I'm thinking nobody should be given commit access until the have a
proven history of providing good patches. Nobody should be given commit
access just because they asked.

I'm thinking nobody should be promoted to leadership until they have
shown leadership. People with leadership skills should be welcomed, and
their leadership credentials accepted only by weight of argument.

At the moment there is an existing list of bugs, some have been present
for quite some time. Anybody at all can work on those, perhaps they
should be registered as developers just so their name can be pinned to
them, but with the bare minimum of rights.

All that we think we know about each other is what we say and do. You
would hardly expect me to include on my CV matters that reflect poorly
on me, and having read others' I can say they often gild the lily a
little by claiming "involvement" when involvement means they made the
tea and coffee, did the photocopying and ran messages.

Or they claimed they managed a project. Many years ago there was a very
famous Australian Government IT project called "Mandata." It was a
complete and utter flop, and managing that project would be a feather in
nobody's cap.

Any new developers for SCID will come from amongst its users. While
historically there has been little mail on this list, the developers
might find it necessary to have a separate mailing lest. If they do,
they still need to keep users in touch with proposed new features -
which should be discussed on users - fixes and new releases.
