Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS keeps wanting me to authorize it
Thank you for the information. I did contact FS about my problem. They did say that they had multiple people call in about the Webroot problem just like me and they explained it wasn't just a problem for JAWS users, but lots of people who ran Webroot. It was the update to the Webroot software and whether you removed the threat or quaranteened the threat, there were problems all around and people from Webroot are still trying to figure out a solution. For anyone having the same problem and if they use Webroot, FS told me to delete Webroot and either use Windows Defender or Vipre but Windows Defender was more highly recommended. FS told me that some people look down on Windows Defender because it is free to use but the person I spoke to had used both Windows Defender and Vipre and what Vipre didn't catch, Windows Defender did. Also, I have been using the Home version of JAWS and it would keep coming up professional version. FS said it was because of the Webroot update. I have three versions of JAWS on my PC-16, 17, and 18. I was told by FS that since I was able to use version 16 well and it stayed as the home version that Webroot was effecting version 17 and 18. I did have need of sighted help because JAWS would not work properly with version 18 so they couldn't use Tandum because of that or they would have. The sighted help was that FS put out an update because of the Webroot problem. I had my husband go to the FS website and go to downloads and then install the update and run it. We restarted the PC and all is well now. I was unable to go to JAWS 18 and go to the help menu and then go to check for updates. It did say that I had the latest update but when we went to the about section in JAWS 18, it was not the latest version FS put out so that is why my husband had to go to the FS website and download the latest version. My husband could use my PC just fine and he had to be using JAWS 18 to download the update. Even if JAWS 16 was working fine for me, I had to use version 18 so that is why I needed sighted help but it was impossible to move around with version 18 when trying to use JAWS. [JAWS-Users] JAWS keeps wanting me to authorize it
Just today after a message from Webroot came up for me to get rid of a threat, JAWS would say it needed to be authorized. Now I have gone through the steps several times and more with what I am about to write plus if I would update the authorization JAWS would not allow me to move around the screen but only remain on the Desktop each and every time and would not allow me to read the dialog screens so I had to have sighted help. No matter how many times clicking on OK and updating authorization, either it would not go through and if it did, the same authorization screen would come up. Some times it would say the authorization would fail and other times it would go through just fine. I used the internet option and my authorization code was in each time so that wasn't the problem. I turned off the computer and I also tried resetting it many times but the same messages would come up. If I uninstalled JAWS 18 and reset the computer and used a different version the same message would come up. The only thing I can do that seems to work is not turn JAWS off and not turn the computer off and not reset the computer. I can turn JAWS 18 off and then turn an earlier version on of JAWS on but I can't turn JAWS 18 off and then reset the computer to use an earlier version or even have JAWS 18 uninstalled and then reset the computer to use an earlier version. I'd like to have this resolved as soon as I can. I'd like to turn off the computer when not in use but if I do that even if JAWS 18 is uninstalled the same message will come up like I have said. I'm not sure why I can turn off version 18 and then go to an earlier version and then things will be fine. Any suggestions? I will call and get help if need be but I'd like to see if others had similar problems. [JAWS-Users] Alternative to Dropbox for sharing files
I am on an online community forum and a project is to have a print book put into audio format. Many people are reading different chapters of the book so the audio files may be different. The book is being put into audio format because there is not presently a audio version of it to be had. However, the audio files would be shared among sighted and visually impaired/blind persons alike. So far the only idea is to have a Dropbox account and share the folder but then some people may not have or want a Dropbox account. I would like to know if there is any alternative to Dropbox to share a folder/files with others so others can listen to the book and it also be accessible for those with vision loss. If I need to clarify anything please let me know and I'll do my best. Melissa For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] question regarding Verizon email service
I just spoke with a lady from Verizon since I have phone and internet from them. She did say that Verizon will no longer be handling email and that AOL will be doing so. She said it was an automatic change and I didn't need to change my email address so I could keep nightfur...@verizon.net. I asked if I could still send from this email address and also receive emails from others if they use that email address and she said yes. She asked me if I received an email from Verizon stating the changes and I said no. She said they are sending them out to everyone so I should eventually get one. She also said if I sign into the webmail that a pop-up should come up and I would need to fill out a form to make the changes. I went to my webmail and no pop-up and I searched the page for something to click on to make changes but there was nothing at all so I'm not sure what to do but wait for an email because I think there are to be steps to do in the email to make changes. I'm not sure if it is automatic why to fill out a form and also I'm receiving emails from companies I subscribe to stating if you are a Verizon email user to change your email address because if automatic why change? Oh and she said if you use Verizon internet but change your email to a gmail account and I think yahoo, she said you could lose emails. Hit the home key to go to the first icon on your desktop. 3. Hit the letter J and you should be on Jaws 16 if you have it installed. If not then you should be on Jaws 17 if you do not have any other icon starting with j. If you have Jaws 16 and Jaws 17 loaded then hit the j twice to get to Jaws 17. 4. [JAWS-Users] JAWS demo
I have XP and JAWS 12 and my computer is 32 bit and I was wondering if I can use the demo on a laptop that is running Vista and is 64 bit...I don't want to install JAWS, just run the demo...is this possible? [JAWS-Users] JAWS saying 'paragraph mark' and 'new line' in Word
I have Windows XP and JAWS 12. Just the other day I was using Microsoft Word and when I would hit the enter key, in-between the lines JAWS would say 'paragraph mark' and also 'new line' I was looking at older documents of mine and those are doing the same thing even when this problem started a couple of days ago. I haven't changed any settings that I know of and I only think Microsoft is effected. If I send an attachment to someone that is from Microsoft Word, the document isn't showing up but, before JAWS started saying 'paragraph mark' and 'new line' the attachments showed up for others. Any help please of what I can do to have JAWS stop saying this and if it does, will people start to see the documents that I send to them?
