I was raised on two spaces as well. But after finding out that the
"correct" modern way is one
space, I've switched. I do agree with the tabs/spaces thing when coding.

Re: [AFMUG] Dual Pol Feed Horn

2018-05-07 Thread chuck
The plate on the end is coated with a metallic coating on the side facing the N
connectors. I think it is plastic.

Need to make sure that is still on there. If not use spray glue and carefully
apply some aluminum foil to the side toward the N connectors. In any event
that wavy surface needs to be metallic. It is a weird semi cassegrain sub
reflector that re-bounces the signal from the main reflector into the
waveguide.

Between the plate and the circular waveguide tube is a short segment of
fiberglass tube. Make sure nothing is covering that fiberglass section other
than paint. The fiberglass is there to hold up the plate. It will work with
nothing there as long as the plate is spaced a certain distance from the end of
the metallic tube.

Inside the N connectors there is really nothing but waveguide probes. Just
take off the N connectors, clean them and the waveguide probe (brass knob
thingy) and put them back in.

There is very little to fail here.

Re: [AFMUG] Dual Pol Feed Horn

2018-05-07 Thread Steve Jones
feedhorn prices tends to be a little over half the cost of a new antenna on
quality antennas ive come to realize. price shock the first time we
replaced them, but it makes sense, without a feedhorn its just a useless
bowl with a hole

Re: [AFMUG] Problems with Packetflux Powerinjector

Forrest,
What is the dimensions for one of these units?
I mainly need to know depth
Thanks

If you have a base unit attached to these, you should look at the
event counters on the tripped line in the binary/boolean tab to
determine if the device is detecting an overcurrent event.    If it's
seeing an overcurrent trip, then yes, check the surge suppressors.

The other item is what has been mentioned, if you have too low of a
voltage into the PowerInjector, the ePMP's will reboot.   This is
especially true in cold weather since the units seem to draw more even
after startup.   You need around at least 26V on the input of the
power injector, if not a bit more, for an ePMP to run correctly on a
full 100m of cable. You could probably get away with a bit lower
voltage on shorter runs.

The 10/100 injector doesn't drop quite as many volts due to it being a
switch closure instead of a semiconductor junction, so you might be
right on the edge of what is acceptable.

BTW, too low of voltage will also cause 'trips', as when the voltage
drops below acceptable ranges for the ePMP, the ePMP power supply
circuit tries to pull more and more power from the CAT5 cable,
eventually causing what looks like a brief short circuit just before
it shuts down.

I have a 24vdc plant going up the tower.  In the box it feeds
these three Packetflux units.  The 4 channel POE injector has
given me 0 problems.

I've got Cambium ePMP on the PowerInjector and it has been
randomly? rebooting units for several months. Yesterday one of the
ports just decided to turn off for 20 minutes and come right
back.  We've replaced the line & radio to make sure it's the box,
but all signs point to it.

Has anyone else seen this or am I lucky in getting the only two
units with power problems on them?  AFAIK sync has been just as
reliable as the power through them.

2018-05-07 Thread Chuck McCown
Odd, we have not made those thin cards since last summer and only for a very
short lived REV.
The jacks were so tall that even with the thin cards and removing some of the
jack shield there was still a danger of touching the adjacent card. So we went
back to the older jacks.

Wonder who you got them from as that is pretty old stock. I will replace them
if you want.

Did anyone else notice the newest cards are much thinner than the new ones?
They slide in/out of the WBMFG APC case a whole lot easier. We did check a
couple to make sure we had continuity from the shield to ground, so at least
it's making connection still.

I had some of those too... I got them from Streakwave, around March, I
think (although it's possible those were ones I had sitting here for
awhile, and I got different ones then... I don't know for certain).

Yeah, I didn't have any problems, but there apparently is quite a bit of
older stock around.
