This was a note to a friend of mine. I ended up at RimuHosting. One massive power outage in Dallas is the only time I've had a problem. My VPS needed a second reboot and they were all over it support wise.
--- I setup a TextDrive account right after RailsConf as they were a sponsor of the event and I wanted a quality Rails hosting service. So far, the downtime (12 hours last time), service (iTunes server can't access podcasts hosted there without undocumented .htaccess file. 5 hours of my time.), deployment (support tickets are required with a multi-step Rails install) has been appalling. I've had more success and performance with Rails from GoDaddy, my cheap provider. --- P.S. That 12 hour downtime included my Subversion repository for me and other developers during crunchtime. I'm going to throw in my 2 cents with a thumbs down on Joyent. Downtime with clients calling me was just too difficult. I had my subversion repository with them. I'll post that experience later.
