CompTIA certs as electives for MCSA Windows 2000

CompTIA Security+

or

CompTIA Network+
and
CompTIA A+

or

CompTIA A+
and
CompTIA Server+

Although the above count towards MCSA Windows 2000, none of the above
count toward MCSE except Security+. This means that if you are going to
pursue MCSE, Then you have more tests to take. Might as well get the
Microsoft Exams out of the way to save some time.

And A+ is hardly ever a requirement for employment unless you are an
entry level help desk rep, even then, it is not "required". I would
recommend all individuals "entering into" the computer field take an A+
class. People that have 10+ years of experience really do not need it
as their experience proves the level of knowledge.

Even Network+ is for entry level network administrators (which I am
not), I am only taking it to make sure I know what I need to know from
the OSI Layers to TCP/IP and IPX/SPX. Even though an entry level net
admin knows how to connect an Ethernet cable to a switch, it does not
make him/her knowledgeable on the intricate workings of the entire
network model. Network+ class and cert will help anyone understand "how
it all works"

My .02 worth

You may want to consider taking the A+ or the Server+ if you plan on
pursuing your Microsoft Certifications. If you have Network+ and either
A+ or Server+, Microsoft recognizes these and counts these towards
different certifications which helps considerably.
