If that's the UK band (from Wales), which I think it is, they are relatively
new. They make progressive breaks with kinda cinematic aspirations. They are
on Distinctive Records. There was a buzz on their first album, their second
one has passed by.

hmmm strange news indeed; this hybrid as band or group or whatever
you might want to call it - i've never heard of them. legends?? duh.
maybe they make music thats not interesting from my point of view but if
they really were big enough to be called legends i probably would have
heard of them. I assumed Hybrid the Label changed it's name because they
shut down the old label and started a new one. But then again, i was
never much into the music released in either label so what do i
 know? :)

I recall there was a talk of some artist(s) called Hybrid threatening

Sabrettes is only tangentially related to Sabres of Paradise and

Andrew Weatherall (who released a couple singles on Sabrettes in

concert with David Hedger else under the name Lords of Afford), having

been run by Nina Walsh, (ex-?)girlfriend of Andrew Weatherall and

prime person behind Hydrogen Dukebox's Slab. Sabrettes was primarily a

hard techno label, but put out early stuff by Andrea Parker (in her

Inky Blacknuss guise -- Blacknuss is probably my favorite track by

her ever) and some amazing midtempo tech-house tracks by Pyrex Detox

(particularly The Bells of Induction) and Innersphere.

_Pink Me Up_ and _Pink'n'Poisonous_ catch Sabrettes at the two ends of

their arc -- the former was one of the first releases on the label,

and the latter was a retrospective released when Walsh decided to shut

the label down to concentrate on Slab. So, suitably enough, the first

is a little dodgy in places, and the latter specializes in the kind of

hard techno that Sabrettes came to excel. Their hard stuff has a

distinctly industrial edge and isn't for everyone, but I think the

Turbulent Force and Pod records on Sabrettes are pleasingly weird.

Sabrettes is, along with RS, UR, Tresor and the 94-97 run of Reload

Records, one of my all-time favorite techno labels, and I think the

comps represent it accurately. I have every release on the label that

 I've been able to find.

 Sueno Latino [S12DJ106].
what is the story behind m. goettsching's original track and
 carl craig and derrick may?

From http://www.ashra.com

(Biography)

1984

-Eleventh album MANUEL GÖTTSCHING E2-E4. Manuel's fourth solo album, and
first to be released under Manuel's name, a solo recording from 1981
( http://www.ashra.com/disco/1841e2.htm )

1989

-Cooperation with Italian dance music production DFC. Release of the
European No. 1 chart hit Sueño Latino based on Manuel's record E2-E4.

(FAQ)

What does the album title E2-E4 mean?

There are three coincidences for the title:

-When the title came to Manuel's mind (1978) there was not yet a specific
composition planed for it. He has watched the film Star Wars, in which
there was acting a little robot with the name R2D2. This name has inspired
him in fact.

-At the same time he was exploring his first Apple computer, trying to
write his own programs and learning about computer languages which deal in
their simplest form only with letters and numbers (hexcode, assembler).

-Finally, the title reminds on a common opening chess move, although the
correct writing would be in small letters. And for Manuel this meant his
opening move to release his first album under his name (no ASHRA, no ASH
RA TEMPEL)

aren't bits of E2-E4 used in remake?

Yes, they are.

For New Religion's Dan Keeling and Alex Bond, this compilation of
early 80s electronic tunes has been a two year labour of love.
Undetered by countless bootlegs of Alexander Robotnick's Problemes

oddest pre-techno tracks the world has evert heard. From the classic

it's clear that this compilation is the authoritative collection of the
once forgotten 80s underbelly. Also featuring comprehensive versions of

(313) Kraftwerk on MTV

2003-11-19 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight

They finally broadcast the Europe awards and we waited until Kraftwerk had
their appearance.
I must say that thanks to that show my wife now gets it - she wasn't
really a fan of them before and thought I was silly for singing along to
the Model.
Now she's asking me, incredulously, why I don't have Tour de France
Soundtracks yet.
So let this be the last time I ever say thank you MTV
I still can recall the first time I ever saw their video for Boing Boom
Tschak - it was on MTV.

So, what I'm curios about is - who are the other two current members of
Kraftwerk? There is Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider and.

Bartos and Flur left shortly before the release of the Mix in 1991.

Emil Schult is a collaborator of KW, having provided sleeve artwork as far
back as Autobahn, and also contributes lyrics to Tour De France Soundtracks.
The other two musikarbeiters are Henning Schmitz and Fritz Hilpert.

Actually, all of the Sabrettes full-lengths (_Pink Me Up_, the
Innersphere album -- which is varied and good, the hard acid techno
compilation _101 + 303 + 808 = Now Go Form A Band_, and
_Pink'n'Poisonous_) were all put out on CD, and the special
anti-Criminal Justice Bill (the infamous British law outlawing
gatherings characterized by the playing of music with repetitive
beats) single by Retribution (aka the Drum Club plus most of
Tackhead) was also put out as a CD maxisingle.

If you're going to hunt up one Sabrettes release on CD, your best bet
is _Pink'n'Poisonous_, which is continuously mixed by Tony Sapiano
(who also put out music on Emissions: Audio), has most of the label
classics, and was still widely available a few years ago.

a couple of comments:

1. i didn't think itunes had dance music from independent labels

2. people talk about how hawtin (and others) simply play the same set
over and over again, or at least variations of that set. it isn't hard to
understand why this dynamic occurs given his travel itinerary. doesn't
mean it is RIGHT...but it IS understandable.

3. i'm not familiar with the allen and heath mixer. what does he gain
from modifying IT as opposed to a standard say, GEMINI? (*ducks*)

Allen Heath make really high-quality gear. I can testify to this. I
borrowed an AH mixer for immedia 2 years ago and it fell face-down
onto a concrete floor from about 3 feet up. 2 faders were loose.
Everything else was still fine.

My Sony headphones, on the other hand, had their jack completely snapped off.

As Bill mentioned, it's high quality stuff (and muy expensivo). But as the
story states, his dad did the work on it kinda like a father-son project...and
when I talked to him about it a few months ago, he waxed on and on about it
worked well with his workflow/method, and was a familiar piece of equipment.
I got the sense that if he were attached to some other brand he'd probably
have modded that instead of the AH. He did note, however, that of all the
equipment mfgrs he shared the mod schematics with, AH was the only outfit
that showed any interest in discussing how to add them to their mixer line.

Heath (not of Allen Heath, by the way ;)

 1. i didn't think itunes had dance music from independent labels

Hi Lester, just read the interview. Richie didn't indicate that
he was downloading dance music from Itunes ,just that he had
downloaded a bunch of things. Could be Jazz.. Dub .. anything really.

Also, I believe that Apple recently met with 100 independant labels in
regards to getting them involved with itunes. I don't think it's been
announced which labels were the 100 that they talked with, so it may
be possible that Independent labels with dance music are available now.

Don't know myself, because they don't let you download vinyl yet... :)

If you are an indepenent label that wishes to be on iTunes, you'll
want to follow this technote:
