2008-10-22 Thread pescio
I've got this too. Seldomly the screensaver hangs when I want to login back.
It happens with more frequence if I leave an image moving, i.e. not a balck
screen.

I'm on an hardy, hp compaq d330 DT.

kernel: 2.6.24-21-generic #1 SMP

[Bug 213388] Re: Right click menu opens centered

2008-10-22 Thread 4711
Let me guess:
"Nightly Tester Tools" were used to force compatibility of "Mouse Gestures

This bug was reported BEFORE MozGest (1.9) was available as a working package.
So I think this bug is invalid.

I've the same problem too -> still up to now (with 8.10 beta). I couldn't fix

be in the next upstream stable kernel release (2.6.27.3 I guess), so

[Bug 268036] Re: Solid white screen that fades when using INTEL video driver on X4500MHD

2008-10-22 Thread Dr. Robert Marmorstein
I am seeing this same behavior with a BRAND NEW Dell Studio 15 laptop
with Ubuntu preinstalled. Similar chipset (Intel GM965 aka X3100), same
xf86-video-intel driver. I tried installing ArchLinux on the laptop and
had the same problem when using the "intel" driver in xorg.conf. "vesa"
works fine (except at low resolution of course).

The behavior is very odd. The screen goes completely white. Then,
after a few seconds, dark lines start fading in. The lines are all
different colors. It would be pretty if it were a screensaver. But it
basically makes the system useless. Very frustrating.

If anyone has any hints/tips/advice I would greatly appreciate it. I
feel out of my depth trying to debug the intel driver

[Bug 287962] [NEW] There are no Python 2.6 packages for Ubuntu

2008-10-22 Thread Russel Winder
Public bug reported:

Searching package.ubuntu.com indicates that there are no packages of
Python 2.6 associated with Ubuntu. There are none in Debian either.

Python 2.6 has some very significant changes relating to parallelism and
working on multicore and cluster machines, so it is important that Hardy
and Intrepid users be able to use Python 2.6 even though Python 2.5.2 is
the stnadard Python distributed.

[Bug 287963] [NEW] Internet radio do not play after audio files, and viceversa

2008-10-22 Thread ltheodorv
Public bug reported:

I am running ubuntu 8.04.1 and my problem is: I can not play audio files
after opening an internet radio, and I can not open any internet radio
after playing an audio file. I can play along audio files and youtube
files, though, but not youtube and internet radios (the same problems as
with audio files). My browser of preference is Mozilla Firefox, and the
programs in which I have seen the problem are: Audacious, Amarok,
Banshee, Movie player, MPlayer, Muine Music Player, Rhythmbox.

My workaround was: listed the pocesses running ("ps -e" command), than
killed the processes with the mplayer listed in the CMD column (there
were two or three occurences), with the command: "sudo kill
[]" (of course, I replaced with the real process
identifiers listed).

I will say that is a problem in one of the programs involving audio
playback, as it seems that the processes are not freed up after playing
an audio file or stream.

[Bug 287951] [NEW] 8.10 dvd playback sticks (pauses, stutters) every 10 seconds

2008-10-22 Thread joshual
Public bug reported:

This only happens in KDE4 intrepid ibex. I have tried using a number of
different applications, including VLC, Dragon, Mplayer. I installed
fluxbox and attempted dvd playback there, and there is no sticking at
all using any of the above applications. Thus I believe this is solely a
KDE4 problem.

I am running Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex on a Dell Inspiron 1525N Laptop.
I've attached my dmesg.

[Bug 284541] Re: Update manager does not report the last update correctly

2008-10-22 Thread Roger Binns
Ah that explains it. Since upgrading to Intrepid a few days ago, the
last updated time shown by update manager has been nonsensical. This
morning it said I last updated 4 days ago and right now it says the last
update was 6 days ago. I have updated and rebooted several times over
the last few days to no avail.

One repository with issues for me is VirtualBox - the PUEL version with
repositories as detailed at
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads They don't have intrepid
yet but I have left that in in my sources.list.d so it will
automatically be picked up.

The ddebs for intrepid-{updates,proposed,security} also give errors. It
would be nice if instead those repos existed with zero length lists of
packages.

In any event update manager shouldn't use the last update time of
repositories that are 404 not found as the time of the last update to
display!

[Bug 99508] Re: Window titlebar displayed not right with compiz enabled

2008-10-22 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thanks to everyone who has commented on what card they are using.
Reports so far are on Geforce 6 and 7 cards only. Can anyone not
reproduce the bug on these cards (with -177 or other driver), or can
anyone reproduce the bug on a card other than these? If so, please
mention the card you have and the driver you are using.

A quick recap since this bug is giant and hard to follow:
Confirmed affected: 6600GT, 7300, GO 7400, GO 7600, 7600GT, 7600GS
Not-affected: 8800, AMD/ATI and Intel
Testing appreciated for: Geforce 6, 8 and 9 with -177, or any card with other
drivers (-173, -96, etc)

Thanks again for your help. Triaging for n-g-d-177 since all reports
indicate this is where the real bug lies, and there is a lot of relevant
info for a dev to look at.

[Bug 236500] Re: Using gnome-art on hardy/intrepid 64-bit I can't see preview at the right side of the window..

2008-10-22 Thread Cedric Zoppolo
Following output log may be the reason for this bug. After running gnome-art
from terminal and ask for example for: art > Other Themes > Spash Screen
I get this type of errors for all the downloaded files:

PixbufError with File:
/home/cedric/.gnome2/gnome-art/thumbnails/Splash-Urban-Th.png - deleted
PixbufError with File:
/home/cedric/.gnome2/gnome-art/thumbnails/Splash-FlyAwayGnome-Th.png - deleted

I think this behaviour may also lead to download all files again next
time you request for the same category as no thumbnail is actually
saved. I see these errors in every category I have selected. Then no
previews are available (similar to the screenshot uploaded by Fabio).

I tested preview button works with splash screens. However this is not
the case for Application Themes for example, where I get following error
after trying preview button:

The image “file:///home/cedric/.gnome2/gnome-art/tmp/GTK2-SmoothGNOME-
Shot.png” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

For the records I'm running ubuntu Hardy 64-bit.

[Bug 287948] [NEW] gawk-doc: example doesn't match actual output

2008-10-22 Thread Peter Cordes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gawk-doc

in (gawk.info.gz)Records, this example is given:
$ echo | awk 'BEGIN { RS = "a" } ; { print NF }'
1

 But that's wrong: real results
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo | gawk 'BEGIN { RS = "a" } ; { print NF }'
0
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo | gawk --posix 'BEGIN { RS = "a" } ; { print NF }'
1

gawk 1:3.1.6.dfsg-0ubuntu1 on AMD64 pre-Intrepid.

I'm not sure what the best thing for the docs to say would be. I assume it's a
bug in the docs, not in awk, but I'm not sure.

I'm still trying to figure out what the most concise way to read lines
from stdin, and feed them in batches of e.g. 10 lines to the stdin of
separate invocations of another command. Probably perl, since awk's RS
mechanism doesn't seem to be flexible enough. (I can do it in a perl
one-liner, but I was trying to shorten it, and awk's print | command
looks useful.)

i'm running hardy, because it is a long term release. so i cannot
easily upgrade this host to intrepid, because i would also need to get
it somehow back to hardy.

let me know if there are any means to do tests without distribution

[Bug 236028] Re: Min Nan Chinese not available in Language Support

2008-10-22 Thread Arne Goetje
I have a new package in my ppa.

Please go to System -> Administration -> Software Sources and in the
Third-Party Software add the following link:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/arnegoetje/ubuntu intrepid main

Then please update the locales package and help testing:

sudo locale-gen [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED] locale -ck LC_ADDRESS

do the last step for every LC_* environment variable (except LC_ALL).

Please report any issues back here, so that I can fix them.

For reference, the RCF, which describes the locale data is here:

[Bug 287906] [NEW] ecryptfs-setup-private should validate that the login password is correct

2008-10-22 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

ecryptfs-setup-private should validate that the login password is
correct.

Bug #259631 sort of exposed this bug. Somewhere buried in there, we
have a user who enters the wrong login password. If they enter the same
wrong password twice, ecryptfs-setup-private proceeds to use it.

This can be fixed with unix_chkpwd.

[Bug 287939] [NEW] Ubuntu crash just after boot

2008-10-22 Thread Stefano145
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

I just tried to upgrade from ubuntu 8.04 to ubuntu intrepid beta (in a
non-production environment) and after reboot, about after 10-15 seconds, ubuntu
crashed.
My computer is a 2.4GZ P-IV, 1.5GB RAM and always runned good with other ubuntu
versions.
If i see under the shell, before the crash, it appears a lot of lines, none of
them seems an error, maybe it's an assembler error code.
Anyway, after the boot, my wireless keyboard's receiver began to switch from
green to black a lot of times. Since then no input could be given.
I already tried to upgrade to te latest packages (throught ubuntu 6.04, in
chroot environment) but it seems that the bug hasn't been solved yet.

2008-10-22 Thread Andrew
On a (potentially) related note: Is it likely that whatever is causing
this is also responsible for my inability to mount any USB drives?
They're listed in Nautilus, but Mount Volume does nothing - no mounting,

[Bug 111061] Re: Wine use Windows colors instead of Ubuntu colors

2008-10-22 Thread Endolith
> It would be possible to code around each theme engine, at least if we have a
> list of them, but that would require more patience than I have. Perhaps the
> Right Way to Do It (tm) would be to standardize the color settings for GTK.

Yeah. I talked to Havoc Pennington today (http://ometer.com/gtk-
colors.html), and he said it's basically impossible to do what I'm
trying to do, since every GTK engine has its own painting code, and can
use the colors however it wants. Most seem to use the colors in the
same way, so the script gives decent results, but not for all cases. If
we needed to, we could probably make it work by writing separate
mappings for each engine, though I don't really want to do it. :) It
could at least be considered a Clearlooks scraper, as is. I posted
screenshots of some of the results:

http://www.endolith.com/wordpress/2008/08/03/wine-colors/#toc-
screenshots

So this will be actual themes (msstyle files), and not just colors?
That sounds like a great halfway solution until real theming works
(although requiring more manual labor). Also it wouldn't handle user-
customized colors, so we might merge these two efforts somehow.

> Endolith, can you use that script of yours to scrape the gnome settings from

All it does is copy the colors from actual GTK elements. It won't copy
other aspects of the GTK theme that would be useful in an msstyle file.

Note that we should make the fonts the same, too, and I'm not sure how
to set those except for the ones included in the winecfg utility Desktop
Integration tab.

All of the wine colors are already settable in winecfg. Do you mean
something else?

[Bug 162212] Re: gtk apps don't behave properly after xrandr dual-screen modifications

2008-10-22 Thread rubberglove
I think spoke too soon. Now that I've been running intrepid for a while,
I still see the broken behaviour, especially with firefox and
thunderbird.

In firefox, *some* dropdown menus will appear shifted from their correct
location (testing it as I type this, the file/edit/tools/etc menus are
correctly placed, as are the dropdowns for the addressbar and searchbar.
However, dropdown menus from the 'status' area at the bottom of the
window are incorrectly placed -- right-clicking on the noscript icon,
for example).

thunderbird becomes mostly unusable for me, and must be relaunched after
changing the screen configuration. As with firefox, some dropdowns work
properly (file/edit/view/etc menus), but clicking on folders or messages
has no effect (nor does tying to scroll in either of those two panes).

[Bug 287931] [NEW] specific content in totem bbc plugin not updated

2008-10-22 Thread Ron B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libtotem-plparser-dbg

In the totem BBC Plugin a specific content item "news (6)" gets updated fresh
news item titles visable - but on double-clicking to see this content the same
outdated/unchanged video-clip (entrance to channel
tunnel/railway-station/helicopter) is played no matter what story one has
selected. I have, about 7 days ago sent feedback to the bbc telling them about
this - assuming it was just a server-side content- problem but nothing has
changed. So now I am thinking this is perhaps a problem with the viewer
(parsing?)
Running fully updated Ubuntu 8.1 - beta with GNOME

N.B. I am not sure if the selected package is in fact the one concerned (I am a
relative newbie and don't know how to determine this - but the system here has
basically demanded that I select one to be able to send the bug report.)
In plain terms it is a problem with totem bbc plugin.

[Bug 287925] Re: HIS ATI Radeon HD4650 only supports VESA (no 3D acceleration or high resolution support)

2008-10-22 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
I Just tried installing the ATI 8.10 drivers again. This time it worked.
Wierd. Athough ATI does not claim to support the 46xx cards on their
driver page, I remember seeing a webpage claiming that support was added
in 8.9. Hardy's xserver-xorg-video-ati is 6.8.0-1. Presumably Intrepid
will have 8.9 or later and this problem will fix itself. I am guessing
this problem is fix released, although I have not tried Intrepid.

[Bug 287927] [NEW] Intrepid Ibex RC: Installing without running the live session first gives no panel, and no way to restore windows that have lost focus, without alt+tab.

This is particularly obvious in ubiquity, when you hit "advanced" (to
