Re: Designer Password Question

2021-01-18 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
The problem with that approach is many fold. First if something happens to
users and groups and admin becomes bad you will be stuck. If you are going to
follow that path, I would create another use by duplicating administrator and
use that one

Re: Designer Password Question

2021-01-17 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
I don’t think so. I think the only person who can change designer password is
designer.

The only option would be to recreate structured and then move forms and methods
over

Re: Auto numbering method acting weirdly. Help needed

2020-07-22 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
I don’t see anything that jumps out at me, but. How about tracing to see what
is happening?

Also if this is a multi user db. There could be failures

You could also do this
c_longint($FolderNo_L)
c_text($Prefix)
$Prefix:=[Repertoire]Folder prefix
Begin sql
select MAX([Repertoire].[Folder number]).
primary key of that table
from
[Repertoire]
where
[Repertoire].[Folder prefix] = :$Prefix
into
:$FolderNo_L,
:$Key
end sql
if ($Key = key of my record)
else

end if

Hope this helps

An array works but I would use a blob field if in an older version of 4D as

You could also use json

Re: IP address problem

2020-06-04 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
OK I guess some more info may help. It seems that if I have a server that I run
at client with their IP address scheme and then run same structure on server in
my office it shows as broadcasting on more than one IP address. So the question
now is where does 4D get IP address to show on the server admin window? I think
this might be part of the problem. I am going to post this on the new forum as
well with some screen shots

IP address problem

2020-06-03 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

We have a built Client server v 16.x running on a MAC

Network set up is
DHCP with manual address

This has been working till about 6n months ago.

The hospital seems to test power outages on fairly regular basis. When they do
change over to emergency power

The network pane in system preferences loses all except the IP address and her
we go

The 4D server running starts listening on a different IP address. Has anyone
ever seen this before. Tech support is telling me to switch to manual address.

I have run and used this setup at many other customers

Thanks and regards

Chuck

Yes that is true, Another way would be to select file you can even do multiple
files at a time this way and the array returned form the command contains the
full path to the documents selected. You can even decide what type of files are
acceptable

Re: FTP_DELETE

2020-05-26 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
It would seem to me your lop structure is flawed.

It should be
FTP Login
FTP_GetDirList
repeat
//select which file from list
ftp_getFileInfo
ftp_receive
ftp_delete
until
frp_loguot

Viewing PDF documents on windows

2020-05-19 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

environment 4D v15.6

I have a form that displays pdf document in a web area on windows. This part
works as it should. What is weird is the file once displayed is locked. Is
there any trick to get it to display in read only so I can not delete the file.

The following is the code:

C_TEXT($Deleted_txt)
$Deleted_txt:="File named
"+RatingRPTBDEPTFolder_txt+MatchedDocuments_atxt{MatchedDocuments_atxt}+" will
be deleted"
C_TEXT($file_txt)

Case of
: (Folder separator=":")
WA SET PAGE
CONTENT(*;"ExistingRatingReport_MAC";""+$Deleted_txt+"";"file:///")
Else
WA SET PAGE
CONTENT(*;"ExistingRatingReport_WIN";""+$Deleted_txt+"";"file:///")
End case
DELETE
DOCUMENT(RatingRPTBDEPTFolder_txt+MatchedDocuments_atxt{MatchedDocuments_atxt})

Thanks and regards

Chuck

Re: Opinion

2020-04-24 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
First, I would not use windows 7 at all. I would move to windows 10

Second here are some potential ares of concern that you will need to deal with

1. Are there any sub-tables. If so I would recommend creating new tables and
moving data in v 15

2. There are probably obsolete pictures in the db. You can use JPRs component
in 16 (32 bit mode)

3. I would also not use the built in primary key stuff, but would add a UUID to
each table and table that the primary key. I have previously posted code I
have used to create these. You need to create these with an empty data file.
When you open an existing data file, all of these keys should be populated
automatically. If not I have code that will check and make sure that all
records have UUIDs.

4. I would also run tools on structure air each in 12 and then at each step up
to a newer version

Others may tell you that you can use an existing unique key in a table for
this. I would not, as these are used only for journaling. I would not want to
make a UUID key on a one table that was used in a many table as the link. I
would keep all my other long ints for that.

Chuck

Re: Longitude Index: B-Tree or Cluster

2020-04-14 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Sure you hash and stir that, when searching for a particular lat/long
combination you has entry and search

This will not help in distance calculations

How about this for a create a concatenated key that has two parts for each

Named LatKey
Lat_before decimal
Lat_after decimal

LongKey
Long_before decimal
long_after decimal

do queries
and process using fields that contain the entire lat and long as a real

You could use a hash and store it. I have a sequence that is too long to query
and that is what I did works like a charm.

Re: Longitude Index: B-Tree or Cluster

2020-04-12 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Cluster is meant when there are many duplicates. To do queries I would make a
duplicate field and use a string conversion or a long code version. and not a
real. Reals in my opinion are the slowest when it comes to queries. Or
manipulation

Re: Image Export Issues

2020-04-02 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Remember why was stated. Launch a process. Do something like this
$CurrentNumber_L:=start
repeat

Launch new process($CurrentNumber_L)
wait til new process completes
$CurrentNumber_L:=$CurrentNumber_L+50

until (end)

The new process will export 50 pictures_

This method probably will clear memory issues when new process ends

Re: Image Export Issues

2020-04-01 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
One I would at list upgrade to 15.6

Two I would try using an older O/S I would bet 15 does not run well on version
you listed. I use 10.12 in a VM

Three I would bet it is a memory issue

Why are you using the document command. Have you created the document first.

I assume each picture is in it’s own document. If so I think you can just pass
the path in and not use Document. You would have HD:folder:Filename.jpg or
whatever

I might also test file size and if 0 skip it. I wrote code to export many more
pictures than that and found I had to do it in stages. We also had to convert
image types as our data was old. If you want I can send you that code privately
(If I can find it)

alter table and primary keys

I have a customers structure that has fields (Longint) named ID set as the
primary key for each table.

This is a structure I took over. We are trying to upgrade to v17.4 now since
the keys are set as primary and there is a foreign field definition related I
can not do the following as I get errors. The errors I get are
The list of foreign key constraints is not empty for table: Constants of
database: JakeCH-WUUID
Cannot alter primary key definition of table Constants
Failed to execute ALTER TABLE command.

I do not went to have to undraw and redraw every relationship line to make this
work. Since when do you have a foreign key that can only relate to a primary key

ALTER TABLE [Constants] ADD [Constants_UUIDKey_s] UUID AUTO_GENERATE

catalina and 4D

2020-01-13 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

I have new laptop that I bought without thinking too hard. It only tuns
Catalina. I am trying to run v17.3 and have some issues. Is anyone using
catalina and if so what might I do to fix the slowness I am seeing. Should I be
using an R release and if so which one

Thanks and regards

creating csv files

2019-11-06 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

I am successfully creating csv files with one expection. Occasionally, I will
have a column created from a text field, that looks like a number. For example
6108900015297 Most other data does not look like that there could be letters,
dashes, etc part if customer PO number. When I open the document this item as
well as others like it come in as scientific notation. Can anyone advise how I
might stop that from happening

This is the code I am using. Indeed when you open with text editor the data
looks correct. It is only when opened by excel where it looks like this
6.1089E+12
instead of
6108900015297

$line_txt:=$line_txt+Char(Double quote)+Replace
string($arr_ptr->{$Rows_L};Char(Double quote);Char(Double quote)+Char(Double
quote))+Char(Double quote)

[solution] printing PDFs on windows from 4D

2019-10-30 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All

There is a program named PDFtoPrinter.exe which I am using to print PDFs on
windows from cmd using LEP form inside 4D

If the files desired do not print correctly, you will need to download PDF
Exchange and print PDF form there. When it prints and is sized correctly, you
will need to export the setting and place the file named PDF-XChange Viewer
Settings.dat in the same folder you have placed PDFtoPrinter.exe. I found it at
http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/pdftoprinter.html

Please note that it is a wrapper for PDF exchange

Hope this helps someone else

combining pdfs on windows

2019-10-23 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

We are using PDF tool kit to combine pdfs via 4D on windows machines. It is
working OK but was wondering if there was any native way to do this without 3rd
[arty software. We have PDF 1 which is printed as a PDF from 4D and PDF 2
which is stored on a files server, which is an enterable PDF. We create PDF 1,
then combine with PDF 2 and email the resultant PDF.

Thanks and regards

Chuck

In my opinion everyone should be using a built client server. More control and

How do you create a enhancement request on forum

2019-10-04 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,

I want to create the following enhancement request to the forum and am not sure

In the 4D link file I want to allow for more than one Ip address connection. If
there is more than one I would like to have the ability to set as cascade,
which means try first one, then next etc.

If set to user selection, I would like 4D to give user a choice regarding which
to connect to,

This would really help in a situation where you had a mirror and the production
server becomes unavailable. When connecting the client would try production and
if no available would then try the next one in line

Regards

Re: Prevent Client from Sleeping

2019-08-07 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
The question is to why. I would think you just want to stop the drive from
spinning down. Most companies hate when you do that as they want computer to
lock after as short period of inactivity

On Mac there is a setting to stop drive from spinning down. I bet there is on
windows as well

pointer issue

2019-08-07 Thread Chuck Miller via 4D_Tech
Hi All,
The following fails
$MetalAmount_ptr:=Get pointer("$MetalAmount_"+String($MetalPos_L)+"_aR")
$MetalAmount_ptr->{$Loop_L}:=$metalFactors_aR{$InnerLoop_L}

When I changed arrays to process
$MetalAmount_ptr:=Get pointer("MetalAmount_"+String($MetalPos_L)+"_aR")
$MetalAmount_ptr->{$Loop_L}:=$metalFactors_aR{$InnerLoop_L}

It seems even in the same method you can not have a pointer to a local array. I
am not sure as to why. Any insight would be appreciated, as I know you can pass
a pointer to local (i.e. $) array form method 1 to method 2 and that works. I
would guess I could write a method but that seems kind of a worth around

Thanks and regards
