Hi!
Here are the problems:
1. Requirement to press 'Store' as mentioned above. It is so easy to
lose a long comment because you forgot to press the Store button.
2. No 'Store and Close' shortcut to close comment editor and focus on
the game again. Needs mouse.
As the comment editor is actually meant to be left open,
I remember when the auto-store behavior was removed, and i strongly
suggested that the correct behavior should be the actual.
The root problem is that many function in scid change the board position
without notifing the user, so with the auto-store, comments where
erased, duplicated, and stored (without the possibility to revert)
without warning the user.
So the auto-store requires that the comment editor must be closed after
every editing.
Usually i use scid on my beloved Asus netbook, but the screen is small
and i have no space for the pgn window.
What i wish is to show the comments over the board for 5 seconds when i
reach a commented position and than add a toolbar button that can reshow it.
Probably the best behavior than is to let the user edit the comment
clicking on that toolbar button and saving the changes when the comment
is closed (pratically impeding the user to change the position without
deciding on what to do with the comment).
This should prevent all the problem that the comment window cause when
left open.
Bye, Fulvio
