PayPal fees for domestic transactions are generally 3%, or thereabouts, so
they're not really that much more than standard banks.
The trick with foreign transactions is there's a conversion fee to change the
currency into US Dollars, not to mention the transaction fees.
That's more likely why

Their processing fees are a bit higher than other payment options.
