I have tried the Gemplus GPK8000 card under Linux and it works. But the 
documentation is quite unaccurate ( and the Gemplus suppport does not 
answer your questions anymore when they get to complex :-).
It seems that the Cryptoflex cards are easier to handle. Maybe you have 
a look at the sourcecode that you can get on the following two sites:
