Re: [scifinoir2] Dr. Who finale

2010-08-08 Thread Mike Street
The last 6 esp. did get much better but overall not the best season of DW.
I'm more interested in River Song's adventures and I think she is stealing
the show from Matt Smith. I'm slightly hoping to do a spin off show for
River Song cause she is fun. She is going to eventually kill the Dr. but I
think they will give Matt Smith another season before they need to find a
new Dr.

I LOVED the movie. We need MORE female action pics. We only have Angie and
Mellia who can pull off action picture and make money.

I'd love to see Jada in n action pic.

I agree with this here...he has some good stuff and is talented and he
needs to probably mentor new talent and have them execute his projects. I
never got into LOSt but I LIVE for every episode of "Fringe" it's just so
good.

genre shows coming down the pike. One's called "Undercovers", with Boris
Kodjoe (breathe, ladies!) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and any fans of "Fringe"

(which I now reluctantly admit to being one of) will be heartbroken to know
that JJ's executive producer on it. And your utterly valid reasons for
disliking his work are strong factors in my book as well.

[scifinoir2] Canadian Club Re-launches Historic "Hide A Case" winner gets $100,000

2010-05-17 Thread Mike Street
Hi Guys,

Yes this is a shameless plug but I've been working on this campaign
for almost a year now so I need some additional help. I'm working on a
big campaign for Canadian club whiskey and I wanted to share it with
you all. The Canadian Club Hide A Case contest starts today. The press
is all a buzz about the contest

Check out this article from MediaPost:
http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=128004

So basically it's a series of online puzzles that you can solve and
build up points. The winners get to go on an expedition to find one of
the lost cases of Canadian Club and whoever finds it wins $100,000.
It's a super cool campaign and I hope you will show me some love by
signing up to play. Visit http://Facebook.com/CanadianClub to register
and PLEASE share it with your friends.

You may or may not be familiar with the Canadian Club (Whisky) Hide a
Case promotion. The company started the promotion in 1967, hiding cases
of their whiskey all around the world. Until 1983, they hid forty cases
in total. Five cases that were never found---one in Ujiji,
Tanzania, one on the North Pole, one in Lake Placid, NY,
one in the Yukon Territory and one on Robinson Crusoe Island off of Chile.
However, Canadian Club claims only 3 have never been found.
The actual prize for finding a case was a worldwide adventure trip, $10,000
or simply the case of whiskey.

Well Canadian Club's Hide a Case contest is back and ready for the
new modern adventurers to join the hunt.

Here is more info below:

Visit Canadian Club on Facebook at http://facebook.com/CanadianClub
to sign up and start playing and solving the clues.

Canadian Club® is reactivating its most exciting campaign to date,
over the next few months we’ll be searching for 8 adventurers to join
us on the expedition of a lifetime, to hunt for one of our missing
cases. We have a $100k prize up for grabs for the final winner of the
race to the case, all 8 winners will receive $12,500 each in addition
to a place on the trip of a lifetime – and as if that wasn't enough,
during round 1 we’ll be conducting a sweepstakes randomly selecting
100 entrants to win adventurous prizes, ranging from digital watches
to hydration backpacks.

Your mission should you choose to accept it...

Round 1: (Begins May 17th 2010)

Complete 6 tasks that will test your creativity, brain power and
speed. Each task will earn you 10 points – you will only get one
attempt to attempt each game so make sure when you click the start
button you are ready to play!
Each successfully completed task will be rewarded with a clue that
will lead you closer to the mystery location.
Solve the clues and correctly name the mystery location for an
additional 20 points
Bag yourself at least 50 points to go through to round 2...

Round 2: (Begins July 9th 2010)

Upload a video explaining why you think you should go on the hunt.
Our judges will select the top 30 videos, which will be put to a
public vote – can you convince them?
The judges score and the public vote will be combined to select the
finalists (see official contest rules for more details)
The top 4 Americans and top 4 Canadians will join us on the expedition
of a lifetime to hunt for the lost case.

Round 3: The Expedition (April 7th – 14th 2011)

The chosen 8 will join us in the quest for the case in an amazing
adventure across the globe. The Americans will be competing against
the Canadians in the adventure of a lifetime, exploring exotic
locations, trekking through uninhabited and unusual lands, racing the
clock to solve the clues and find the elusive case. All 8 contestants
will receive a nice $12,500 each, and did we mention, the final winner
of the race for the case will scoop $100,000!

The adventure beckons... sign up now on Facebook at

Re: [scifinoir2] Just in: Heroes canceled!

2010-05-15 Thread Mike Street
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/05/14/heroes-canceled-by-nbc/

It seemed inevitable but the news is nonetheless shocking: NBC’s drama *
Heroes *won’t be back for a fifth season. The beleaguered drama only
averaged 6.5 million viewers this year. It last aired on Feb. 8, when it
only brought in a mere 4.4 million.

The show never managed to recapture those stellar ratings from its
critically-beloved first season, when it averaged a whopping 14.5 million.
There has been talk that NBC may air a movie that allows the producers to
wrap up the story, but nothing has been set in stone. NBC will announce its
fall lineup to advertisers Monday in New York.

All of the Doctor Who cartoons are now available on Netflix. Pretty much all
of the seasons of Doctor Who from the all of the Doctor's is now on Netflix.
So if you REALLY want to see everything you can.

i have to agree Amy Pond is very boring as a companion. She doesn't stand
out amongst all those who have traveled with him. I'm ready for the Doctor

Just finished watching this episode and it made me nod off twice. I like
river song and I think she will be his companion in season 6 or 7 and they
will explain the full connection. She know's everything about him and has a
full journal..so if she is not his wife there is some deep relation.

Anyway if you have Xbox 360 The Shara Jane Chronicles are available on BBC
America

Re: [scifinoir2] New Dr. Who Premieres Saturday on BBC America!

2010-05-01 Thread Mike Street
I liked the Queen also but I'm just not excited by any of these episodes.
Season's 1-4 where really good and now it's just a bit dull. I'm going back
to watch The 5 Doctors again and waiting for season 6.

Re: [scifinoir2] New Dr. Who Premieres Saturday on BBC America!

2010-04-17 Thread Mike Street
You could tell the Tenant really enjoyed playing the Dr. and it made it fun
to watch. Eccleston was cool but I hated the outfit he wore during his
season as the Dr. I think Tenant really made the character his own and to me
he really stands out amongst all the other Dr. he's beaten Tom Baker several
times in BBC polls for most popular Dr. And it's something about Matt Smith
that comes across as really doofy when I watch him. So he;s going to have to
grow on me cause I love David Tenant the moment he stepped on screen at the
end of season 1

don't really like the new Dr. at all. He's a bit boring. I liked Eccleston

The diaspora has space for positive and negative movies. I think Precious is
great film and everyone did a great job regardless of the subject matter.
Cause a Tyler Perry pic is all we seen to get these days and we are not
talking about any real topics. So I hope Precious allows other blk directors
a foot in the door. Cause it seems we have all disappeared.

I agree..they just giving out awards so they can get ratings. The Oscars
super BORING like watching paint dry. I think Precious would be winning all
the awards if Avatar wasn't in the mix. I'd be shocked if Avatar lost at
this point. Grossing some 2bn worldwise does that make Avatar to big to
fail?

[scifinoir2] Jill Scott is Storm

TRIPLE THREAT RELEASES LIFETIME MOVIE ‘SINS OF THE MOTHER’ FEB 7

“JILL SCOTT PREPS TWO NEW FILMS, MARVEL CARTOON SERIES, INTIMATE
APPAREL BRA, ALBUM RELEASE AND 2010 LILITH FAIR TOUR”

TRIPLE THREAT RELEASES LIFETIME MOVIE ‘SINS OF THE MOTHER’ FEBRUARY 7.

REVEALS NEW ALBUM ‘THE LIGHT OF THE SUN’ SPRING/SUMMER 2010

SUPPORTS LILITH FAIR TOUR WITH SARAH MCLACHLAN, SHERYL CROW AND OTHERS

(New York, NY—January 8, 2009)- Grammy Award winning singer/actress
Jill Scott preps two movies, a cartoon series, a new bra for her
Ashley Stewart intimate apparel line, new album The Light Of The Sun
as well as main stage inclusion in the upcoming Lilith Fair tour.
Scott was recently seen as lead role in HBO’s critically acclaimed The
No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, directed by the late Oscar winning
director Anthony Minghella. Jill and the show have garnered rave
reviews and nominations from the Golden Globes, IPA Satellite Awards
to the American Film Institute (AFI). Scott most recently nominated
for NAACP Image Awards Outstanding Actress alongside 2 others the
series earned including Outstanding Drama Series and Supporting
Actress in Drama Series. This gears the triple threat artist for a
huge 2010 year.

Scott’s next film project, Lifetime’s Sins Of The Mother which bows
February 7th, revolves around a grad student who returns home to face
her abusive, alcoholic mother –played by Scott—only to discover that
her mom is sober and has a 3-year- old daughter and new life.
Directed by Paul Kaufman and Executive produced by Damon Lee, the
telepic is based on the novel Orange, Mint & Honey and adapted for
television by Elizabeth Hunter.

Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too? releases April 2nd and
returns Scott to the widely successful movie alongside Janet Jackson,
Michael Jai White & Tyler Perry. Having their annual one-week reunion,
four close couples gather together for a group vacation at the Bahamas
to share news about their lives and relationships. Their  intimate
week in paradise is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Sheila’s
(Scott) ex-husband, Mike, who looks forward to breaking up her
marriage with Troy. While Sheila deals with her problem, the others
realize they too are not immune to the challenges of commitment and
fidelity.

Marvel Animation and BET Networks have teamed up to create the epic
animated mini-series Black Panther out mid 2010. Scott voices X-men
Heroine Storm alongside Golden Globe nominated actor Djimon Hounsou
(Blood Diamond), Kerry Washington (Last King of Scotland) & Golden
Globe winning actress Alfre Woodard (American Violet).

Ashley Stewart’s Butterfly Bra inspired by Jill Scott was widely
successful garnering great coverage in Women’s Wear Daily, Instyle
Magazine and US Weekly. The exclusive joint venture between Scott’s
firm J Heather Inc. & Ashley Stewart stores saw the bra line expand
nationally to over 220 stores. Founded from Scott’s need for support,
comfort & style, a new innovative plunge style bra has been developed,
and will be released nationally in the 2nd Quarter of 2010.

Following up to 2007’s Grammy nominated Gold certified album The Real
Thing, Jill is currently in the studio recording her 5th album titled
The Light Of The Sun. The album embarks Jill on a flurry of emotional
poetry as both her career and personal life have skyrocketed with
success in Hollywood and birth of first child. The album is expected
to be a Spring/Summer 2010 release, just in time for Scott’s return to
the stage.

Returning to her first love, live performance,  Scott will be a
featured performer alongside her colleagues  Sarah McLachlan, Mary
J.Blige, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, Colbie Caillat at the 2010 Lilith
Fair Tour;  a celebration of diverse female voices across all genres.
Dates are still being confirmed and are updated on www.lilithfair.com.

Yeah I'm not sure of that reference either...maybe it's just morgan freeman
but I think they treat his character well in the dark knight cause batman
wouldn't be batman with out the help and technology created by a blk man.
But then you could reference that to being just like the woman giving away
her secret pancake mix in imitation of life.

I think the 3D made the movie otherwise it would have totally hated it.
Again another sci-fi movie whee blk people either don't exist or "assumed"
to be the native people cause they have a difference skin color. The only
blk people to be scene where very much in the background with no speaking
parts.

Re: [scifinoir2] Will there be a "New Moon" aimed at Black tween girls?

2009-11-20 Thread Mike Street
There are a handful of Black vampire stories but I don't see Hollywood
trying to fast track them for greenlight productions. Laurent obviously dies
in New Moon cause they have showed that like 10 times in the trailer.
I'm not sure if there are any other Black vampires in Twilight. Blade was
the only successful Blk vampire series.

The Princess and the Frog is already making Disney a TON of money and hasn't
been released. It's #1 in toy sales and will probably be the #1 toy for the
holiday season.

"Kill Bill, Vol. 2" ended with The Bride (Uma Thurman) reunited with her
baby and all of her targets killed. Most speculate that "Copperhead's"

that she's all grown up and no doubt has revenge of her own on her mind."

yeah if they don't show it to the press then it means its a total bomb

Re: [scifinoir2] Ryan Reynolds casts as Green Lanthern

2009-07-11 Thread Mike Street
I just don't see Deadpool as a full on movie. It sounds like something that
will truly never see the light of day. THere are a ton of other Marvel
characters they should focus the companies money on and trying to make
Deadpool happen is a total waste. Go with the core characters and not cause
his 10 minutes of screen time tested well. Hollywood is a total joke these
days.

I'll see Harry Potter cause I'm a big fan and have never been
disappointed by any of the movies.

I'm not sure about GI. Joe. The Barroness has no accent so I'm not
sure about that movie as a whole.

True but those images are all controlled by white men who are making
fun at themselves from all the movies that you named. Our community

If we find it unacceptable and we should not support them financially

I don't think its hate at all. It is the systematic characterization
of African-American culture in mainstream media. If it was a Jewish
reference that their community found derogatory no one would question
their rights to protest. And also the reason that if you go over seas
most people think we are all rappers, hoes, and sell drugs.

I so totally agree. Rose is cute but she is not all that.

Ok I'm going to go out on a limb here but if they REALLY wanted to get
this picture doneBeyonce would be Barbarella. Yes she can't
act...but Barbarella is not that big of a stretch and doesn't require
you to know Shakespeare. All she would need is outfits and hair and a
few looks at the camera and boom $30 mil opening weekend if not more.

[scifinoir2] X-Men Orgins: Deadpool

Fresh off the muscular performance of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at
the boxoffice, Fox has thrown into development a spinoff featuring
Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan
Reynolds.

Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is
simply being called "Deadpool." Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel
Studios would act as producers.

Deadpool is known as "the merc with a mouth," a character that under
Reynolds lived up to his billing in "Wolverine" until the end, when
the movie deviated from the comic book persona, imbuing him with
several superpowers and sewing his mouth shut.

It is understood that Reynolds would regain the ability to mouth off,
with the movie going back to the roots of the character known for his
slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall. The character
also was disfigured in "Wolverine," though it's unclear at this time
how much the studio would want to mess with Reynolds' handsome mug.

The project is out to writers.

Fox considered a "Deadpool" spinoff early in "Wolverine's" development
process, which is why it cast Reynolds. The actor was brought back in
the month before the movie's release to shoot one of two "Easter egg"
scenes that appeared after the end credits. The scene showed Deadpool
alive, though when last audiences saw him, he appeared to be dead.

UTA-repped Reynolds next stars opposite Sandra Bullock in Disney's
romantic comedy "The Proposal."

will include all four original Ghostbusters, Aykroyd, Harold Ramis,
Billy Murray, Ernie Hudson and of course Aykroyd, though they may not
be the central characters of the movie. Ghostbusters 3 will feature a
script by The Office co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene

since they are showing repeats it's allowed Dollhouse to take over the
