Are you working with ODF? This is important since using DOC or DOCX might be lost in convertion, specially if you are using some odd content in the document (like flash inserts or something similar) also known as binary objects. Re: MAIL MERGE TO AN OPENOFFICE CALC DOCUMENT
I see, I am sorry is giving you troubles. I am not sure exactly how to reproduce the error and all I can do is forward you some tutorials. Basically the mailmerge has to do with fields, the Mailmerge Wizards is in fact a macro that assign these fields and automagically go ahead in a sequence. To debug these mailmerges you would need to go to the assigned field and see if there is something wrong being defined. Fields are very powerful and can have something more than just squence, but lso conditionals, randomizers, references, etc. We have a whole book on Fields[1] that you can learn from. But this is for your own education on the platform. To solve the issue I think you can re-build the mailmerge and go step by step (if you haven't have to). And pay close attention where the field in question is being created. Another strategy is to breakdown the merge and do the merging in sections, meaning that you would need to generate the mailmerge with only the fields that you think have issues and see if this is being repeated in isolation. If this works, then there might be some other field interrupting the process. PD: Sovleigh Haugland has an excellent tutorial on Mail Merge althought is a bit dated, it still works wonders. It explores and redescover the power of mailmerging. Re: OpenOffice 4.1.1. failure to perform
OpenOffice has a really advanced PDF engine, including index, annotations, passwords, and PDA\A which can be editable PDF. I would recommend it far beyond PDFCreator. And OpenOffice has a PDF icon right next to *"Print"* on the toolbar, really no reason to overlook it. As for Images, I recommend using *OpenOffice* *Draw* instead. You can export JPEG/PNG/SVG/GIF/WMV etc. On Sat, Mar 14, 2015 at 9:22 PM, John Hart wrote: > Copy and paste is a data typed procedure that depends on the operating > system. Re: I have lost everything
You are welcome and is great that it worked for you. Just remember this issue has nothing really to do with OpenOffice. As a matter of fact this could happen with any piece of file (document, music, image, etc.), for example anytime you install a new video or music player, your music could be redirected to that new player. Is just the way Windows handles relationship between file formats (pdf, doc, mp3, mp4, etc.) and applications. Cheers from Cancun. Re: OpenOffice.org and C++
The code is pretty much the same, so it shouldn't be that different. Libraries have been added but the architecture remain the same. Same with the coding conventions and other things regarding the organization of the code. There is not newer documentation regarding AOO and Cpp. So for better or worst this is all the resources you will find. There are some C++ tutorials there, the page list you several areas to work with AOO. I dont use VS nor do I recommend it, since AOO is mainly built using GCC. VS always have issues including some library that has had issues when working with AOO. Re: Download Problem
Well you can edit your windows menu to link to your OpenOffice program. To do this on a Windows you need to open the Windows Menu, right click and select, add program and a dialog will ask you to *Choose File* and go to your *Program Files *directory and select *Apache OpenOffice/soffice.exe*. This will add an OpenOffice icon on your menu and will have a quick access to OpenOffice. Re: need help with a problem
OpenOffice is not a company, no offices, no phone. Is a community and a project, you are free to use it, test it and distribute it. You can also hire support from companies that do professional support for it. They do have a phone number: http://www.openoffice.org/bizdev/consultants.html We would need more information in order to determine when and how does the Freeze happens. It could be a third party application interrupting on the closing process. Please give us the version of OpenOffice that you are using, the current one is 4.1.1. Usually configuring openoffice the right way will help you prevent this. If you enable auto-save it will force you to save it as you go along. Also a backup directory should be configured to have an alternative copy that you can go if things happen to your Document folder. Not exactly sure what you are trying to do here, but simply inserting a footer will make the Page # field (on insert -> Fields -> Page #) will auto-generate on all the pages of the document. For end notes, simply adding Insert -> Endnotes will do. Re: Lost info
That means that your file is corrupt. The best way to configure AOO under these circumstances is to enable the auto-save feature located on Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> General Reduce the minutes of saving, and also enable the option of: - Edit document properties before saving - Always save a backup copy This will ensure all your work is saved from the start and continually being saved every 3-5 minutes (depending on how much you reduce the autosave). This way your work will not be lost. On 11/16/14, Rod Huxley wrote: > I have an Acer (all in one) desktop computer. Z5610. I was having trouble > with continual instantaneous shutdowns. Re: Can't open OpenOffice files
There are many ways to do it. a) Re-install OpenOffice over itself. b) Manually assign the file-type to the program. The first one is a bit more intrussive but is faster. The second one will be safer but will take more steps. File association relies on the Operating system and NOT on OO. So the steps has to happen in windows. To perform the file association follow this steps: - Go to Control Panel on Windows - Go to Control Panel Home > Default Programs > Set Associations. Select a file type in the list and click Change Program. - Select the extensions you neeed (doc, docx, odt -> OpenOffice Writer, etc) For further details go here: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-file-associations-windows On 11/12/14, Bud Oliver wrote: > Greetings: > I am 77 and not very computer literate but have been using OO for some > time word processing etc. I downloaded 4,01 Beta and then 4.01 which I > have been using fine. Re: too much memory used
AOO doesnt use that much memory. AFAIK is a 80MB downloaded, installed is only 370MB. And as far as RAM goes, when using around 500MB of virtual memory and only 130 of RES memory after opening a document, (2)spreadsheet presentation, base document and draw document. So if your computer is under 512MB it should run adecaute. In all cases an upgrade of RAM should cost u around $25-$ 30 USD. There are tools to 'decompile' microsoft access files, like mdb. But in general, this will work for queries and data, and not for forms or reports. However in essence reports are queries + document. The link was for the chromebook script to load opensuse, I know there is one, but I couldnt find it on google. Is a related project of the chroagh. There is another one for fedora, all resides on github, but I cant really seem to find them at the moment. I didnt dedicate much time either, if people really want to get them, I could spend more time looking for them. But I think I respond the question here. The biggest problem however when dealing with Chromebooks is that the first generations were ARM while the latters were Intel x86_64. So there should be some pre-selection on which model of the chromebook you have. I currently own a chromebook HP 14 (intel) and run Arch linux using the chroagh. This is not the Distro link, since is not meant to be installed as dual boot system but as a chroot distro which lives paralllel to the chromeos and can be started and switch with a keystroke (alt-fn-F3) while ChromeOS lives on (alt-fn-F1). > >> On 10/30/14, John Menchen wrote: >> > I love Apache OpenOffice, but I hate Windows and just can't get used >> > to Mac OS XIII (or whatever number they're up to now). Re: [libreoffice-users] Is there a way for a Basic macro to detect what application is running it?
A ctually there was another change from the post that I put before, the Setup.xcu seems to be replaced by the registrymodifications.xcu This has an ID check that list the following node: 411m6(Build:9775) Unfortunately there is no such thing as a vendor name, but I hink this could be good enough, unless someone come with a better node. Re: Is there a way for a Basic macro to detect what application is running it?
There sure be an environmental variable somewhere related with the application build version that will have the libreoffice / openoffice delimiter. One way is to consult the Setup.xcu of the product. Here is a forum post with a python script that looks there, however this is for PyUNO des. a Basic should in theory be simpler. https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=19202 On Sun, Oct 19, 2014 at 2:06 PM, Johnny Rosenberg wrote: > Here's my problem: > > I have both Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice installed and I use them > both. Make sure soffice exist and is not a broken link in /usr/bin/soffice If you install OpenOffice from our website, it will reside on /opt/OpenOffice/program/soffice Otherwise, please check the pacakge information, googling here is the openoffice package for Kubuntu: https://launchpad.net/~apacheopenoffice However is terribly outdate (3.4) currently we are on 4.1.1 My best recomendation is to download from our website. Re: [OT] why so many accidental subscriptions?
Also the problem is that mail clients treat the instructions like a signature, so it hides them. I bet this wouldnt happened if the instructions were at the top, which agreed, would be pretty irritating to most users. Another thing is that the instructions are not clear enough: To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org Would a lenghtier explanation of the process be needed. We could record a youtube video explaining how to de-subscribe and insert the link on these message this way users wil have at least more documentation on the unsubscription process. We do talk about it more at lenght at the mailing list pages: http://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html#using-mailing-lists Maybe a link to such page is required. I woudl also add further instruction on the page as to interact with the mailing list bot, so the user can know his subscription information. Re: AOO Ripoffreport
That is how reputation work, is not illegal to give negative reviews to products. Specially products that respond to enable free ways of distribution like ours. However the bigger picture is not whenever if there exist or not negative reviews (I am sure Firefox and Linux have their own share). But whenever the industry as a whole recomend OpenOffice which is what marketing should be all about. Instead we have a half death marketing list, there is currently no campaign for the 4.1.1 launch. No preparation for a "back to school" or seasonal message we want to transmit and is not like we are actively looking to give conferences and/or participate with industry journalists on the IT field. So in a sense we are doing next to none job on pushing our brand, and instead we are ranting about relatively small scams. To your point, we could use an international number even if its just a recording directing people to use the mailing list for further interactions. Re: Downloaded Open Office 4:10 and lost all my documents when Open Office 3 was replaced
This seems to be some issues on the operating system side, as the files aren't really associated with the correct program. Since we don't have "orange icons" except for impress is hard to know what kind of presumption is your operating system doing for you. I suggest to do a screenshot of the icons and put them on http://imgur.com or similar site, and paste the link back. However to fix any file association on your OS please read this tutorial from Microsoft. I assume you are using Windows 7/8: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-file-open-program#1TC=windows-7 On 8/21/14, Pip Woodcock wrote: > The documents show as orange icons (if that is the right terminology) on > desktop or in my documents and when I try to open them a box comes up > headed Microsoft Office and says "this program is unable to run because of > missing or corrupted files. Re: Thank you
Hi, I can recomend you to check out some youtube tutorials about how to use OpenOffice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI53WCpAJ3Y There are also free ebooks on http://www.odfauthors.org/apache-openoffice And finally on our own documentation site: http://www.openoffice.org/documentation/ Make sure that you donwload OpenOffice from our website or from Sourceforge. Once done that, please check out our templates here: http://templates.openoffice.org/ This will help you with your document design issues. Also to enhance the safety of your documents, please create a folder named 'backup' and go to OpenOffice Tools -> Options and General -> Path to set up the location where your backup documents will be saved. Here is a very nifty tutorial about it: http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/2006/11/creating_automa.html On 8/20/14, susiesharp2...@gmail.com wrote: > Today was a wonderful day. Re: OpenOffice is unreliable
OpenOffice has a backup location where you can recover your latest versions of your work. You access it from Options -> General -> Paths You can see where backup resides and get yuour documents. Also when you suffer from unexpected crashes, you are always presented with a crash report to fill out. At this stage this is not nearly a crash report which is completely useless to learn from it. Re: help please
If you are using Windows, a good emergency strategy is to try another set of OpenOffice. If yu have a SD card or USB memory dongle, you can install Portable OpenOffice. This will completely be separated from whatever nefarious stuff might be on your computer. Portable OpenOffice install to your USB memory making it able to run from any computer from the same Operating system and would be as easy as double click on the program there. Re: Pay for Open Office
Apache OpenOffice is free forever, you can get updates for free, extensions are free to install and is free for all platforms (OSX, Windows, Linux). There are donations which you are more than welcome to contribute, and there are professional support services that will charge you for their time, just like a trainner will charge you for a course in Apache OpenOffice at a competitive rate. However the software, is free of cost and also free to access the source code and make modifications, for governments, businesses, schools, hospitals or individuals. For more information look at our Why OpenOffice campaign here: http://www.openoffice.org/why/ On 7/18/14, James Lambert wrote: > Sir: > I had an argument with a technician at HP Last month. Make sure that the picture is embeded and not being linked from the internet (in case you copy paste it from the web). To do this go to Insert -> Pictures -> From files. Please visit the "Why" Project where it detail exactly what you want. http://www.openoffice.org/why/why_sme.html I've been using OpenOffice for more than 12 years, and the best reasons I can tell you is because you have a very efficient support system and also a long term relationship with a "Legal" software that won't let you down. OpenOffice have interesting technical features like the ability to be installed into a USB or SD card and be execute it from almost anywhere. Or even cloud services like rollapp which enable to pull it from a browser. However the best is the community that allow you to solve complex problems or even go beyond the office suite to integrate to enterprise applications. Re: How to put my resume file from email into the open office application and then send as a file
I think what he/she meant is something like what Microsoft Office has, which unfortunately is not the case in AOO. AOO sends the document to the mail client as an attachment as opposed to email body. This makes it hard for a resume user to email his content seamlessly. there have been projects that have been implemented to fix this but the issue remain on the email client as well. How can Outlook/Thunderbird/Kmail, etc return the html document back into ODT? Until then, email attachments and extra loading steps need to take place. Maybe some Google Summer of Code project to be solved once and for all. We just need to learn how to program the COM instructions and internal application messaging. Re: Absurd thing about macro security
Can you tell us what does ur macro actually do? Most of these settings are declared on the XCU whicch are XML. The schema could have changed or something along those lines like the path on the ~/.openoffice/ folder. However maybe you run your macros within AOO which could be a different service, so until we dont get that information we cant tell which change could have an effect on your macro. Re: Does this functionality exist in Open Office for the Mac?
The 'Home' button takes you to the first cell of the sheet while End to the latest cell with data of that row. Ctrl-Home will take you to the first cell of the whole sheet (A1) while Ctrl-End to the latest with data on the sheet. Please tell us which dictionary are you using and if it shows the checkup symbol on it. Languages that dont have this 'checkup' means that it cant find a dictionary for that language. Re: lost document (spreadsheet)
USually modern desktop have powerful search features to find files created at a certain date, you can use this to locate your document. I wouldnt relly *only* on AOO recent files menu. Depending on your OS you can use Spotlight in OSX, or Windows Search in W7/8 On Tue, May 27, 2014 at 4:11 PM, Alexandros Tatidis < alex.tati...@hotmail.com> wrote: > Hi! > > I had a document and was going to add some figures, but when I opened the > openoffice.org > > I got the new 4.1 automatically and can’t find my document - it is lost. > How do I get it back? > > I stored it on a usb but it’s the same there.
