[freenet-support] Windows Installation problem

2006-09-23 Thread Mr. Flibble
Hi everyone,
Just tried to install v0.7 on windows 2000, and am having problems.
I already have freenet 0.5 installed, which I want to keep running, but
while I was installing 0.7 (to a different directory), it was stopped.

Anyway, I left the installer to install everything listed, and it got to the
part where it has to download bits, and it complained with something like
plugin already installed or something similar, with only a quit button
active. (I'm afraid I didn't write it down at the time as I thought it was
just a warning).
Why would this happen on a vanilla install?

Also, how do I uninstall it properly and start again?

From the parent directory, java -jar Freenet7\Uninstaller\uninstaller.jar
brought up an uninstall dialog, but pressing the uninstall button didn't
seem to do anything, yet, rerunning the installer warns me about installing
another instance of freenet.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

MrFlibble

RE: [freenet-support] Freenet (0.5, Build 5106) has trouble with time transitions

2006-10-29 Thread Mr. Flibble
It happened before, and it happened again tonight. I got woken up by
alarms indicating 100 % CPU usage, and found out it was being caused
by Freenet, so I restarted it.
Obviously it has problems when summer/winter time transitions occur.
It's only twice a year, but thought I should mention it.

Ah! That would explain why mine crashed too last night!

[freenet-support] Temporary files error

2006-10-29 Thread Mr. Flibble
Just got the following message when trying to load a freesite:

Temporary files error
Error: Internal temp files error, maybe disk full or permissions problem?:
null

My node has been running for several hours, and I have 515mb free on one
drive, and 300gb free on another, so this shouldn't be the issue.
None of the permissions will have changed as I have been browsing other
freesites this morning without any problem and without changing anything on
my freenet machine.

Any ideas?
Thanks,

RE: [freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 995 - auto update not working

2006-11-14 Thread Mr. Flibble
Freenet 0.7 build 996 is now available. Please upgrade.

My node doesn't seem to want to update itself.
For the last 2 days, I've had the following displayed on my fproxy
homepage:

It seems that your node isn't running the latest version of the software.
Your node is currently fetching the update over Freenet. Once this is
complete, you will be prompted to install the new version. Please be
patient, this could take up to half an hour.

At the moment, 6 of my connected peers are running 996, together with 2
backed off and 1 disconnetd node.
Any idea why it's not downloaded it?
It has updated itself from build 990 onwards within an hour or so without
problems.

RE: [freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 995 - auto update not working

2006-11-17 Thread Mr. Flibble
Updating manually worked although had to try twice cos it hadn't shut the
service down before it tried overwriting freenet.jar and truncated it to 0
bytes it the first time I ran it.
Had to stop the service manually and then run update.cmd before it would
work.

Also, since 994 (I think), queing download via the web interface doesn't
seem to keep the filenames associated with the CHK keys, where it worked
perfectly before.
Is this connected to the the problems with chk/filename begin... thread?
Thanks,

MrFlibble

Update manually to 998. That should fix the problem.

Re: [freenet-support] Houston, We have a problem

2007-02-01 Thread Mr. Flibble
So this is just an all peers are backed off frequently after
 the load
 limiting changes report?

I have no idea :(

Or is there a definite problem with nodes not connecting or
 even being
 backed off?

The usual nodes seem to be reconnecting.
In the last couple of days, I'm up to 3-4 nodes connected (with 4-8 backed
off) which seems better. I haven't changed anything here, so maybe someone
else could have given their nodes more bandwidth?

My node's been looking weird since this update:

The menu on the main fproxy page just shows

And nothing else.
Also, if I click on the Queue menu, I see that I have an outstanding alert:

Minor: 1 | Total: 1 | See them on the Freenet FProxy Homepage., yet this

2007-03-31 Thread Mr. Flibble
Yes, I am accessing it remotely, and yes, it would have been helpful to
have that listed in the build email!
Thanks,

MrFlibble

This means that you access your node remotely, now you have
to enable the total access if
you want to be able to do everything remotely, otherwise you
 are protected from somebody
messing up your node from the different ip.

This change really should have been announced specifically.

Re: [freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 1022

2007-03-31 Thread Mr. Flibble
To make it clearer, a comment from jflesch:

 - Stop your node
 - Edit freenet.ini (in your node directory)
   - Set 'fproxy.allowedHostsFullAccess' to the same value as
 'fproxy.allowedHosts'
   - Do the same for 'fcp.allowedHostsFullAccess'
 - Restart your node

Thanks for the info. That new option will be quite handy actually.
Shame it won't be back-ported to 0.5 :(

[freenet-support] Error after attempting auto update to build 1024

2007-03-31 Thread Mr. Flibble
After attempting to do an update, which seemed to take a very long time
(about an hour, which is a lot longer than It's taken before), I've tried to
stop my node (as I couldn't get to the web interface).

I tried stopping the windows service (which normally takes a while), but
the java process is still running, pegging the cpu somewhat, and taskman
refuses to kill the task...

The last few lines of the log read as follows:

Mar 31, 2007 21:44:45:850 (freenet.node.PeerManager,
WrapperListener_start_runner, NORMAL): Read 15 peers from .\peers-
Mar 31, 2007 21:44:57:428 (freenet.node.Node, WrapperListener_start_runner,

NORMAL): Initializing CHK Datacache
Mar 31, 2007 21:52:10:584 (freenet.store.BerkeleyDBFreenetStore,
WrapperListener_start_runner, ERROR): Reconstructing block numbers index...

Before I reboot (which I'd prefer not to do as my freenet 0.5 node is also
on this machine too and takes ages to start up), is this error serious, or
should I leave it to do it's reconstruction ?

If you mean v 0.7, there seems to be SSL Support built in.
If you look at the web config screen, there are various SSL sections, but I

I'm guessing I have to generate the certs etc myself, but I haven't had

If you mean 0.5, then you could set up an SSL version of apache on your

Re: [freenet-support] Please somebody help. Frost won't start

Sometimes Frost has taken a while to start up for me too, but I don't know
why.
This mainly happens if I haven't used it for a few months.
One thing to check is if there is a dialog box warning you about old
versions of keys (I wondered why Frost wasn't starting, and this was buried
behind loads of other windows!), but if this is a new install, then this
shouldn't be the problem.

Hiya,
Thanks for the reply.

This means that the datastore was corrupted and is being
 reconstructed. This
is normal, but if it happens very often there may be a problem.

Ah, weird. Not sure what could have caused the corruption, my node's been
up for a few days, without me restarting the service myself.
Anyway, a couple of hours later and it seems to have fixed itself.
Thanks!

On the windows version the wizard will sort out things like that, and

Is there a short how-to for Freenet 0.7 installation for those who are
switching from 0.5? Especially I'm looking for info about:
-how to change the default ports (which are already taken by other
services on my server, and are not to be used at all), for local
access as well as the one visible on the outside,
-where to put the hostname.dyndns.xyz info so that you can be reached
if you have a dynamic IP?

[freenet-support] Not connecting to any openet peers

2009-02-02 Thread Mr. Flibble
Hi everyone.
During the past few updates, I don't seen to be getting any opennet peers
to attach to me.
I have no firewall, not NATed, and it worked fine until the late 119x
builds.
Any ideas what I can do to get it to work?
I don't have any darknet peers anymore (they disappeared before the trouble
started).
I am using the 1204 build from a few days ago:

* Freenet 0.7 Build #1204 r25209
* Freenet-ext Build #26 r23771

On the Internet connection screen, I have quite a few ips listed as no
reply or remote.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,

MrFlibble

[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 1163

2008-09-16 Thread Mr. Flibble
Just had to update manually.
This seems to happen now and again, where sometimes it will update
automatically after I click on the "Update" request, other times it says
it's downloaded it and will restart, and it just restarts with the same
old version.
Maybe this is due to it not downloading properly - originally I had to
restart my node as it was displaying the "downloading new version" alert
for more than a day, and seemed to be getting nowhere.

Cheers,

MrFlibble

[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 995 - auto update not working

2006-11-14 Thread Mr. Flibble
> Freenet 0.7 build 996 is now available. Please upgrade.

My node doesn't seem to want to update itself.
For the last 2 days, I've had the following displayed on my fproxy
homepage:

"It seems that your node isn't running the latest version of the software.
Your node is currently fetching the update over Freenet. Once this is
complete, you will be prompted to install the new version. Please be
patient, this could take up to half an hour."

At the moment, 6 of my connected peers are running 996, together with 2
backed off and 1 disconnetd node.
Any idea why it's not downloaded it?
It has updated itself from build 990 onwards within an hour or so without
problems.

[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 995 - auto update not working

2006-11-18 Thread Mr.

Is this connected to the "the problems with chk/filename begin..." thread?
Thanks,

MrFlibble

[freenet-support] Temporary files error

2006-10-29 Thread Mr. Flibble
Just got the following message when trying to load a freesite:

Temporary files error
Error: Internal temp files error, maybe disk full or permissions problem?:
null

My node has been running for several hours, and I have 515mb free on one
drive, and 300gb free on another, so this shouldn't be the issue.
None of the permissions will have changed as I have been browsing other
freesites this morning without any problem and without changing anything on
my freenet machine.

Any ideas?

My node's been looking weird since this update:

And nothing else.
Also, if I click on the Queue menu, I see that I have an outstanding alert:

isn't showing up, so I've no idea what it is!

[freenet-support] Error after attempting auto update to build 1024

2007-04-01 Thread Mr. Flibble
After attempting to do an update, which seemed to take a very long time
(about an hour, which is a lot longer than It's taken before), I've tried to
stop my node (as I couldn't get to the web interface).

I tried stopping the windows service (which normally takes a while), but
the java process is still running, pegging the cpu somewhat, and taskman
refuses to kill the task...

The last few lines of the log read as follows:

Mar 31, 2007 21:44:45:850 (freenet.node.PeerManager,
WrapperListener_start_runner, NORMAL): Read 15 peers from .\peers-
Mar 31, 2007 21:44:57:428 (freenet.node.Node, WrapperListener_start_runner,

Mar 31, 2007 21:52:10:584 (freenet.store.BerkeleyDBFreenetStore,
WrapperListener_start_runner, ERROR): Reconstructing block numbers index...

Before I reboot (which I'd prefer not to do as my freenet 0.5 node is also
on this machine too and takes ages to start up), is this error serious, or
should I leave it to do it's "reconstruction" ?

[freenet-support] Windows Installation problem

2006-09-23 Thread Mr. Flibble
Hi everyone,
Just tried to install v0.7 on windows 2000, and am having problems.
I already have freenet 0.5 installed, which I want to keep running, but
while I was installing 0.7 (to a different directory), it was stopped.

Anyway, I left the installer to install everything listed, and it got to the
part where it has to download bits, and it complained with something like
"plugin already installed" or something similar, with only a quit button
active. (I'm afraid I didn't write it down at the time as I thought it was
just a warning).
Why would this happen on a vanilla install?

Also, how do I uninstall it properly and start again?

>From the parent directory, "java -jar Freenet7\Uninstaller\uninstaller.jar"
brought up an uninstall dialog, but pressing the uninstall button didn't
seem to do anything, yet, rerunning the installer warns me about installing
another instance of freenet.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

MrFlibble

Even though it doesn't do anything when you click it in this mode, it would

[freenet-support] Temp files problem on #1026

2007-04-11 Thread Mr. Flibble
For the last few weeks, I seem to be having a lot of temp files created,
even though freenet seems to be running fine.

At the moment I've got 31,935 files in my freenet temp directory, all of
which have been created in the last two days and my node has been up for 1
day and 4 hours.
Sizes range from 1k to 4mb, and they are taking up 1,375mb!
I'm running Fuqid, but only 5 files are being downloaded at the moment, and
there's not much other activity going on as far as I know.

Any ideas on why I'm getting so many?

[freenet-support] [freenet-dev] Diffie-Hellman security fix forfreenet 0.5

2007-12-02 Thread Mr. Flibble
Hi everyone!
Where can I get this patch (well, the new freenet.jar) for 0.5 then?
http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/ doesn't seem to do a lot nowadays
Thanks,

MrFlibble

[freenet-support] Houston, We have a problem

I have no idea :(

The usual nodes seem to be reconnecting.
In the last couple of days, I'm up to 3-4 nodes connected (with 4-8 backed
off) which seems better. I haven't changed anything here, so maybe someone
else could have given their nodes more bandwidth?

[freenet-support] Please somebody help. Frost won't start

2008-06-18 Thread Mr. Flibble

* Freenet 0.7 Build #1204 r25209
* Freenet-ext Build #26 r23771

On the Internet connection screen, I have quite a few ips listed as "no
reply" or "remote".

Any suggestions?
Thanks,

MrFlibble

[freenet-support] Odd freenet.ini line

2008-02-23 Thread Mr. Flibble
I have a freenet.ini file which has the following line in it:
node.clientThrottleFile=.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\
.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\client-throttle.dat

Is there any reason for so many ".\"s as it looks weird?
Thanks,

MrFlibble

[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 build 1073

2007-11-18 Thread Mr. Flibble
Hi everyone,
Have I missed an announcement of 1073?
I haven't seen one since 1070, and I've checked my spam filters (which
mailing list messages sometimes get stuck in).
Thanks,

MrFlibble
