I was thinking that too (about staying clear of godaddy) but looking  
around I found a lot of the companies I trust/admire were using  
godaddy SSL certs - github and 37signals do as I recall.

But then again, a lot of people drive crappy cars but that doesn't  
mean you should too!

What really scares me about godaddy are all the horror stories from  
when people have tried to leave them!

The other thing to bear in mind is that there are usually two reasons  
why you might need a SSL certificate. One is just because you need to  
securely transmit data, the other is because you are trying to prove  
your identity to the end user. Seems to me that when trust is the big  
factor you don't want to just go with whatever is cheapest. Otherwise  
they all seem to (or claim to) have similar features if you just need  
encryption.

And apparently, or so wikipedia tells me, SSL certs were never  
designed to be used to verify ones identity. They were just a way of  
allowing secured data transfers.

That's my two cents. (Almost as much as a godaddy ssl!!)
