Re: Voice control on the 6S
A lot of voice control’s problems can be solved by saying "command mode" when you don’t want to dictate normally. You can still say "type " to dictate what you say before you pause when Voiceover is focussed on a text field. I can’t find a setting in voice control settings to turn command mode on by default. Great! The other option is to use headphones when using Voice Control so it doesn't hear VoiceOver talking. I forgot I had Voice Control on and went into the living room while the TV was on and started to write an Email. Well, if you ever want to get quotes from the TV, it does an OK job; just not helpful when trying to write an email, grin. Good catch, I need to spend more time with Voice control as I know some of my clients will be wanting to learn all of this. I forgot about saying tap whatever you want tapped. Teaching an old dog very new tricks ain't easy. Especially learning them in enough detail to teach. Good thing retirement is only about a year away. Re: Voice control on the 6S
Hi Anna, Given the issues that some people are having with voiceover cutting out and not being able to be brought back, I thought your idea about rebooting using voice control was a good one. So I turned voice control on on my 7+, but when I tell Siri to reboot the device it says it can’t. So I can’t tell it to restart by double tapping restart. All it does is tell me that I can restart my phone myself by pressing the side button at Cetera. But if I didn’t have voiceover on, Siri wouldn’t speak to me. And the whole problem of rebooting with no active voiceover is thus not solved. What am I missing? This voiceover cutting off bug is what is keeping me from updating my main phone. And I thought you had a really elegant solution. Mary Sent from my iPhone > On Sep 26, 2019, at 10:59 AM, Anna Dresner wrote: > > One cool thing you can do with Voice Control is reboot your device. I really need talk from my phone way more than I need to be able to talk to it, but yes, it is great that the feature is available to accommodate the needs of those who can make good use of it. I totally agree that this voice control feature is a total game changer for people who have extremely limited use of their hands or possibly no use as in somebody who is an amputee, Quadriplegic etc. Of course it is much easier for a sighted person to get full use out of this, but it is good to see that Apple is trying to also make this available to somebody who can't see and hence would be dealing with multiple disabilities. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Anna Dresner Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2019 10:59 AM To: VIPhone Mailing List Subject: Re: Voice control on the 6S Hi, One cool thing you can do with Voice Control is reboot your device. Hi, One cool thing you can do with Voice Control is reboot your device. You can use Siri to turn on Voice control, then say, "Reboot device," say "Tap restart," and it reboots. I wouldn't use it on a regular basis at this point either. It's really exciting for people who have limited use of their hands, though. RE: Voice control on the 6S
I agree with Sieghard. I've stated several times, it is focused at people who cannot manage the touch gestures. It includes blind people who cannot do the touch gestures. Where I work, we have several clients who, for a wide variety of reasons, cannot do the touch gestures and so have been limited to either a push button phone, or using Siri or OK Google on Android. This will be a great thing for them. But, if you can do the touch gestures, don't bother with Voice Control. Or, set it so you can turn it on or off with the triple tap of the home button for specific uses. The one place I can see using it over Siri, is with dictation. Since voice control keeps everything on the device and you do not need internet connectivity, it would be a better way to dictate text. Otherwise, it is an interesting thing to play with, but unless you have a 10 or 11, and somewhat true with the 8's, it is rather slow to respond. I only have gotten into it myself because of my job. I would not use it for anything but dictation on my SE. It just isn't responsive enough. RE: Voice control on the 6S
I did get it to work finally but afterwards my battery went down the toilet. I started at 100% at about 10:30 am and my phone died because of a low battery by about 12:30 during which time I didn’t make or receive a call or send or receive any text messages. The phone got quite warm as well. I’ll turn it off for a while and see if that helps or if this is a symptom of 13.1. RE: Voice control on the 6S
Now, what is it that I do to get Voice Control to work? I did look at it, wasn't sure what to double tap, since I thought I'd need to double tap whatever I wanted from Voice Control. Once I get it going, how does the phone know when I want to use it? Do I use the Home Button like calling Siri, but just start talking? Off the subject, I am overjoyed with the option to have unknown callers go to my Voice Mail.
