[Bug 879172] Re: cups-pdf not creating any output if changing output directory

2014-01-04 Thread Josef Wolf
Unfortunately, I still see this bug in 2.6.1-6.

I experience the same problem, although I have not changed the output
directory (so it's still at its default ~/PDF) and the proposed lines in
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd are set as suggested above.

I don't see how the bug could have been fixed if the core of the problem
has not been addressed at all. The debug logs above show clearly that
the output file is deleted immediately after creation. My debug logs are
exactly the same. So what has apparmor to do with that? Apparmor would
_prevent_ the creation of the file. But what's the point of _deleting_
the file after creation? Is there any point in using cups-pdf if you
would not want to _keep_ the generated file?

[Bug 879172] Re: cups-pdf not creating any output if changing output directory

2014-01-04 Thread Josef Wolf
I have now tried to set the output directory to /var/tmp/PDF and set
this directory to mode 1777

The result is the same: the file is created, then deleted, and at the
end comes the error message that the file mode could not be set. Not a
big surprise, since changing the mode of a deleted file is likely to
report an error.

[Bug 521533]

2013-10-24 Thread Aaron Wolf
(In reply to comment #30)
 (In reply to comment #29)
This is obnoxious. My partner sent me a file with forms filled. I changed
them. There's NO WAY to keep having editable forms and send her back the
  file with the changes!

I tried save as and still get the old data there. I had to do it as a
print, which means she then manually updates in her program.

  This situation is horrible.

This is not the way to report bugs. Please give developers some information
about your system (name and version), version of Okular and version of
Poppler libraries (can be determined with pdftops -v command in console or
 using your favorite package manager).

BTW, just works here (even for XFA documents if Foxit reader used).

Sorry, I just assumed this was the same as the original bug, i.e. an
intentional and flawed design. I didn't think this was behaving
differently from intended, I thought the issue was simply that the
intention was a bad one.

If you intend it to actually work reasonably (which I'd hope), and it is
something about my system, well: I'm on KXStudio, which is a derivative
of Ubuntu. I'm using standard KDE 4.11.2 and Okular 0.17.2 and pdftops
0.18.4.

To clarify: if I open and change the forms myself, they persist on my
machine. If I send the form as an e-mail to someone else, they lose my
form changes. If I save as on my own machine, the new file reverts to
the old form data and loses my changes even on my machine. Note that
this is a case where the file I got from someone else started with some
form data already, entered in some program other than Okular, and I was
changing it.

[Bug 521533]

2013-10-24 Thread Aaron Wolf
It seems that poppler libraries in your system are too old (Okular itself is
up-to-date). You need to install at least poppler-0.20 (or better 0.22) to
have reliable forms and annotation editor which can save the data in PDF.
Try to find some PPA with newer version (Debian Sid has 0.18.4, Ubuntu 13.04
has 0.20.5 and Ubuntu 13.10 has 0.24.1). Sorry.

Please take into account that some other applications (e.g. Inkscape) can be
dependent on the old version of poppler, so the safest way is to build and
install libraries on your own (it is not hard at all, so they do not break
 anything).

Oh how strange, thank you. I will figure this out! Sorry to have made
assumptions about things…

[Bug 1241391] Re: Release upgrade to 13.10 breaks on Macbook Pro Retina 15

2013-10-23 Thread Wolf Rogner
Brian,

thank you for your suggestion.

I found out about the xorg-edgers files by going through synaptic descriptions.
After manually removing all references and deinstalling facebook account
settings the upgrade went smoothly.

However, the link you present (you did that on another posting as well)
does NOT contain any reference on how to remove the files or revert to
the old settings.

There are still some glitches but I'm happy now.

Thanks

[Bug 1241727] Re: Cannot upgrade 13.04 to 13.10

2013-10-20 Thread Wolf Rogner
Sorry for this misinformation.

I have found two more drivers from the xedger repo that I haven't
downgraded.

Removing the repo from sources.list (or from the system settings dialog)
is not sufficient. One has to manually downgrade ALL the xserver-xorg-
video... drivers that come from xedger not just the ones installed.

After doing this, dist-upgrade works fine.

[Bug 1241898] Re: do-release-upgrade to 13.10 saucy fails amd64

2013-10-20 Thread Wolf Rogner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1241420 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241420

Scott,

I had to manually remove (downgrade) any xserver-xorg-video... drivers that had
a version higher than ...raring...
I also cleaned out /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ from any repo that might contain
video drivers and removed xedger from sources.list file.

After that (it took me at least 5 attempts) the system was clean and did
a dist-upgrade.

Maybe you want to look into /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log and main.log
for indication of whether there are some drivers left.

(If you run vmware like myself, see for the vmware video driver as well)

good luck

[Bug 1241391] Re: Release upgrade to 13.10 breaks on Macbook Pro Retina 15

2013-10-19 Thread Wolf Rogner
Seems #1241741 and #1241898 have the same issue

I removed the x-edger ppa as suggested in 1241741 to no avail

The update breaks not only on macs

I could not find any indication in the log files.

[Bug 1233399] [NEW] Encfs over .gvfs-ssh

2013-09-30 Thread misha wolf
Public bug reported:

Using 10.04 through 12.04

Mounting an sftp share through nautilus and mounting a subdirectory of the
share via encfs works.
Reading / writing small files works. Directory creation works. Writing files
4k fails after 4k is written with: Error Splicing File: Input/Output Error.

Using sshfs on the commandline with encfs works without issue.
I'm assuming a .gvfs specific tweak since it also works fine with Raspbian,
and MacFuse.

[Bug 1036401] Re: [Apple MacBookPro6, 2] Magic mouse looses connection

2013-08-25 Thread Wolf Rogner
I can confirm the issue pertaining in the current version on any
combination of hardware.

It starts with an error from the powerd. The mouse battery reading turns
to 0 (indicated by red outlined battery symbol in the top bar)

Then the mouse stops and after some frantic gesturing, the powerd reads
the battery again and the mouse works. Sometimes this procedure takes
about 5 minutes (frantic gesturing I mean).

Haven't tested any upstream kernel yet, because I see no fixes that
would make sense to me.

[Bug 277578] Re: ecryptfs does not work properly over nfs, cifs, samba, WebDAV, or aufs

2013-08-20 Thread Max Wolf
Hi zombi

for me doing a bindfs mount on top of the webdav mount and then
mounting the ecryptfs on the bindfs mount worked.

does this work with distributed editing?
e.g
- mounting from device A
- mounting from device B
- edit on device A

are the changes properly reflected on device B ?

[Bug 1072360] Re: [Macbook Pro 6, 2] Suspend to RAM fails (non-free: nvidia wl)

2013-08-11 Thread Wolf Rogner
it works on the MBP 6,2 now with kernel 3.8.0.28

However I have a similar issue with a MacBook Pro with Retina display
(15).

In order to get the machine to sleep, I have to open system settings /
power management and just click on the button to sleep when the lid is
closed.

This does the trick.

I don't know what is done that suspend to RAM is so error prone these
days.

[Bug 1210380] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.32-0ubuntu0.12.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2013-08-09 Thread Ole Wolf
The fix proposed by Gérald ibn step 9 worked for me, too.

I'm not sure there's actually invalid SQL in the postinst file as Lars
suggests, because multiple MySQL queries can be added on the same line
as long as they're separated by ';' as is the case in the script.

[Bug 1186180] Re: linux-kernel 3.8.0-23 breaks on MBPret 13

2013-08-05 Thread Wolf Rogner
I'm not worried about rebooting. I am worried about that I do not have
access to the machine. It is used and the person using it travels
around.

I hope to get a hand on the machine after the summer.

So, if there is an easier way to install a kernel I could ask the user
to do it

[Bug 1208121] [NEW] Nautilus saves files under wrong name

2013-08-04 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Nautilus saves file under wrong name

During a rename process, if you copy a file into a directory where a
file name is still under renaming, the newly copied file gets the name
of the renamed file and the to-be renamed file stays the same

How to verify:

in a directory with one file test.txt
rename test.txt to test2.txt but DO not confirm (by clicking somewhere else or
hit Enter)

copy file something.txt into this directory (from a separate window or
from a browser)

you see 2 files in the directory

test.txt
test2.txt (which is something.txt you copied into the directory)

It should be

test2.txt (which was test.txt originally)
something.txt

Not critical if you know it but serious if you want to find the files
later

Sorry, cannot do this. Its a production machine now and I have very

Is there another way to test the kernel? (a ppa package)

[Bug 1184336] [NEW] Missing library link to i386 libGL.so.1 for skype under x64

2013-05-26 Thread Christian Wolf
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I had the following issue on a x64 Ubuntu:
I just installed skype via apt-get. On running it, I get some error saying that
libGL.so.1 is not found.

I solved the problem by adding a file /usr/local/bin/skype (see
atachment) setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH. This is quick and dirty but does it
for me.

I am unsure, why the library is not found by the loader. There seems to
be no config file for the library loader. in /etc/ld.so.conf.d. I think
(but am not sure) that this should be set up correctly by the libgl1
-mesa-dri package.

[Bug 1176340] [NEW] Suspend menu disappears

2013-05-04 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Sometimes suspend to RAM does not work

I got used to this annoyance by using the Suspend menu in the upper

Since the last upgrade, this menu disappears after using it on the next

Is this a regression?

2013-05-02 Thread Max Wolf
The following workaround works on my thinkpad:

echo on | sudo tee /sys/class/net/eth0/device/power/control

Btw: In my case the device gets disabled everytime i unplug the powerchord.
So i have to reeneable it, every time i unplug.

[Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-04-26 Thread Martin Wolf
well i also have this bug and own an amd 7870 videocard using the catalyst
driver... i think it is obvious that
every proprietary linux video driver causes this issue.

of course the LD workaround also lets skype start for me, but i have a severe
crackling
on my headset for a few seconds and starting and ending calls does not work
as flawless as it should ...

i tested my headset audio output through audacity and there are no disortions,
so this
is a skype thing ... im not sure if it is connected to the library linking ...

xserver-xorg-dev and xvfb

All in the Version 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.12

Just checked with Synaptic the Version.

Even afer a restart the bug still exists.

So the verification faild.

I have an 32Bit Ubuntu.

Interesting is, that the Patch from #35 that worked for me is also not
working anymore !!

worked but now i have problems with audio and network. the kernel 3.5.0-25

[Bug 1059003] Re: CSS relative import not working

2013-02-26 Thread Wolf
Hi,

no, everything seems to work now, at least in my version (I have the
gnome team ppa) and in the gtk3-demo application.

I am not sure, but it seems like the relative path takes a resource://
now, maybe that's what fixed it ...

Thanks for your work!

[Bug 1098298] Re: NetworkManager fails to detect link status change -- Intel 82577LM e1000e

2013-02-17 Thread Tobias Wolf
I see this too. NM stuck at unplugged.

The thing is I only load e1000e on demand with modprobe because I
normally don't need Ethernet and want to conserve the few milliwatts
it's using when loaded.

So now when I load the module dmesg and NM never pick up link state.
mii-tool does though.

[Bug 1120660] Re: Kernel Panic when running 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' ?

2013-02-11 Thread Tobias Wolf
James, I cannot confitm that this fixes the issue.

Manually creating it with mkdir /var/log/upstart and doing telinit u
still panicked the kernel.

Then I put mkdir /var/log/upstart into /etc/rc.local and it still
panicked after a reboot.

Is it that the creation happens too late?

[Bug 1120660] Re: Kernel Panic when running 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' ?

2013-02-10 Thread Tobias Wolf
I get this too and have narrowed it down to the re-exec of upstart in
some packages dpkg postinst scripts.

To trigger the panic you can just run sudo telinit u

When I removed the Upstart rexec lines from libc6 and libjson0 postinst
the dpkg configure went through.

** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) = upstart (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

- Recently, I am seeing a few kernel panics.
+ Recently, I am seeing a few kernel panics. [ Assertion failed in
+ log_serialise ]

The latest one happens when asked to run E: dpkg was interrupted, you
must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

I've also seen them when trying to change compiz settings.

They seem to have started a couple of days ago in the middle of an
upgrade, I guess during some Xorg and/or nvidia related upgrades.

However, it happens now each and every time when running 'sudo dpkg
  --configure -a'.

[Bug 1118687] [NEW] confusing documentation installation-guide

2013-02-07 Thread Fedaykin Wolf
Public bug reported:

on page https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/installation-guide/i386/preseed-
using.html

says 'put preseed.cfg' in root where 'initrd resides'.This is ambigious
as, initrd.gz is in two folders /install and /install/netboot and I
cannot find file initrd, which is it?

Not one fits the description, and it's supposedly as simple as putting
preseed.cfg in a folder.

I'm trying to preseed a head-less Ubuntu Server using an USB drive.

Yes in clear text
However, entering the credentials in the dialog does not help either.

[Bug 1091695] [NEW] dmraid creates too small of a device (32-bit truncation)

2012-12-18 Thread Carlo de Wolf
Public bug reported:

Device mapper goes bananas on the provided table:

[1.530703] device-mapper: table: 252:4: dm-0 too small for target:
start=268699648, len=9792587776, dev_size=2545099264
[1.530985] device-mapper: table: 252:4: dm-0 too small for target:
start=10061287424, len=1073745408, dev_size=2545099264

As can be seen, the actual device created is too small:

# dmraid -r
/dev/sdc: isw, isw_dbjcghcgcd, GROUP, ok, 5860533166 sectors, data@ 0
/dev/sdb: isw, isw_dbjcghcgcd, GROUP, ok, 5860533166 sectors, data@ 0
# dmraid -s
*** Group superset isw_dbjcghcgcd
-- Active Subset
name : isw_dbjcghcgcd_Volume0
size : 2545099264
stride : 256
type : stripe
status : ok
subsets: 0
devs : 2
spares : 0

2545099264 = 0x97B32200

Using the following on dmsetup works:

0 11135033344 striped 2 256 /dev/sdb 0 /dev/sdc 0

11135033344 = 0x297B32000

The GPT partition does not have that last 512 blocks listed and parted
would complain otherwise.

[Bug 1091695] Re: dmraid creates too small of a device (32-bit truncation)

2012-12-18 Thread Carlo de Wolf
Related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid/+bug/599255
but the end conclusion there seems to be a controller issue.

[Bug 833952]

2012-12-18 Thread Ron Wolf
(In reply to Markus Fischer from comment #29)
(In reply to Ron Wolf from comment #28)

I've been using this dialog since , I guess, five or more years (feels to me
like I've always used it, don't know). It brought me great awareness but
 also annoyance.

I switched my mentality: don't accept cookies, unless required. By using
 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cookie-controller/ , I'm able
place easy accessible buttons which allow me to a) enable it for session
only or persistently and b) easily allows me removing site-specific or all
 session cookies.

I don't operate on Dialogs with this add-on but only on the icons in my
 toolbar. YMMV. HTH

Marcus,

Thank you for the pointer to cookie-controller, much better!!! Almost
good enough. Don't know why I didn't think to look for an add-on, maybe
assumed that cookie mgmt is a core browser function and didn't think
add-on. Anyway, thx!!!

So then two additional comments:

1) The cookie-controller add-on is SO MUCH BETTER than FF's built-in
cookie mgmt that I suggest dropping the idea of fixing FF's built in
function and instead incorporate cookie-controller in the mainstream
release. If you like, I'll generate a long list of how cookie-controller
add-on is better.

2) I don't find the essential and documented same as the previous
session cookie controller option. Marcus? Do you see this option? Maybe
I'm just missing it???

[Bug 833952]

2012-12-18 Thread Ron Wolf
(In reply to D. Hugh Redelmeier from comment #30)
I'm getting a particularly frustrating variant of this problem with firefox
 17.0 on 64-bit Fedora 17 Gnome.

I get a stack of these cookie confirmation dialog boxes and I wish to click
allow for Session on each of them. The top of the stack won't take a
click! If I drag the FF window, some of the stack of dialog boxes moves,
and some doesn't. Then, at least one of the visible boxes can be clicked
 and dismissed.

Observation 1: the biggest surprise is that the box that I can click after
this maneuver seems to have the same contents as the former top box that was
unresponsive. I wonder if the display was not correctly rendered before the
 maneuver.

Observation 2: if the cookie dialog box were not modal (is that the correct
term?) and each of them would take clicks at any time, the order of the
stacking would not be so critical.

Right now, I feel like I'm in a game of Adventure (twisty little passages,
all alike) and I don't want to be.

Yes, this is the bug that is being complained about here. Nasty. Suggest
you take Marcus' (as I have) and install the https://addons.mozilla.org
/en-US/firefox/addon/cookie-controller/ add-on.
