this thread is fucking insane, elitist crap. i mean, if you guys were
talking about don caballero and how they were "too intelligent" for
mainstream success, i might agree with you cos most people don't have the
patience for 7 minute complex rock songs with strange time signatures and no
singing... but...
we're talking about sdre here! come on, kids, they are a pop band with
catchy melodies and somewhat simple song structures in 3-5 minute frames...
there's nothing really that intelligent about what they're doing, really. i
mean, it's not so completely different than some of the modern rock they'd
play on mainstream radio... or at least not so different that you could say
"that's a whole other style of music, there."
this isn't an insult on sdre cos obviously i like them or i wouldn't be here
but you really can't say that they're the be-all, end-all of rock music or
that they're doing something that only a precious few can "really enjoy" or
"tap into."
and, just to prove that "intelligent" music doesn't equal mainstream failure,
here are a few names:
king crimson, emerson lake and palmer, peter gabriel, etc.
you say "ewww, man... that's my dad's music, it's lame, etc." i say "it's
intelligent music. those guys can really play some complex stuff and still
have tons and tons of people love them."
oh, and a modern name:
radiohead
and if you think that radiohead aren't complex or difficult in some of their
stuff, you're nuts. poppy, sure, but complex.
word,
jeremy
ps. whoever compared brittney spears and sdre is retarded. it's like
comparing two entirely different things. b.s. writes probably none of her
material and is out there to sell records to 12 year old girls and make some
company very rich. sdre is out there for their own reasons, whatever they be.
