RE: straightforward approach for adding icons to paragraph tag? (no tables, macros, or multiple tags, please)
I don't need any flexibility. These are the only two tags that will ever need icons. Then, yes, my approach would be overkill for your case, I suppose. :) FWIW, I have these paragraph formats available in all my documents. Including both the auto-number method (and which also involves using side-heads since I want the auto-number text to be at the left side of the paragraph) _and_ my character format method ... I have been using both for years now. And, knowledge of the methods might benefit others (perhaps for new documents where the work to add them to existing documents is not large), since I have had a number of people ask for that sample FM file I had offered in a previous response. straightforward approach for adding icons to paragraph tag? (no tables, macros, or multiple tags, please)
Somebody wants Note and Caution icons to the left of paragraphs. For single-source motives I don't want multiple paragraph tags or a table. I want to define the Caution and Note paragraph tags so the icon appears at the left in PDF output. If it doesn't appear in FrameMaker that's fine. Hmmm ... I could do it with Autonumber Format if I could find a dingbat font with the right icons. OK, Autonumber Format works. Deja Vu Sans has the dingbat, if I set the character tag to 24 pt and Subscript, it looks about right. I used the Frame Above Pgf and Frame Below Pgf to add horizontal rules. On Mon, Jun 3, 2013 at 11:50 AM, Robert Lauriston rob...@lauriston.com wrote: Hmmm ... RE: straightforward approach for adding icons to paragraph tag? (no tables, macros, or multiple tags, please)
I use side-head paragraphs for this purpose all the time. Then I can enter whatever I want in the side-head - whether it is a large icon like you asked about, or other text (in red for example). With autonumber, you end up having to use the same autonumber text. The process is to set the page format correctly to extend into the side-head region, and allow the defined side paragraph to go into the region of the page. If you want, I can send a small FrameMaker file along that shows this ... I already have a Caution paragraph tag. My goal was to add an icon to it for PDF output by modifying the tag's format. Modifying each occurrence of the tag would be a lot more work. I don't need any flexibility. These are the only two tags that will ever need icons.
