I'll try to definitely answer to this once and for all etc,
it's just, that I'm not entirely sure myself.
But if I understand it correctly:
Liquidsoap starts preparing the next track only about 10 seconds before
it actually starts playing it.
So even if it could tell you what the next to pick item in the playlist
would be,
certain tests (like the check if the file can actually be opened) are
not done until that time.
It gets more complicated with the switch you describe.
Let's say Liquidsoap starts playing a song at 19:58 in the evening.
During the next two minutes, it will tell you that the next item it'll
play would be yet another item from the "dirone" playlist.
At 20:00, it may or may not realize right away that this next item never
will be played, as the "Dirtwo" would become active.
So in essence, I'd say that it won't be possible in a "it'll always tell
you the right thing" kind of way.
The other question you asked, is a great one.
And I am wondering too:
If you specify a directory as a playlist, can Liquidsoap know the order
of the items in which it'll play them? And can you, as a progrmer, acces
this information somehow before they're actually played?
I'm almost sure such a function exists, but I'm still looking for it myself.
That's about as good as I know LS.
Maybe someone with more expertise could come in and add some advanced info.
