Sorry to be responding so late here, but I honestly thought this might have been a joke.
This meeting seems to be shaping up like a cross between a corporate sensitivity training course and a godaddy super-bowl commercial... both awkward, and both on my list of things to avoid in my free time. I attend SDRuby to learn about Ruby and network with other professionals, and I would venture to say that any women in attendance are there for that same reason. I'm sure there are lots of interesting discussions we could have about Ruby and how it relates to sexism, postmodernism, fatalism, gnosticism or even neo-Confucianism (insert your "ism" here http://www.ismbook.com). And by the same token, I would hope that any product demos will in fact impart us with true Rubyisms and not just ShamWow-isms (https://www.shamwow.com). I'm all for topics that are naturally exposed in the course of discussing some new Ruby related technology or project. But Erik's talk in particular seems deserving of it's own group that can cover these issues more in depth. In fact, why limit it to just Ruby? So I would suggest that if there are people who really want to still spend time on this topic, we should split up into groups at the beginning of the meeting.
