Winter has set in here in the Northeast (PA) and we
have had snow on the ground since Thanksgiving.
This is bad for the aninals and birds who need food
and can't get it through the snow cover.
A more serious problem, however is the need for indoor
activity for kit builders.
My kit resources are ex

Doubt it. They're basically an electric motor with an offset weight.
I'll admit I've never tried feeding them with AF AC, but I wouldn't
Hi
I found that BFO frequency is 50-100Hz higher at power on.
It takes about 1-1.5 hours to be fixed at correct frequency.
My K2 is #4504 so I believe it has been modified as Elecradt
made K2 BFO drift mod in 2002.
My question is that 50-100Hz drift is within specification ?

Thank you one and all for your prompt and helpful replies.
To sum them up -
1. It will be bad news if I remove the paper from a loudspeaker - it will
stop working.
2. A visual method of reading morse would be helpful but I would rather use
vibration, but visual and vibration would probable b

Do not cut the speaker cone. It serves two positioning purposes.
First it holds the voice coil in place so that it does not rub
against the magnet or driving coil (depending on the speaker type).
Second it provides the spring that allows the coil to return to the

Well...let's see if I can go three for three here before the year runs out.
Are there any K1 owners who are experiencing the following behavior of their
K1's?
If I use low impedance headphones I do not notice anything unusual.
If I use high impedance headphones and I turn down the AF gain all t

reacted well on all three bands; I heard the pileup around the Cuban

I too have hearing problems. I find the audio produced by the stock K2
lacking. I built up an external speaker and amplifier using an Elecraft
EC2 enclosure,
what a difference!
I used one of Tom N0SS's TDA2003V 5W AF Amplifiers. Two of the Elecraft

John, you bring up a very interesting issue here, and there are a world
of possibilities.
Speakers in general are transducers that convert electrical energy to
motion; the motion of the speaker coil moves the cone it is attached to,
which moves the air, which is what we hear or feel. So, more

Amazingly it still seems to work fine but
puts out about 7 dB more on the 50uv posision.
Guess R4 and R5 are all I need to repair. Thank
you Elecraft for an (almost) idiot-proof design!

before? What else is likely smoked?
