For venues try Moog, there's something going on there pretty much every night. The only record store I've been to there was Discos Paradiso. Good stock and they sometimes have instores. RE: (313) New Dance Show info
Before it was called the New Dance Show it was called The Scene. It used to air right after public school ended around 3:00. This gives you an idea of who the shows main audience probably was. It was filmed at Studio 94 (or was it Studio 95?) on Woodward Ave close to the Detroit Amtrak stop. The same spot was a very popular rave venue. These are all of the facts I know. I wish I knew more! I used to watch it a lot when I got home from school. I had no idea what the music was, but liked watching everyone dance. Now I see the show most likely played a large role in my current musical preferences. ;) From: Patrick Wacher [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: list 313 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) New Dance Show info Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2007 22:09:02 -0700 I have been checking out clips of the New Dance Show that aired on Detroit TV in the early 90s. Re: (313) shanghai....any info?
HI fab, I have been there a couple of times for work. I have not found any record shops. The clubs there do not play techno maybe some house music. I think Mike Grant, Laurent Garnier might have played there before but i do not remember which clubs are they. It is just dodgy pubs for tourists but not for music purveryors in Shanghai. There might be an underground music scene there but i have not got in touch with like minded people there yet. Regards Collin - Original Message - From: fab. RE: (313) shanghai....any info?
Yes, It was Club Pegasus and unfortunately I'm told hip-hop is much more prevalent these days. I also played at a spot called Rojam. While that set was more techy the DJ after me came in with a long drum roll and started jumping up and down and waving his arms like 'let's pump it up...' Kevin and Richie has played there before as well. Hey, 313. After much listening, have decided that the grand prize winner in the Andrew Duke--Consumer vs. User remix competition is Hrdvsion. (313) Trying to find info about Members of the House from 1990-1995
Hey everyone, I'm trying to find information, news clippings, old releases, anything relating to the Members of the House. This was a group from 1990-1995, that Mike Banks was the executive producer of, and Jeff Mills was co-producer. There were four front singers, Billy B, Quentin McRae, Randy Paul McKaskill, and Hassan Watkins. I know they toured the UK, but thats about all the info I have. Any assistance would be very helpful. (313) Info for UK crate diggers
Hello UK crate diggers may be interested to know that Avid Records in Oxford is closing down during the next two weeks. It's a massive shop on 3 floors and very reasonably priced. It has a bassment full of electronic music, including loads of stuff that may be of interest to UK listmembers. I just pulled a load of 313 stuff out of there, e.g. Sonic Sunset 2x12, Eddie Fowlkes, Transmat stuff, lots of UR + there's a fair bit of Chi stuff (including quite a few Dancemania bits). There aren't a lot of people in Oxford into this kind of stuff, so it's a good opportunity to get some bargains before the stock gets shipped off to some warehouse. Best, D.

RE: (313) Hartford, Connecticut info
Sorry, getting the message late as usual... Jo already contacted me offline. Hopefully this will help anyone else who finds themselves in Hartford, CT. For what it's worth, I wasn't about to pass on the opportunity to give CT some advertising. I'll apologize in advance for writing a book. Matt is correct, Spiritual Emporium (better known as the Municipal Cafe, aka Muni) is now closed. For those of you who don't know the place, it was a restaurant, an after-hours club, and a record store. It was THE physical center of the techno scene in the area for easily the past 15 years. The building was sold to new owners who are looking to lease the place to a Burger King or Dunkin Donuts or other such chain establishment. The Muni will definitely be missed... Fortunately, it was no big secret that the Muni's days were numbered so a couple of people went out and established events of their own. Having said that, I'll shamelessly support all the events that remain... The new center of our underground electronic universe is shaping up to be a place in Farmington, CT called ZenBar (www.thezenbar.net). It's a very chill lounge out in the suburbs. They serve alcohol so you've got to be over 21 to get in (translation- NO RAVERS). This is the place to go to if you want to hang out and listen to good music without dealing with a barrage of glow sticks on strings or 800 break-dance circles. It's the place for the 25+ crowd to hang out, have a few drinks , and maybe even get on the dance floor for a minute. The event is called We Won't Stop Wednesdays. You guessed it, it's on Wednesday nights. Definitely look out for this venue if you come out this way. There's also a Saturday night house party happening in Old Lyme (about 40 min south of Hartford) featuring residents DJ Donut. Donut is a very solid DJ and producer who has been around for at least 12 years. This night is brand new so I haven't had the chance to go to attend it for myself just yet. I will vouch for the DJs though. Donut and his brother Friddo are very tight. This is the place to go to if you're looking for deep, vocal house. Check the website for details, www.ibrmusic.com. These are the more well known events. I know of a couple of others going on but I don't have all the info about them just yet. I'm planning to post info about local events on the forum in my website so check there if you're interested. What Connecticut lacks in events we seem to make up for with radio shows. Most Nutmeggers (CT residents) are private people who would much rather prefer to party in the privacy of their own living rooms than go out. Hence, there are a bunch of us doing shows on college stations. Mine is on every Monday night from 10:30 to midnight EST on 88.1FM (www.wesufm.org). My last 4 shows are archived on my site, www.antonbanks.com/show.htm. You can also hear James Fusion (www.jamesfusion.com) every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 playing techno and acid techno. He also keeps several of his last shows online. DJ Mike Nyce is on right after him playing deep house from 8:30 to 10:30. OL (formerly of Hillbilly House) is on every other Wednesday night from 7:30 to 10:30 EST on 89.3FM (www.wrtcfm.com). There are a couple of others doing shows on smaller stations but I'm not sure what their schedules are anymore. Lastly, if you're going to be in Hartford, e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'd be happy to show you around. -ant- Vault Radio, CT www.antonbanks.com -Original Message- From: matt kane's brain [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 10, 2005 5:41 PM To: amy z; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) Hartford, Connecticut info At 05:16 PM 6/10/2005, amy z wrote: unfortunatly there's never much 313-related stuff in Hartford... but there is a cool event in New Haven that begins this weekend - the art and ideas festival - http://www.artidea.orgwww.artidea.org plus there's always lots of fun outdoorsy stuff to do here... listmember anton banks has a hartford radio show though. it's worth a listen even though i forget what station it's on. www.antonbanks.com has the answer though! :) -- /* Halley */ (Halley's comment.) matt kane's brain podcast | http://www.hydrogenproject.com | netradio | on-the-air [EMAIL PROTECTED] || AIM: mkbatwerk

(313) monolake album info
i know there's some fans on this list; I'm not one to pass on press releases (especially verbatim), but I just had to share the good news I just got: Monolake polygon_cities Label: Monolake / Imbalance Computer Music Release date: end of June File Under: Electronica/Techno/Ambient-dub/morhping, pulsating soundscapes After 2 years waiting we can proudly announce Berlin-based computer generated music artist MONOLAKE (aka ROBERT HENKE) with his 2005 masterpiece album polygon_cities. It is a journey into morhping, pulsating soundscapes and into permutative repetition, the elements which define the signature style of Monolake. Well, nothing else needs to be said, momentum of sonic brilliance! MONOLAKE 1995 - 2005 Ten years of music polygon_cities will be presented at the MUTEK festival in Montreal in June, more North American tour dates are planned for September OVERVIEW: polygon_cities is techno music beyond the standard grooves and sounds usually found in this genre. polygon_cities not only works on the dancefloor but also offers an abundance of composed and carefully placed details, which will reveal successively when listen to the tracks more often. polygon_cities is music for several degrees of attention. It is a journey into morhping, pulsating soundscapes and into permutative repetition, the elements which define the signature style of Monolake. Fascination for technology, a sense of coldness and danger, a romantic escape, but also warmth, and euphoria, these are emotions we superimposed on the tracks, using and abusing the power of music. The CD closes with a clear homage to the dancefloor, Plumbicon and leaves the listener in a good mood, ready to enjoy and explore the world, even if it is covered with observation cameras [CCTV“], or strange machinery [Invisible]. MONOLAKE 1995 - 2005: Ten years of music: MONOLAKE is an open project dedicated to computer generated music, founded in 1995 by ROBERT HENKE AND GERHARD BEHLES. They were impressed and influenced by minimal techno music and drumbass and at the same discovered the sonic richness and sophistication of accademic computer music. These poles became the source and inspiration for their own creations. The first releases on the highly acclaimed Berlin techno label Chain Reaction, an offspring of Basic Channel, brought MONOLAKE some public attention. Due to their involvement with the Elektronische Studio der Technischen Universitat Berlin they also had the chance to do comissioned works for occations like 50 years of music concrete and numerous other projects. The first Album from 1997, titled Hongkong, combined processed environmental sounds captured during the International Computer Music Conferernce 1996 in Hong Kong with synthesized timbres. It became the blueprint for a specific MONOLAKE style which is often permutating complex rhythmical structures interacting with rich textural elements, providing depth and color. The second album, Interstate, released 1999 became the first release on ROBERT HENKES own label, [ml/i] . While the music on Hongkong was still very much influenced by minimal techno and dub, Interstate was significantly more complex and more orientated towards micro-editing of sonic particles. This detailed manipulation of sound was possible due to self written software, realised in Max/MSP, which allowed them to create textures and rhythmical gestures impossible to achive elsewise. Gobi. The desert, a 34 mintue epic track from 1999 was completly done in their own software, mostly Max/MSP but also with the beta version of Native Instruments Reaktor, since GERHARD BEHLES wrote the sampling and re-synthesis part of it. A bit later he started his own software company, Ableton. The third album, Gravity, released 2000, brought the focus back towards dance music and the dark, noisy and atmospheric pieces exposed there made MONOLAKE an often requested live performer in clubs. Cinemascope, 2002, stood in retrospect for a time of unsecurity, both personel and in a general musical context. It contains a variety of different pieces, but lacks the coherence of the earlier works. After 2000, everyone involved in electronic club music seemed to search for new ways of expression. Techno was nearly dead and technology had nothing new to offer as a compensation for the lack of inspiration. Cinemascope also stood for a period of significant changes in production. A typical MONOLAKE track created by GERHARD BEHLES and ROBERT HENKE was the result of setting up a system of software and hardware which allowed to use the studio as a real time instrument and perform with it. The results were endless recording sessions, later edited into pieces. This kind of workflow did not fit anymore when working alone. The production process and environment had to be re-thought. While producing Cinmeascope the studio changed every day, and every setup seemed to be inappropriate. At the end ROBERT HENKE took everything apart,

This info may not be completely accurate because from what I understand, the Music Gallery at 49 ann st is no longer throwing public parties as of recently. I know this because our bi-monthly party we've been having at the Music Gallery has been moved to a new loft space at 69 w14 st, and I've been told that this will be the case with all scheduled 49 ann st. events. Which isn't completely bad since the new space is much bigger and nicer, and probably more suitable for someone like Gerald. brian www.rsso.net

I'm not complaining at ALL, but this is a lot of action for Chicago. oh yeah and (no kidding) Farley was on a major market radio station last friday night for a classics mix. I was like woaah. Usually it's someone like Ralphie Rosario or Kenny 'Jammin' Jason, but i'd never heard Farley live on air before... not since the 80's anyway. just caught the tail end of it in the car, i think it ended at midnight, i caught Sharon Redd - Beat the Street... and cranked the volume way up. I haven't been on DHP in forever, but i bet some people there trainspotted it? I bet someone probably recorded it, in fact... knowing those fiends. -- Matt MacQueen http://sonicsunset.com

(313) Phoniq Event #4 - Oct29 / Event Info, Press Release, Bios
*EVENT INFORMATION - PHONIQ#4 Black Market [g25/Bumpy] Ensemble Camp [No Type] Argon Floozy [Panospria] +DJ Khanfucius Vendredi, 29 Octobre La Salle D'Attente / Esperanza 5490 boul St-Laurent 21h - 5$ http://www.phoniq.net/ *PRESS RELEASE The Phoniq collective brings you the fourth in our ongoing series of live electronic music events. Each of these events are designed to act as an exploration into the different intersections between technology and music/art making. This particular evening will showcase experimental music by some notable local artists in various genres. Phoniq is proud to present the premiere of Argon Floozy, the latest group project of the Panospria collective who will be starting the show off with their dark ambient dub quartet. No Type label heads David Turgeon Aimé Dontigny will then be mixing up fractured beats and warped textures as Ensemble Camp, their ongoing project for prepared CDs. Topping the night off and pushing the tempo way up will be the hyperactive drill n' bass stylings of the notorious Black Market. *BIOS/INFO PHONIQ [www.phoniq.net] Phoniq is a collective of individuals dedicated to promoting bleeding edge electronic music/art in interesting variable environments, with an emphasis on exposing aural and visual talent that has not yet been exposed to the electronic arts communities of Montreal and Canada. We aim to showcase upstart music producers, DJs, and emerging visual artists all working in electronic realms. Our foremost goal is to showcase off the wall and raw genres of music and visual electronic arts- not just those that are currently en vogue or will be shortly. The concept for Phoniq came together through the chance meeting of 2 active members of the Montreal/Canadian electronic music and digital arts community: CKUT-FM DJ/host Cyan and dub glitch techno producer NAW. Phoniq has grown out of the combined histories of these 2 individuals. NAW brings the Clonk legacy that he created 6 years ago in Toronto, which hosted such artists as: Monolake, Kit Clayton and Sutekh. Cyan brings her ongoing involvement in community radio, event coordinating and DJ talents. Since then the collective has grown to include 5 core members responsible for keeping things running. After a short 6 months phoniq has grown from an idea of how can we create a viable promotional vehicle for Canadian electronic artists, into a music series, an active community mailing list/community forum, and in the coming months Phoniq will relaunch its site designed to act as a portal resource for the Canadian electronic music community which will include a net-label. BLACK MARKET [g25 Productions / Bumpy Records] Black Market adamantly denies these allegations, dismissing them as rumours and hearsay. This form of character-assassination should not be tolerated in the experimental drum n' bass community. For the record he is releasing two different albums later this year on two different small American labels, and he has never even *met* the President's daughters. ENSEMBLE CAMP [No Type Records] Ensemble Camp is a variable-sized ensemble performing works written or arranged specifically for the CD player medium. In the past, Ensemble Camp has performed in Saskatoon, in France of course on various occasions in Montreal. Its core members are David Turgeon Aimé Dontigny but on occasion the group has included Jon Vaughn, Érick D'Orion, Christophe Havard. ARGON FLOOZY [Panospria Records] On this evening, members of the Panospria collective will unveil Argon Floozy, their latest group project since Kokoro No Jojishi in 2003. For this performance the band will feature Shane Turner, John Brennan, Anthony Wilson and Tomas Matthews, who will construct and manipulate a sonic whirlpool of deep, moody music.

I have it on good authority that the first record of this nature to land in Manchester was Chip E Like This. That was late '86. 4 copies apparently. The first 'house' record to blow the whole thing up in Manchester was Adonis No Way Back. Apparently that's the one that kicked everything off. There were 6 copies in Manchester at first and it took nearly 4 weeks to get some more, after that they did around 300 copies out of one shop (on the black label press fact fans)! This was in '87. Apparently at this time they were still pretty much playing loads of different stuff down there, the house music was interspersed with alot of other stuff. Hip Hop etc. Mike Pickering started his 'new'night (didn't ask if that was hot or nude or whatever) in '87 at some point. Also the kids wanting the house music early on were the Black kids apparently. In search of a different sound more than anything I'm told, to play with the other stuff big on that scene at the time. Think this came from them all dancing down the Gallery and Legends... Predominantly Black music clubs I'm told. I presume Greg Wilson was the dj at these joints. But don't know Also it's worth noting that alot of the original Chi stuff never really got here. Persona stuff etc in particular. Don't know if anywhere in London/Brum/Sheffield/Glasgow or anywhere like that was getting them. Back to my hideyhole. No I wouldn't say its 100%. I mean I still like techno : ) But as a music that is African in its roots theres not many African decendants listening to it. Go to a techno night and look around. It's clear to see. As an example, my group of friends at the time 87 was made up of some White, Afro-Carribean, Mixed Race/Heritage, Indian, a Brazilian, a typical inner city bunch from Chapeltown Leeds. We used party to Rare Groove, Funk, Reggae, Hip Hop. There many other such possees from other part of Leeds eg Woodhouse. Then came this early house out of Chicago playing in a couple of mid week clubs, we didn't even know how to dance to it !!. What is Jackin' The Warehouse, a club with then a wide music policy started to incoorparate these new sounds and it simply blew up. But these inner city possees moved away from the very scene they developed. But why ??? Here's my take.. Well it became cheese, overcommercial, uncool, piano house and divas, songs like 'Id rather Jack than Fleetwood Mac'. Yea there there was still good house and techno to be found but people just dissassociated with it and quickly moved on, comments like 'that's what white people dance to' 'drug music'. I cant help thinking if some of the original artists had photos of themselves on album sleeves how much different things might have been. (See Hip Hop) Must get back to work... There's some stuff on the early music policy/nights at the Hacienda written down in the '24hr party people - Tony H. Wilson' book... It's quite fun to read about the student nights at the Hac going off like a rocket on cheap lager and indie music and the nights that Pickering was playing it was dead quiet with only 10 peeps around or so untill he picked up some records suchs as no way back and it slowley turned around.. (313) F.K Info
Someone on the DeepHousePage asked Francois Kevorkian to provide some info about his early dj spots before his prelude days etc. Anyway, I found it quite interesting, and thought some here might like to read. It wasn't covered in Love Saves The Day So here it is: Got started in early '77 at Experiment 4 (where I was primarily cleaning, doing the coat check and whatever else), and subbing for Jellybean here and there, although not for long. During that time, won several DJ contests held at G.G. Knickerboker, a famous drag-queen place (formerly Hollywood) where I got noticed by some enterprising promoters who had something called 'Chase Galleries' (James Rice and Greg) who got me to play for them at Buttermilk Bottom. In the Summer of 77, Chase Galleries put together a fierce weekly event called 'Sesame Street' which took place at THE FLAMINGO, hallowed ground for all that was gay and (mostly) white, but since they all went to Fire Island during the Summer, we were able to have parties there until mid-September. This was at the same time The Garage was about to begin its 'construction parties'. They were so successful that they then managed to rent a midtwon ballroom on West 43rd street at (? The Diplomat Hotel?) which was big enough for 2000 people. Within 3 weeks, this turned into a very nasty scene there, with strongarm Italian types demanding 'protection', and I was out of there. (returned the favor to Jellybean and gave him that gig) Got a regular gig doing the Saturday nights (quickly turned into a 5-nights-a-week thing) at New York, New York, which although wasn't that great compared to the vibrant downtown crowd, paid the bills and kept a roof over my head. That's about it I am not sure how much more of this type of questions I can answer, I sadly don't have that much time to do it in detail, and it'll all be available when I (finally) make my site public. It does take time to compile a lot of this info, which I am in the process of doing right now. Peace and Gabber. Re: (313) steve poindexter track info
the vinyl release of chaotic nation is crap quality. i doubt buying a copy of the vinly or getting another recording would get you a better quality file than the mp3 you have. i'venever heard of any cd release. james www.jbucknell.com /0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] mi.netTo 313@hyperreal.org 25/04/04 11:44 PM cc Subject (313) steve poindexter track info I have this mp3 that I want to start adding to mixes (I use a laptop and a midi controller with traktor) called: Steve Poindexter - Chaotic Nation EP - A3 - Mental Problems (bonus track), 1991 Chicago Underground Reco.mp3 is this on CD anywhere? I'd like to replace my MP3 with a (hopefully) better quality one, and without a turntable, my only hope would be to find it on CD. if I cant find it on CD, I will resort to begging listmembers with the record to rip me a good copy and I guess I'll deal (or get dealt with :) by steve poindexter later :) besides, something tells me the vinyl would be both hard to find and expensive that being said, if anyone has a turntable for sale cheap (just for listening, not DJing) let me know I cant see spending 350 on a 1200 to rip the odd vinyl-only releases to my laptop -Joe ForwardSourceID:NTB7FE

(313) music info utilities
Resending below as it didn't seem to take the first time (guess due to what the server acting weird thread posts are saying): Folks Can anyone give me information on sites that are useful for searching for discographies? I know of Discogs but maybe they are more house / techno based as I was searching for info on Creative Source (70s soul / funk) (not 313 I know but I'm sure info about such sites would be useful to list members), trying to find which of their albums their single You Can't Hide Love was from but couldn't. Any suggestions for similar sites with a wider range of info? Francis
Re: (313) music info utilities
