Choice to pay up, freedom to move on to another database... Seriously, consider a Java application that requires a relational database in the storage tier. Maybe we are lucky and can avoid any database specific code, maybe we end up with some MySQL specific SQL statements embedded in our code (but no direct references to any of the com.mysql.* classes). The JDBC driver itself is neither modified nor linked to the code. Now do we need to GPL the project? Do developers who (re)use our project need to GPL their project? If yes, could someone point out the relevant passages in the GPL?
