[Gimp-user] Type Layer Refuses To Be Edited
Dear friends: I am close to completing my jewelry web site at: http://www.immortalgems.com Please click on Diamonds and Weddings. This site is based on a template that I obtained from BoxedArt (www.boxedart.com). I've now encountered a problem when attempting to edit a type layer. I'm referring to the Diamonds and Weddings page. As you can see there is a menu on the left (next to the little girl holding a gift box). This menu forms one single, uncut slice. Yet, it is a real menu, not a piece of decoration. I've tried my damnest to edit it. Right? If so, how in the world can this be done. Please see screenshots at: http://www.websher.net/temp/PS1.jpg http://www.websher.net/temp/PS2.jpg Please look closely at the first entry on the menu. You can see the marks left by the attempted highlighting of the text. What I saw looked like the cropping tool, not a highlight. Yet, the T text tool is on as well as the layer in the Layer palette. If you would like to look at the original PSD file, it is at: http://www.immortalgems.com/original/PSD/4.psd Be sure to hold the Shift key when downloading. Would appreciate your help in figuring out what to do and how to do it in Gimp 2.0. Thank you so much. Re: [Gimp-user] Type Layer Refuses To Be Edited
Dear Carol and friends: I realize that my message was sent to the Gimp list, not the Photohshop list. I was hoping to solve the problem in The Gimp since I can import the PSD file. If not, then my apologies. Thank you. Benjamin On 06/10/2004 10:21 pm, you wrote: wrong list. this is about the gimp. not at all photoshop. thanks, carol -- Benjamin Sher [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
Re: [Gimp-user] Type Layer Refuses To Be Edited
Dear Carol: the fact that photoshop breaks while doing it is interesting. I don't think that phothoshop breaks while doing this. Apparently, the author of this template locked the menu and rasterized it, making it impossible to edit it. Why he/she did this I don't know. I am trying to find out how to overcome and solve this menu problem. [Gimp-user] Text layer -- tutorial resources?
Dear friends: I am relatively new to the Gimp, though I do have some experience with Photoshop. I know how to do basic image editing and manipulation in Photoshop, and I am trying to learn how to do this in the Gimp (1.2 or 2 -- I have them both installed on my Xandros Linux system). The first thing I need to know right now is how to create or edit a type layer. I've looked in vain in Grokking-the-Gimp as well as in the Help files for Gimp for simple, step-by-step instructions on how to do this in the Gimp. I have also tried by trial and error but have failed. I'm including three screenshots to illustrate what I have tried to do. http://www.websher.net/temp/gimp-text1.jpg http://www.websher.net/temp/gimp-text2.jpg http://www.websher.net/temp/gimp-text3.jpg By the way, when I tried to save my jpg image, I was told that I should export it. But where is the export option located. I have been unable to find it. Thank you so much. [Gimp-user] Creating a text layer -- Instructions?
Dear friends: May I ask for step-by-step instructions on how to create a text layer in Gimp with the word FIRE in 85 point size against a black background (1117 width, 790 height and 266 resolution with White as background)? For some reason, I can't get past this first step as my earlier message and screenshots show: http://www.websher.net/temp/gimp-text1.jpg http://www.websher.net/temp/gimp-text2.jpg http://www.websher.net/temp/gimp-text3.jpg Once I get past this stage, I hope to be able to make use of the Gimp's Help file and try to do the rest on my own. [Gimp-user] Creating Photoshop FIRE image in Gimp?
Dear friends: The Photoshop Techniques web site features the following spectacular FIRE image created by Greg Vander Houwen: http://www.photoshoptechniques.com/main/defaulth.php Please note the Photoshop and especially the MOV tutorial available on the page plus the detailed step-by-step instructions on this page (scroll down). The big question: Can this image be created in Gimp 1.2? I use Xandros 2.0, which has not yet upgraded to Gimp 2.0. So, to create this image I would have to use Gimp 1.2. From what I can see, the Gimp seems to offer just about everything that the Photoshop instructions require, but I am not sure, especially the Liquify filter. I am still a newbie in Photoshop/Gimp but I would very much like to create this image in Gimp instead of Photoshop. What do the Gimp experts say? Can it be done? Will the result be pretty much identical (or even better)? Finally, I have been told by the Photoshop Techniques forum that the author, Greg, has permitted everyone copyright permission to use his tutorial to create this image (or any variants of it), and that any images thus created may also be used free of charge either for commercial or non-commercial purposes provided the user has recreated the image himself/herself. All my thanks in advance. Benjamin -- Benjamin Sher [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Creating Photoshop FIRE image in Gimp -- Note
Dear friends: NOTE: I just successfully installed the source tarball version of Gimp 2.0.1 so the question below applies to either Gimp 1.2 or Gimp 2.0. I now have the option of using either one for the Fire image. Thank you so much. [Gimp-user] Where are the HTML Help files?
Dear friends: [Using Xandros 2.0/Debian] I just installed the new Gimp 2.0.1 from source tarball. Everything looks fine, and there were NO errors during the three stages of install (configure, make and make install). Of course, I first downloaded and installed and upgraded all prerequisites. I saw an error message when I clicked on Help and Context Help that I was misssing gtk2html and a certain xml file in the Gimp 2.0 directory. I also could not get Help from the browser. Do I need to reinstall the Gimp or can I just add Help after installation? Thanks so much. [Gimp-user] Gimp 2.0 Help files -- Solved!
Dear friends: No problem. I downloaded the Gimp 2.0 source tarball help files from Gimp's Download page, installed them (./configure, make, make install). Checked them in Gimp 2.0. All works perfectly: both the Help file and the Help context file.
