. And MUCH more. Heck, I know I haven't tapped 1/2 the features of it.
But what's even better is, if there's a problem, a missing feature, etc. Dirk is right there to answer your question, fulfill most requests (or explain why they can't be, etc.)
Now try doing that with say HP.. "Umm. Openview doesn't have this feature...." See what kind of answer (if any) you get.
If you don't mind me asking... how did you configure your SMS stuff. I'm still searching for a way to configure it. I just have to find someone that has the ability to text from their phone.

A horde? Paints an interesting picture of a ruthless band of developers seeking out any and all network deviances :-)
To put in my two pennies I have been using SA for a while now and it has saved my backside from the flames of unemployment a few times.
It's currently monitoring a 14\7, 2000+ seat call centre infrastructure containing MX, DB, DNS, Web and dialler systems (as well as the usual Windows AD set-up) split across 7 sites. It's set to sms text me or one of the other team (depending who is on-call) when systems are down, services have stopped running or even when the Comms rooms have gotten too hot. It has convinced my boss (a die hard fan of another monitoring product costing thous££££££) to stop hassling me to implement what every one else is using and to turn on more SA monitoring.
On top of that, anything I have ever wanted to do with it has either been explained in the manual, by one of the many regular contributors to the list or by Dirk himself.
I'll admit the first time I paid for SA I was worrying if I'd thrown (relatively little) money away. But I can safely say it has been the best professional buy I have made.

- ? This raises an interesting point. To be honest, I've always assumed that Dirk = Woodstone = Dirk. Is there a vast horde of Woodstoners hiding behind the scenes?
