I might contribute the new functions of CB10 upcoming end of
july. As much as I fount on the web today. Its probably
worth also looking at the "competitors".

    New in ChessBase 10.0:

topical and up-to-date by ChessBase;
        * split-second online search results (DSL);
        * automatic update of your local reference database (Big or
Mega) with the weekly instalments of games;
        * display of games and moves with statistics in tree style;
        * optional restriction to quality games in all searches;
        * openings references include an overview of common variations;
        * new search booster for super-fast results;
        * openings books with instantaneous display of replies;
        * fast-and-easy preparation for any specific player, with tree
display and games;
        * player dossier with improved openings references;
        * direct access to the ICCF server for correspondence chess games;
        * new engine functions, e.g. display of discarded lines;
        * new functions for the chess server, e.g. online database
accessible for kibitzers, ECO codes in the games lists, tactics
training, full Chess 960 support.
        * In addition, new look with high-resolution pieces and improved
window management.

I find point 1-3 interesting as it touches a bit the recent
discussion on how to organise a community provided database
for Scid and what CB thinks about databases as such.
Especially, they did obviously think about updates to local
DBs.

Point 5 came to me today that it would be handy indeed. Ie.
if I search for a position I'd found it practical to have
this nice "top games" available in the tree also available
for search results. (E.g. if you have a postion that's not
in any DB and you apply different search patterns to get
some ideas. Tree is only applicable if there is such a
position found.)

ICCF, ahm well. We were faster by quite some months ;) Just
to tell: I'm right now in a friendly game on ICCF, it works
without problems with 3.6.24.

Chess960 support is IMHO worth considering, indeed. Though I
do not play it myself I've the feeling that it's pretty
much established today and very popular.
