RE: Major problem with latest iOS

It did not work for us we tried that. Even the Apple support person told us it
was not showing up to him when he did the screen share and we turned off voice
over.

When this happened with me last night with the NBA app, the screen appeared
completely blank when I was exploring it with VoiceOver, but my sighted wife
said everything looked completely normal to her. In other words, the screen
wasn’t blank to a sighted user, and voiceOver’s screen curtain wasn’t turned
on. It’s true that I couldn’t turn off screen recognition while I was in the
NBA app but I could do it when in the App Switcher, as Donna has pointed out.
This is what got this app working for me again, so I could listen to the Bucks

I think what everybody is failing to realize is when this problem occurs there
is no evidence of screen recognition in the rotor whatsoever because the screen
is 1000% completely blank meaning your app is completely useless you can’t do
anything with it whatsoever as nothing speaks and when you ask someone to

Re: Uber or Lyft round trip?

2021-06-11 Thread Wayne Merritt
One thing to note with Lyft, not sure about Uber. You have up to 3
minutes to do your things inside and then your ride will leave. I
learned this from either within the Lyft app or a Lyft email, can't
recall which right now. At any rate, you better be very fast. This may
be the over all guidance, since I've ridden with some drivers who seem
like they would wait longer than the 3 minute allotment. I haven't
done this before for errands, just speculating. I think the Lyft
guidance is just that, a rule of thumb. The Paratransit guidance says
that a driver can only take you curb to curb, but we've all
experienced some drivers who do that, and others who will hold the
destination building's door open for you upon drop-off.

Kindly,
Wayne Merritt

And if you & others turn off screen recognition like I suggest, by going into
the app switcher, rather than trying to turn screen recognition off within the
app, Aira & other apps will work just fine once again. Refuse to try my

Yes, I've used them both for that purpose. You are correct, you set your

Hi all,

Has anyone used Uber or Lyft for essentially running an errand. I've heard a
round-trip can be done by selecting multiple stops. Next week I need to do a
curbside drop off for our dog to the vet. I am wondering if this could be a
solution.

Thank you,

Assuming your phone has that feature turned on, if you turn it on on the iPad
Mini, it will load things from the cloud to match the phone.

It does not empty the phone.

The idea of his allowing this method is that you only have to download a book
or document on one device and then it syncs with the other device.

Also, if you read say 20% of a file/book on one device.

When you open that same file on the other device, and hit play, it will
start where you left off.

It is a bit slow if you have audio files and can be extremely slow if they
are large files.

Some people have not had great experiences also with very large libraries; as
in around a thousand files….

I now have the option to sync my libraries. If I am in the mini IPad with the
empty folders and select sync with ICloud, will that bring everything over from
my phone VDR app or will it empty my phone app to match my mini IPAD? I
certainly don't want both empty.

I also noticed when reinstalling it in my purchased apps that my wireless

that's rather disturbing to know that maybe if I had, it may have affected my
wireless router.

found it so useless, I have not had it on since.

All apps, including VDR, are working great in 14.6 on my SE 2020.

Perhaps turning off screen recognition under VoiceOver settings, VoiceOver
recognition, rebooting the phone, before installing VDR would be a work around.

But, everyone running into this issue needs to call Apple Accessibility for

You can go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, then
VoicOver Recognition, and in the screen recognition section is a list of
apps. You can turn screen recognition off for an app here.

2021-06-11 Thread Donna Casteen
With the problem apps in the app switcher, place voiceover focus on the app,
turn the rotor to screen recognition, flick to turn off screen recognition, tap
to open the app. I am not having any trouble using Aira. IOS 14.6, most recent
update to Aira.

Re: Serious Problem With Voice Dream Reader

2021-06-11 Thread Vicki W.
OK. I deleted it and reinstalled and it's there and will open, but, although my
created folders are still showing, of course they are all empty. I changed a
few settings but I do have a question.

I now have the option to sync my libraries. If I am in the mini IPad with the
empty folders and select sync with ICloud, will that bring everything over from
my phone VDR app or will it empty my phone app to match my mini IPAD? I
certainly don't want both empty.

I also noticed when reinstalling it in my purchased apps that my wireless
router app needed to be redownloaded. I hadn't set up the system yet, but
that's rather disturbing to know that maybe if I had, it may have affected my
wireless router.

I only used screen recognition a short time when it was first available and
found it so useless, I have not had it on since.

All apps, including VDR, are working great in 14.6 on my SE 2020.

Perhaps turning off screen recognition under VoiceOver settings, VoiceOver
recognition, rebooting the phone, before installing VDR would be a work around.

But, everyone running into this issue needs to call Apple Accessibility for
sure.

Sadly unfortunately if she’s having the same problem we are with the latest
update of iOS even if she does delete the app and reinstall it it will not
solve the problem. I hope that she’s not having the same problem but it is
seeming to be rampant and several of us are recognizing that it is happening on
our phones. Even if you do the forced restart even if you’ve done an iPhone
restore, since Apple is only allowing you even to go back if you were race your
phone and get one iOS iCloud back up if there was a problem in that back up you
can’t even go back far enough to get an update that will take you back to where
you once were. Sadly if people are having this problem we just ask that you
please contact Apple so that they can fix it. Dana

His update a little while ago added Bookshare version 2 and that required
reentering one’s login information.

I have VDR working fine on my SE 2020 with the latest updates.

I think what everybody is failing to realize is when this problem occurs there
is no evidence of screen recognition in the rotor whatsoever because the screen
is 1000% completely blank meaning your app is completely useless you can’t do

You don't hear of blind people or others for that matter running Safari on
their PC because Safari does not exist for Windows users.
Apart from that there is ltittle use in speculating until this is available and
we can all try it.

Hm, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think of Apple as having all that
great a reputation of making simple, easy to use and accessible applications on
other platforms. I still hear people complaining about iTunes on Windows. Last
I knew, iCloud on the PC also wasn't the most accessible application either. I
don't hear of many blind people running Safari on their PC's. Sorry, but I'm

I am pretty sure it won't be all that complicated hell apple is not known for
being overly complicated anyways.

If you're in an app which has screen recognition turned on, twist the rotor to
screen recognition and flick down to turn it off. Then twist away so as not to
accidentally turn it on again.

2021-06-11 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Or go into Settings/Accessibity/Voiceover, and within Screen Regognition, you
know how there's aa list of apps in which when selected, it'll turn it on
automatically? Go in and deselect that app, or turn off completely the Screen
Recognition option until it's fixed.
I've a blind friend here who has thethe same problem, which only started a few
days ago; he says that a sighted person says the screen and app are alright.
The problem is the Screen recognition feature itself.

2021-06-11 Thread Dana Leet

I’ve tried everything from clearing the app switcher doing forced restart so if
you know what that is with the up and down and then holding in the power button
tried every option possible that I could try we even restore through iTunes
which by the way if you guys need to do that you have to use NVDA as the latest
version of jaws is not working well with the latest version of iTunes but NBA
NVDA allowed me to do it. Sadly I’m hoping that the next iOS update will fix it
otherwise we’re not sure how many more apps we won’t be able to open

Hi,

I have a problem with Voice Dream Reader on my mini IPad five since the last
update of IOS and the VDR app. I usually make sure everything is working before
I update something else, but, of course, I was in a hurry and updated IOS first
and then my apps shortly after that without at least checking those apps which
I use every day. All of my other apps are working fine, but VDR is broken!
Below is a list of things that are happening.

1. Whenever I try to open VDR, it goes to my home screen. It shows up in the
app switcher, but I get the same result when I try to open it from there as
well. It simply will not allow me access.

But, everyone running into this issue needs to call Apple Accessibility for
sure.

solve the problem. I hope that she’s not having the same problem but it is
seeming to be rampant and several of us are recognizing that it is happening on

can’t even go back far enough to get an update that will take you back to where

I never did get into VDR. I just got into the settings for VDR in the IOS
settings. VDR won't open at all, and I didn't use bookshare. I can send him the
note if I can't find the answer in a day or two. It's the strangest thing that
it would only happen on my Mini IPad 5 and not my phone.

Thank you for the address.

Major problem with latest iOS

2021-06-11 Thread Tim Leet
Attention everyone, the latest iOS update has caused major problems. I
currently cannot use Microsoft outlook nor can I use Aira. When I try to open
these apps the only thing you get is a blank screen. I think one of the reasons
for this is because we turned screen recognition on while I was in the app the
other day. We did a reset on the phone and did a back up through iTunes, called
Apple and they did a screen share and video and send a ticket to the
tech-support. They ask that anyone that is having problems with any app not
opening to please contact them and let them know about it so they can try to
find the problem. My wife is also having difficulty with an app she downloaded
yesterday it was working she turned screen recognition on to try to figure out
something in the app and it will not load anymore. So the best advice I could
give you is do not turn screen recognition on if you do you may not be able to
use the app that you turned it on with because you definitely can’t turn it off
once this happens. Again anyone having these problems need to let Apple know.

Good morning everyone. I thought I would respond to this message in hopes that
a lot of you will read it. There is definitely a major bug with this latest iOS
update 14.6 it is happening on my husband and my SE 2020s and it makes sense
Vickie that it’s happening on your iPad for some reason if you ever turn screen
recognition on we are finding that some apps are refusing to open. My husband
is not able to get Outlook or Aira to open on his phone and I downloaded a new
app last night and it would not open on my phone. We contacted Apple support,
and they had us do screen sharing that and they are advising anyone who is
having these problems to contact Apple and have it screen shared so that they
can figure out what is going on because it is happening where many of us due to
this latest update are having trouble opening apps. I am certainly hoping that
my voice stream does not mess up because I have thousands of books in it

RE: Serious Problem With Voice Dream Reader

2021-06-11 Thread Richard Turner
I just delete apps where they are located by flicking up to edit mode and
double tapping, then select delete app and again delete app rather than remove
which just puts it in the app library.

Then, you can just redownload it through the purchased apps or sometimes it is
just as easy to search for the app in the app store and redownload it.
Then, you will need to go into the shop tab in VDR and select restore purchases.

Just on the home screen where the app is, swipe down to Ediit Mode, then once
Edit Mode is active, swipe down again and you are on Delete. Double tap and
confirm that you want to delete the app, you also have an option to move it to
the app library, but you want to delete it. Most likely you get one more prompt
and you have to confirm again, then it's gone. Yes, afterwards you can go to
your Purchased Apps section or simply search for Voice Dream Reader, it should
say "Download" or "Reinstall" and if it asks that you need to confirm anything
just do it, you will not be charged for anything you purchased before.

I update something else, but, of course, I was in a hurry and updated IOS first

  1. Whenever I try to open VDR, it goes to my home screen. It shows up in the
app switcher, but I get the same result when I try to open it from there as

  2. When VDR appears to be running, my app switcher will not switch from one
app to another with the four-finger side swipe. It goes directly to my home
screen instead.

  3. If I have several apps running in the app switcher, including VDR, when I
close one, VDR just vanishes as if it wasn't ever there and at that point my
app switcher will work properly with the other apps.

  4. If I open IOS settings, go into VDR settings, it seems as though it is
functioning as far as accessing the settings in the IOS settings. However, if I
close IOS settings, when I reopen it, instead of opening up the last setting I
was checking, as it has always done, it won't open VDR settings, but opens the
previous one I was checking instead.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried looking at every setting I can think
of, opening and closing other apps so the app switcher is completely empty,
turning the mini IPad off and on and nothing fixes it. My older SE phone, using
the exact same updates, works fine.

  Thank you.

You don't hear of blind people or others for that matter running Safari on

Apart from that there is ltittle use in speculating until this is available and

Hm, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think of Apple as having all that
great a reputation of making simple, easy to use and accessible applications on
other platforms. I still hear people complaining about iTunes on Windows. Last
I knew, iCloud on the PC also wasn't the most accessible application either. I
don't hear of many blind people running Safari on their PC's. Sorry, but I'm

2. When VDR appears to be running, my app switcher will not switch from one app
to another with the four-finger side swipe. It goes directly to my home screen
instead.

Thank you.

Serious Problem With Voice Dream Reader

2021-06-11 Thread Vicki W.

2. When VDR appears to be running, my app switcher will not switch from one app
to another with the four-finger side swipe. It goes directly to my home screen
instead.

Thank you.

Vicki

Keynote is like PowerPoint for windows. You can make slides with it for
presentations. The reason that you got browse when you opened up reasons is
because you haven’t made any presentations with the software yet. It is pretty
simple to use with just a basic presentation. You should experiment with it.

RE: FaceTime on Android and Windows

2021-06-11 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Hm, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think of Apple as having all that
great a reputation of making simple, easy to use and accessible applications on
other platforms. I still hear people complaining about iTunes on Windows. Last
I knew, iCloud on the PC also wasn't the most accessible application either. I
don't hear of many blind people running Safari on their PC's. Sorry, but I'm
still skeptical! 
