[Bug 1382106] Re: p7zip-full fails to deal correctly with filename encodings
I've tried Unxed's p7zip patch on Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04, and worked good for Japanese filenames. [Bug 1796722] Re: Unusual Region & Language settings on Live Session after clicking "Try Ubuntu"
#7 is accidentally posted. I don't know much about other than Janpanese, but I can confirm input-souces settings are different between "choosing language on isolinux menu" and "choosing langage on Ubiquity Greeter" for above languages. [Bug 1796722] Re: Unusual Region & Language settings on Live Session after clicking "Try Ubuntu"
Thank you for your reply. > The fact that Mozc isn't available is indeed an issue. It sounds to me > as the same issue as the one reported at bug #1786344. Do you agree on > that? It seems to me this bug is a little different from the bug #1786344. Comment #10 of the bug #1786344 you wrote could be related this bug, but other comments may be related to other problem on inputting chinese. > Besides that, it's unclear to me how your other observations are > problems. If you think they are, please let us know what you think > should be the expected behavior in the various examples. This bug occurs only after maybe-ubiquity mode(ubiquity --greeter). According to the bug #1766047, it's impossible to boot in maybe-ubiquity mode when booting in UEFI. So this bug occurs when booting in legacy BIOS. When choosing 日本語(Japanese) on isolinux menu and select インストールせずにUbuntuを試してみる(Try Ubuntu without installing), I can use Mozc without problems on live session. dconf shows ('ibus', 'mozc-jp') for input-sources as follows. [Bug 217627] Re: Japanese keyboard layout is incorrct in the case of upgrading 7.10 to 8.04
This problem seem to be caused that new xorg doesn't support Option XkbVariant latin, for Japanese 106 keyboards, but the upgrade program doesn't rewrite xorg.conf to change latin, to 106,. Possible two solutions: a) xkeyboard-config supports Option XkbVariant latin,. b) upgrade program changes latin, to 106, in the case of Japanese Keyboard a) is better solution than b). This is because there are many xorg.conf examples for Japanese users on many web site including Option XkbVariant latin,. If xkeyboard-config remain the current configuration for JP keybaords, many Japanese users will be puzzled. I'm attaching updated /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/jp file which supports latin,. I hope this file included in new xkeyboard-config package if OK. ** Attachment added: jp http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13461091/jp -- Japanese keyboard layout is incorrct in the case of upgrading 7.10 to 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

FWIW, a simple sudo dosfsck /dev/sdb1 on my USB stick which has Japanese file names on it did not break things. But I have been mostly using this stick from Linux and only occasionally from a friend's computer with Windows. dosfsck seems to break filenames which includes 0x5c, this code equal to the code of \(back slash). [Bug 217121] Re: Ubuntu instration breaks Japanese file names on FAT32 patition
This seem to be because running dosfsck on FAT32 patition when ubuntu boots up. But dosfsck has problem of multibyte characters - see #49217. Ubuntu installer writes /etc/fstab as follows: # /dev/sda1 UUID=3F19-1E0C /windowsvfatutf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 1 To avoid running dosfsck on FAT32, this should be as follws: # /dev/sda1 UUID=3F19-1E0C /windowsvfatutf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 0 I'm not sure this solution is harmful or not for other languages, but parhaps it is no need to run fsck on windows patition. -- Ubuntu instration breaks Japanese file names on FAT32 patition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 63915] Re: Japan keyboard layout is actually U.S. English on installer
This problem still exists in Feisty Beta. I found the cause of this problem is that the layout string 'jp' is replaced to 'us,jp' in adjust_keyboard function in /usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/components/console_setup.py. I rewrote this file not to replace the string 'jp', restarted installer, and worked fine. I'm attaching a patch for this script. [Bug 97466] Re: Backslash key is dead on text console with Japanese keyboard
Cause of this problem is that keycode 124 is not included in /etc /console-setup/boottime.gz. Fix Instruction: 1. Run the following command. ~$ sudo nano /usr/bin/ckbcomp 2. [Bug 63915] Re: [Edgy Beta] Japan keyboard layout is actually U.S. English
Thank you for your reply. I don't mean to input Japanese characters(like 'あ') printed on Japanese keyboard, but to input some latin characters with Japanese keyboard. Japanese keyboard has different layout from us one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Japanese For example, '@' locates on the right side of 'P' on Japanese keyboard, but '[' locates at the same place on US keyboard. I selected Germany in ubiquity step 3, type 'z' and 'y' appeared. This seems to be correct. Germany keyboard has 'y' on the left of 'x'. But I switched to Japan, type '@' and '[' occured. This causes that they can't type some latin caracters with Japanese keyboard on live session. For instance, they can't type '_'(under score) for their hostname. -- [Edgy Beta] Japan keyboard layout is actually U.S. English https://launchpad.net/bugs/63915 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
