Hey Ted,
I'm not sure what you've covered in the past, but there are a number of topics I am itching to learn about concerning Linux and Linux software. It'd be great to hear what you Linux guru's think about the following:
1) Best Practices for securing a new Linux install. [snip]...
This is a great idea. We still need to come up with a topic for the July 10th meeting. Anyone want to do something on best practices for securing a new install?

Might be nice to see a little something about a BSD. I'd be willing to help put something like that together but right now I don't have the time to do it all myself. Anyone that would like to collaborate, let me know, I'm more than willing to help.
The topic for the upcoming meeting of the Omaha Linux group will be on OpenBSD. 6:30 PM on July 6th. http://olug.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=207
Maybe Ted & Ryan P. can put something together for our group? I think it'd be great to have someone explain the origins of the BSD's and the differences between BSD and Linux.

have also worked with snort on FreeBSD. I would also be willing to share my experiences with snort. But there really isn't much to it. You install it, customize the rules, and then just follow up on the alerts to prevent security breaches or improve your network.
Matthew, maybe you could show us snort at the August meeting...?
Take care all and have a nice holiday weekend. :-)
