I'm typing this on a Nokia 800, a handheld computer on which Scid works great.
You can buy them for not much more than $200 and use them for almost everything
a laptop can do. When I'm not looking at Alekhine's best games on it, I take it
jogging in my pocket to listen to mp3's and browse the net when I'm in reach of
wireless. I also use Skype on it regularly.

Hm, well it might be that OS X could come up as an
alternative taking developments like the iPhone into
account.

AFAIK none exists and it is unlikely that one could either.

Besides several technical limitations exist in memory and
stuff that makes handling of larger DBs inconvenient. At
least I think that it's almost impossible to just run the
normal scid even if tcl/tk exists. (PalmOS does not have
the concept of a "file" ;)

I'd agree here as sad as it is.

The closest thing to come to Palm support is to interface
wiht Palm OpenChess. It makes a pretty good game viewer,
knows handling of variants and stuff and comes with some
decent analysis engines. Unfortunately the converter from
pgn -> OC's PDBs is closed source binary only. But I'll try
again to ask Olaf to open it up. At least an "export filter
to PDB" would be possible by calling the external tool.

Another option would be Hiarcs for Palm, but as a commercial
program it might be a target to interface to it's pgn
converter but OC would have the advantage of being OS.

An outbound interface to sme external convertor is on my
personal wishlist. Especially the OC integration. I'll see
wether I understand enough of scid to do that one in the
medium run.
