Re: problem up updated Dropbox

2017-02-23 Thread Vicki
I contacted them through my computer using help and then support, but it did
take a little digging to get the form. I also heard from a human who said
the right person would be contacting me.

I haven't tried reinstalling the app. I hope it will install like it did, by
recognizing the app on my phone because I don't have a copy of 34.2.

Let's just hope they fix this bug.

I contacted Dropbox Support using the Feedback button from within the app
and it was accessible and easy to use. I actually got a reply from a human
via email the next day but it read like a boilerplate script and said my
comments would be forwarded to the appropriate party for investigation. In
the interim, I removed Drop[box 36.2 from my iPhone 7 and reinstalled
version 34.2 which doesn't have the bug.

I went through Dropbox's support page and finally got to where I could send
in a report.
I went into great detail with my explanation and had selected mobile iOS and
my device through there crazy web contact form.
I got a response that I hope was computer generated, because if it was from
a human, it means they hire people who cannot read.
The response just directed me back to the web site for mobile device support
around using the camera upload feature. I never mentioned the camera or
photos.

Very sad.

RE: Airpod question.

2017-02-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Eric,

Good choice, I think the current Airpods are quite a rip-off and in fact I was
at an Apple Store today to buy a headset for my wife as an anniversary present
and I was looking forward to checking out the Beats Solo and walked away deeply
disappointed. I am in Canada so the Beats Solo here is $329.95 + taxes and
while they sounded OK I could simply not believe such a large and, according to
Apple, advanced headset has no volume control. First the Airpods have no volume
control and now the Beats Solo also has no volume control, if this is the
wireless future Apple invisions they need glasses. I ended up getting her a
pair of the new BeatsX since she prefers earbud style headsets anyways over big
clunky ones. As for the Solo I can only say that in addition to the lack of a
volume control the sound is also just OK, I mean it's good but not special for
the price. I have listened to many a headset that costs between $150 and $200
Canadian and think they sounded just as good.
Another thing I noticed is that the canadian price for the BeatsX is a lot more
favourible than that of the Airpods. If I am not mistaken the BeatsX in the
States are $149 and the Airpods are $159, a $10 difference. Here in Canada the
BeatsX are $179 and the Airpods are $219, a $40 difference in our currency. If
I use the current exchange rate and convert $149 for the BeatsX to canadian it
works out to about $195 Canadian, but Apple Canada only charges $179 so
compared to the US price it's actually a good deal. If I convert the $159 US
for the Airpods to Canadian it is $208 or $209 so at $219 Apple put a 5%
upcharge on it at least based on the current exchange rate. How a $10 US
difference works out to be a $40 Canadian difference when $10 US is about $13.2
or $13.5 I don't know.
All in all I think that currently you can get a much better bang for your buck
if you look at third-party headsets and the Apple W1 chip to me seems very much
overrated. In fact, apart from the admitedly simple pairing process and maybe
the fact that any other Apple device that is connected to the same Apple Id is
supposed to pair I don't see a big advantage.
If you think of it the initial pairing process of a regular bluetooth headset
is also easy and in my view just as simple. With the BeatsX you still have to
push and hold the on/off button and the only difference is that a message pops
up on the screen asking if you want to connect to them so you save yourself a
few taps by not having to go into bluetooth settings and to double tap on a
newly paired device. With the BeatsX I had to double tap on "Connect" and then
on "Done" with a normal bluetooth headset I have to double tap on Settings,
then Bluetooth and then on the newly found device so it's one double tap more.

Regards,
Sieghard

Photo Labeling Question

2017-02-23 Thread Mama Otter
Hello. I have an ipad that I would love to put all my jewelry
photographs on for my etsy business so I could have them with me and I
could convert exclusively to that platform. But with them being on my
desktop I have each image labeled with the name of the item. Is there a
way to label images on the ipad? Any help on this is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Below is the link to the page which contains information and a link to David

You can't turn them on or off and while I don't have a set of them I did try a
pair at an Apple Store and I am pretty sure I remember that the battery status
was displayed in the status line on the iPhone where this is usually showing
for supported devices. I don't think you see how much battery is left in the

Jennifer,

David Woodbridge recently posted a fabulous podcast tutorial on setting up
Airpods on AppleVis.

I do not have the URL but I'm certain that a quick Google search will find it.

Give it a listen.

Hi all.
I finally got my airpods. Yay!!!
Question: how do I check the batery status of the pods and the case? Also,
isn't there a button on the case? A button to turn them off or on?
Thanks.

Re: Creating New Calendar Events with Fantastical 2?

2017-02-23 Thread Harry Bell
When using dictation to input an event in Fantastical 3 I have to turn off
voiceover, otherwise voiceover' verbosity gets entered in the text field for
the new event. If anyone knows of another work around, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks

RE: problem up updated Dropbox

2017-02-23 Thread Alan Lemly
I contacted Dropbox Support using the Feedback button from within the app and
it was accessible and easy to use. I actually got a reply from a human via
email the next day but it read like a boilerplate script and said my comments
would be forwarded to the appropriate party for investigation. In the interim,
I removed Drop[box 36.2 from my iPhone 7 and reinstalled version 34.2 which
doesn't have the bug.

I went through Dropbox's support page and finally got to where I could send in
a report.
I went into great detail with my explanation and had selected mobile iOS and my
device through there crazy web contact form.
I got a response that I hope was computer generated, because if it was from a
human, it means they hire people who cannot read.
The response just directed me back to the web site for mobile device support
around using the camera upload feature. I never mentioned the camera or photos.
Very sad.

Re: Airpod question.

2017-02-23 Thread SSEric
I was extremely disappointed in Apple. I went to the store a couple of days
ago, which isn't real close to me, and asked to see the AirPods. They did not
have any in stock and didn't even have one for demo. I thought they were much
better at retail than that.

I guess I will continue to wait and probably wait until the next generation. It
seems there might be a few bugs left in design in operation.

You can easily see the battery level of the case provided one airpod is in the

doing a three-finger right swipe from the home screen. Next, set your rotor to
headings and make you way to the batteries widget. Another easier way is to put
an airpod in the case while the other is in your ear and then close and open
the case holding it near your iPHONE. A window will pop up displaying the
status of each airpod as well as the case battery level. The case can't
transmit anything on its own which is why an airpod has to be inserted to check
its battery level. You can always get battery info about your airpods using the
battery widget in the today view while they're being worn.

You might want to check out the recently released article by Jamie Paul’s in
AFB’s Access World magazine. It does a great job of evaluating phones that are
not smart phones and are relatively inexpensive that talk. This may be helpful.

using an iPhone 5s, I went into KNFB Reader settings, selected reading

I went back through the settings, selected Tom Enhanced again, and backed out

Re: problem up updated Dropbox

2017-02-23 Thread Richard Turner

I went through Dropbox's support page and finally got to where I could send in
a report.
I went into great detail with my explanation and had selected mobile iOS and my
device through there crazy web contact form.
I got a response that I hope was computer generated, because if it was from a
human, it means they hire people who cannot read.
The response just directed me back to the web site for mobile device support
around using the camera upload feature. I never mentioned the camera or photos.
Very sad.

Re: Creating New Calendar Events with Fantastical 2?

2017-02-23 Thread Richard Turner

I do not know that any new integration with Siri has been implemented, but it
works great with any input method.
You can type in a sentence in the new event edit box and it will usually add
all the parts correctly, including repeating event info.
You can use Siri, much the same way as the native calendar app, since
Fantastical is just presenting things in a better format with VoiceOver, plus
has more customizable repeating event settings.
when I use Siri, I use the following format:
"create an event titled book club on Friday at 7 pm"
Or, "create a repeating event on the third Friday of the month, titled book
club, from 7 to 9 PM."
It takes a little trial and error.
HTH,
Richard

In my opinion, GPS is one area where designing for blindness is a big,

I have used several GPS apps and I absolutely love Nearby Explorer. It’s worth
every penny I spent! It’s invaluable to me when I
walk and am riding a bus. It is quite responsive and I don’t want to leave home
without it.

In my opinion, GPS is one area where designing for blindness is a big,
necessary plus. There are things we just need to know about
our environment that sighted people already have as a given. Having used both
mainstream apps and those designed with blindness in
mind, I much prefer the latter.

Hope this is helpful.

  Vicki,

I updated my iPhone 7 to the latest version of Dropbox and I'm getting those
same results with the files button. After selecting it and trying to swipe
through the files or folders, I'm taken to my home screen. Looks like we need
to write Dropbox support.

Since then, I can no longer get into the files tab on my IPad version of

I can double tap it, go to the top, but as soon as I try to swipe down the list
of files, it pops me into my home screen.

When I go back into Dropbox, I am in the recent tab again and the whole
thing starts over.

My IPhone version is working fine.

Is there a way to fix this that anyone knows of or is there any way to
reverse the update?

I hadn't backed it up yet and it is a new IPad.

Thanks.

Re: Airpod question.

2017-02-23 Thread Michael Feir
You can easily see the battery level of the case provided one airpod is in
the case. To get a good overview of your battery status, go to the today
view by doing a three-finger right swipe from the home screen. Next, set
your rotor to headings and make you way to the batteries widget. Another
easier way is to put an airpod in the case while the other is in your ear
and then close and open the case holding it near your iPHONE. A window will
pop up displaying the status of each airpod as well as the case battery
level. The case can't transmit anything on its own which is why an airpod
has to be inserted to check its battery level. You can always get battery
info about your airpods using the battery widget in the today view while
they're being worn.

Re: nearby explorer

2017-02-23 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I have used several GPS apps and I absolutely love Nearby Explorer. It’s worth
every penny I spent! It’s invaluable to me when I walk and am riding a bus. It
is quite responsive and I don’t want to leave home without it.

In my opinion, GPS is one area where designing for blindness is a big,
necessary plus. There are things we just need to know about our environment
that sighted people already have as a given. Having used both mainstream apps
and those designed with blindness in mind, I much prefer the latter.

I can double tap it, go to the top, but as soon as I try to swipe down the list

When I go back into Dropbox, I am in the recent tab again and the whole thing

My IPhone version is working fine.

Is there a way to fix this that anyone knows of or is there any way to reverse
the update?

I hadn't backed it up yet and it is a new IPad.

Thanks.

If your phone is connected to WiFi updates eventually all download
automatically and you are then notified that an update is available. You can
just go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap on “Install”.
I do recommend that before you do so you make a backup either iCloud or, if you
do iTunes backups then do that.
Also, close all apps and as a minimum do a reboot of your phone, I usually
prefer to do a Reset Network Settings as this will also do a reboot and it also
resets all network settings and may stop any processes which may have gotten
stuck.
Of course if you prefer to update via iTunes you can do so even though the
update was downloaded to your phone, I think for the most part minor updates
are OK to do over the air, but I also prefer to do major iOS updates like
whenit goes from iOS 10 to 11 later this fall via iTunes..

Regards,

Subject: iPhone message says software update ready to install

Getting an iPhone Message that iOS 10.2.1 is ready to install. I do updates in
iTunes, and have no idea how this update could have been downloaded to the
phone without my involvement. Is this what has really happened? Thanks.

RE: iPhone message says software update ready to install

2017-02-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If the update was small maybe it will download. Some minor iOS updates could be
quite small, but if it was a larger update then no, even if connected to AC
power no large files download via cellular data. I guess Cher would need to see
if under Settings > General > Software update the option is “Install”. If that
is the button then yes, the update would have downloaded.
I recently checked software updates as iOS 10.3 Beta 3 was available and for my
iPhone 6S Plus it was I think 369 Mb or something like that. I am not currently
at home and at first had WiFi turned off and while it showed the update was
available, the “Download and Install” button was greyed out and only once I
connected to an available WiFi was I able to download it.
I amnot totally sure what Apple allows to be downloaded on cellular, but I
think it might be up to 100 Mb.

Sieghard

power, and you're sillier date it was turned on didn't yes you could download
that way

I think you are both saying that the message really does mean that the update
has already downloaded- is that right? How could this happen?

RE: KNFB Voices

2017-02-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can only use what Apple offers. You might want to check out Tom Enhanced,
it is a pretty good male voice.

Very likely.
Knowing the name of the voice will help.
Then, go into the VoiceOver Speech settings, and double tap on the default
voice, and see if it is in the list.
You may have to add a voice or language, depending on which one it is.

RE: A few questions.

2017-02-23 Thread Mike Ulrich
Yes, at the top of the list will be the apps with the most amount of storage
taken up.
If you click on that app's listing, with a button at the end of the line; you
can delete the app, it's down towards the bottom of the page.

Hi Anna,

So if I'm understanding you correctly, when I am looking through what is
possibly taking up most of my storage, will the stuff that's taking up the most
amount of storage be listed first? Or do I have to look through pretty much
everything to get a general idea?

And also, is there a voice over command but I can execute to have my iPad read
to me and article all the way through?
Thanks. Also, is there a command to text say if I'm reading an article,
