Very interesting, thanks! I will order some of these chips but I think I
will not be able to solder them correctly. There are some videos on youtube
showing how to solder QFN packages using tons of flux and hot air...

[neonixie-l] Re: HV5523/HV5623

2017-10-28 Thread gregebert
I've used a heat gun to remove surface mount parts, but never to install
one. I removed a device that looks like the aforementioned QFN, and the
metal die-paddle on the bottom took a lot of heat to remove the part. I
toasted the PCB because there was no heat-control; the PCB delaminated and
had small bubbles but nothing actually 'burned'.

If you are going to assemble with these, use a reflow oven. I've seen
several articles online about using a modified toaster oven. I only use SMT
devices with visible pins or nubs, and only by hand-soldering.

Perhaps electrically-conductive epoxy could be used for die-paddle on the
bottom of the device, and hand-soldering for everything else ?

[neonixie-l] Re: HV5523/HV5623

2017-10-28 Thread Nick
I was surprised that the data sheet didn't give more thermal information
relating to the pad - the chip, under load, dissipates up to 3.4W in a
very small package, so the pad is important.

It'd have to be reflow for it to work - that along with appropriate board
design to carry the heat away...

[neonixie-l] Re: IV-27m VFD tube

2017-10-28 Thread Roddy Scott
Dieter Wachter has a great reference site where you can pick up a lot of
information from the original data sheets.
The one for the IV-27m is in Russian but you can translate it via Google
with a bit of time.

>From Dieter's Nixie Tube Data Archive site - IV-27.pdf

This from the Radio Museum - IV-27m

Here is a site by Stefan Weigert with similar information - IV-27m

Googling the information is the easiest way to get details, foreign
language sites often get ignored but can be a great source.

[neonixie-l] Babcock display SP-431-001

2017-10-28 Thread kosbo.com
Hi All,

On ebay I was looking for this display quite a while. I have a few PCBs
designed for Babcock display SP-431-001 and really want to find display and
add the clock to my personal clocks collection.

I have been watching this lot for a few
months https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182853730802?ul_noapp=true

and a few times contacted seller to ship it to the UK, but he never replied
to me, so I thought I would ask our NeoNixie community for help.

I am wondering, if someone from the US could help me to buy it and
resend it to me to the UK address. Of cause I'll cover all expenses.

Thanks in advance, Konstantin

[neonixie-l] Obtaining 2 digit Panaplex displays

2017-10-28 Thread Ben Pye
Hey,

I've been looking for some 2 digit Panaplex displays. As these are for
something I want to design the exact model is unimportant. I would prefer
the smaller displays, SP-332/336/732/732 but the SP-352/356/752/756 might
also work. I have looked at alternatives like the SP-151 which might work
if it comes to it but I would prefer the 2 digit displays. Ideally I'd have
one of the SP-332/732 models which has dual cathodes. If anyone has any
idea where to look that'd be great, I'm in the UK which is a bit of a pain
as these were US made. I have seen the odd one on eBay but they're asking
for 50$/ea or something crazy.

Thanks,
Ben.

I am willing to help you out with this. The seller does not say how big
the display is, so might you know how big the package may be? I will send
you a PM shortly.

If you can't find a closer supplier, I have some spare NOS SP-336s that I
can let go. I'd have to ship from the US.

If interested, contact me off list with the quantities you are looking
