I do think, scid needs and deserves an active maintainer, active development and an active community!
Right now, people "in charge" didn't even care enough to update the homepage. How will you get attention for building an active community, if you let the world believe, the project is dead already? Until today, i thought, you don't have the permissions to alter the homepage, but looking at the homepage today, i find a new screenshot! Don't get me wrong, i am really grateful, i can use somebode elses work, but honestly: something has gone completely wrong here in the last few years and i don't mean the code. There is also no real homepage, no wiki, no documentation, no nothing. (There is the basic tutorial from 2003, written by Shane, of course) I am a user, i said: My only "contribution" to it would have been one line to make building scid easier. Well, actually that one line never made it into the configure file [because nobody cared], so my contribution is really zero. Yes, i once offered to help elsewhere (update tutorial, start a wiki...), but i never even got a reply, so either there are just too many volunteers around, i am - in the eyes of sb - just too stupid to help, or just nobody cared (again). I really don't get it: you just let scid die (harsh words, i know), you don't care about anything except code lines (which are "hidden" and not even linked to the homepage), but the moment, somebody else wants to take over and has proven himself to put good effort in this software (and not just code, just compare the 2 homepages), there is a big uprise and promises, that there will be changes, an update, a community, heaven on earth and whatnot. Yes, i am really grateful, developers let us users use "their" software. And yes, i also think, we would really need somebody like Steve. Right now it seems, things will stay as they are and the developers are happy. Good for them, fine with me, i understand, its "their" software and they can do whatever they want. It is just so frustating, when you see, it could be so much better, if people would put their ego aside. As a user, the moment, scidvspc gets the docking mode, i will switch and i think, i will not be the only one. Scid has the "brand" (simply much more people know scid than scidvspc), scidvspc will be better( i think, with docking feature, there is no real doubt about it), it would just make so much sense to combine these projects from a user point of perspective. Just my 2c, i hope, i haven't been too personal, in case sombebody feels insulted, i apologize. Really: to me, it is not so much about code lines and maybe a don't appreciate that work as much as i should, but when it comes to the "rest" nobody IMHO wants to take care of except Steve. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everyone hates slow websites.
