Fourth, the issue causing the most visible debate within the SAP DB
community seems to be the change from LGPL to GPL as the licensing scheme.
We understand your concerns and the desire to continue to be able to
exploit the benefits of a great database system without any obligations.
However, had the licensing and business model for SAP DB proven itself
viable, we wouldn't today have any partnership between SAP AG and MySQL
AB. Bear in mind that neither SAP AG nor MySQL AB are charities.

I'd like very much to know about the opinion of both teams on a fork of the current LGPL client libraries. Would you help in any way the development? Would you try to stop that development, or try to make the new libs incompatible with older ones? Would a team of forkers of the LGPL libraries see any hostility against them ?
Provided that the changes and modifications to the rebranded libraries will be GPL, it would be quite easy to track them and update the older libraries so that they support the new protocols and features... how do you feel about this? any official position? any personal one?
:)

Thank you!
