Bob,

Thank you very much. Your reply/advice was taken in the manner intended.

I see what you are saying about step 4 versus 18. My confusion was partially
on that point of "understanding" versus "running" and the info that is in
the README, and I'll post that here.

This is a very basic example of a "simple" Satchmo store.

So you should at least be able to understand my confusion. The webpage told
me to become familiar with simple and the first thing I see when I look at
simple is a README that says I can run it straight out of the box. I also
(wrongly) assumed that based on that info it used sqlite by default and
didn't need any database setup.

As for the rest, don't worry, I understand windows "issues". I develop and
work on a variety of platforms and am familiar with "issues" of running
Python on Windows. Your reminder is heard.

I understand understanding satchmo over one day is impossible. I just
figured in this day and age of "one-click" installs that the demo app should
only take an hour of work so I could actually see a demo store running on my
own server.

Fret not! I am not deterred and am a quick learner. Stay tuned. :-)

Thanks for all the help today folks. It's much appreciated.

Onto which platform... Having a few Ubuntu boxen already, I know that the
python install on Ubuntu and "Python from Scratch" are different in many
ways - like where files go and configuration stuff. So I think I am going to
try Debian. This will be my first venture into Debian, but I think it might
be best for building stuff from source to get it all compatible. I need to
give this some more thought.
