[AI] Increase in exemption limit in Income tax for visually challenged persons with severe disability.

2011-11-26 Thread Madhav kumar
Sub: Increase in exemption limit in Income tax for visually challenged
persons with severe disability.

Dear Sir,

It is very sad to state that with rising inflation, the exemption limit for
Visually challenged in Income tax act is still only limited to Rs 100,000
under section 80 U. Thus there is net saving of only 10,000 p.a for a blind
person. *This means merely Rs. 833.33 per month is available extra to a
blind person which in insufficient with rising inflation and transport
cost. A blind person has to spend double the amount in transportation and
other day to day activities. *

*It is therefore proposed to increase the exemption limit for blind person
upto 5 lacs in lines with senior citizen above 80 years. *

Subject: [AI] Interesting Read - Indian Girls Become the Guinea Pigs
forWestern Cos

Hello Members,

Although this article is not related to the group or anything to do with
blindness or it's support, I felt it worth sharing with you all to build
awareness of what is happening with our country and giant pharma companies
in Europe and around the world.

Indian Girls Become the Guinea Pigs for Western Companies

Bangalore: In what could be seen as a new form of colonialism, India
becomes the new testing ground for drugs for American, British and
European pharmaceutical
firms and according to a report on the 'Independent', between 2007 and
2010, at least 1,730 people died in India while, or after, participating
in such

trials.

In an apparent show of the Western mode of exploitation, these
multinational companies have been making the most of India's huge
population and loose regulations
in this regard over the last five years by which they manage to
drastically cut short their expenses on research for these lucrative
products which are

to be sold in the West.

Ever since the restrictions on drug trials were relaxed in India, the
industry has grown to a point where more than 150,000 people are involved
in at least
1,600 clinical trials for the Western firms like Pfizer, AstraZeneca and
Merck. Although no official data is available on the size of this
exploitative
industry, it is estimated to be worth as much as 189 million pounds. While
the many on whom the trials were done, may have been only eligible for the
studies
as they were ill, the following complications, even resulting in death,
are often not properly investigated.

While it is said that the crucial trials were carried out following
appropriate guidelines, the report says the lack of oversight have
resulted in a situation
where poor and often illiterate individuals, picked from the tribal areas
or city slums are used for the critical trials without obtaining proper
informed
consent which means they have apparently agreed to the trials without
fully understanding what they are signing up for. At the shadow of this
inhuman practice
of drug trials on humans, a new industry has been spawned making
significant profits by providing participants for these studies.

An investigation by 'The Independent' in the Indian states of Madhya
Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, as well as in Delhi and in London shows that
hundreds of
Indian tribal girls were recruited without proper parental consent for an
immunization study sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
shockingly
just on the node of the government hostel's warden. Several girls have
reportedly killed and the controversial study was stopped by the federal
authorities.
The investigation also found the use by drug companies of survivors of the
Bhopal tragedy, world's worst poisonous gas disaster, as 'guinea pigs' in
at
least 11 trials without proper informed consent. In another shocking
finding, many cases of drug trials were reported at a government hospital
in Indore

of which 81 cases of adverse effects were reported.

India is just one of those many developing countries being exploited for
its large, ignorant and illiterate tribals by the Western pharmaceutical
giants
who spent over 40 billion pounds last year on research and development.
It's said that over 120,000 trials are taking place in 178 countries and
the companies
can reportedly reduce up to 60 percent of their spending on research
through outsourcing the works to these third world countries. The article
also reveals
that a quarter of all clinical data submitted to European drug regulators
for approval are obtained from trials in low- and middle-income countries.

Re: [AI] Relaxation of scribe norms for IBPS exam

2011-11-26 Thread sachu ramalingam
Dear All,

Here is further information for all the aspirants which I request you all
to further cerculate to the candidates appearing for the exam.

1, IBPS has absolutely agreed not to disqualify any scribe on the basis of
percentage of marks.
2. Since the nitification may not reach every one in time, they have set up
a HELP LINE for any clarifications, even the exam centres may be requested
to call these helpline and please themselves if they have any doubt over
the issue.

HLPLINE NUMBERS ARE:
29687000, 29687250, 29687249

THESE NUMBERS ARE GIVEN BY DR. KONARK, IBPS itself.

Kudos to Pallavi Kadam and Ramkrishna who left no stone unturned to get
this huge hurdle out of the way for the visually impaired.

All the best for those appearing for the exam tomorrow.

HIRING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Dear friend,

Greetings from Wipro.

You may be aware that Wipro is an equal opportunities employer. This
means that we select employees solely on the basis of their
qualifications and competencies, and without bias due to their race,
color, religion, national origin, citizenship, age, sex, marital
status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition,
socio-economic background or sexual orientation. Recognizing that
people belonging to marginalized sections of society may sometimes not
have an equal platform to perform in, we take conscious efforts to
provide such a platform – an inclusive environment.
With this approach, we have undertaken the following measures to
create an inclusive workplace for ‘persons with disabilities’:
 - An equal opportunity policy including reasonable accommodation
(adjustment) policy and a framework for its implementation;
-   Modifications to our campuses to make it accessible as far as possible;
- Specific measures to make our recruitment and training procedures
inclusive and
- Programs for creating awareness among employees on diversity and
equal opportunity
We believe that such an inclusive environment would not just provide
employment to persons with disabilities, but to encourage them to
build meaningful, long term careers with us.

We are organising a special recruitment event for persons with
disabilities who are graduates / Diploma with minimum 50% marks in 10,
12th graduation.

Resumes need to be mailed across to
walkin.care...@wipro.commailto:walkin.care...@wipro.com mentioning
the skill set on the subject line

Resumes will be screened and eligible candidates will be called for a
walk-in interview on the 3rd of December. Venue details will be shared
during the screening process.

Skills which we are targeting are –

1.WINTEL-Server

2.Network

3.Backup and Storage

4.Security

5.Helpdesk Co-ordinator

6.Tele – sales

Job Location – Mysore, Bangalore Chennai

We request you to please spread this information among candidates with
disabilities and to all your staff members and faculty to enable them
to also refer qualified people with disabilities for this recruitment
event.

We look forward to your support in making this inclusivity program
successful by spreading awareness about our recruitment event and
helping us build a long term program of engaging candidates with
disabilities.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm regards,
Nagababu.J

Re: [AI] audio device not working

2011-11-26 Thread prateek aggarwal
Dear umesha,
Right, so the root cause for the issue has been pinpointed.
Believe it or not, people using atheros wi fi adapters are some of
the most frequent complainants of such types of cases.
Athero is cheaper than some of its major competitors, hence many
companies are preferring their hardware in their machines.

The wiggly red lines that you are seeing are definetly because of the
high latency that its experiencing.
Technically, that means that the wi fi adapter is taking more
resources than it should actually take.
in regards of solutions,
there does not seem a complete rectification of this problem, however
driver update can be of some help.
Try updating the drivers for your athero’s wi fi device and see if it
makes a difference.
As per my recent observation, athero has not been updating their
drivers for windows xp and most of their latest drivers claims to work
well with vista or windows 7.
However, its worth keeping yours to the latest possible, of course the
one that’s compatible with your operating system.

If that doesn’t work, try reaching to lenovo technical support and
telling them the problem.
You basically have to inquire if its possible to change the hardware
under your sales term.
It has been seen that these companies have made their legal policies
smart enough to save themselves from any possible hazard. Especially
in the case of devices and their compatibility with various operating
system.
Someone on the thread has said that a dos based machine means that
its compatible with any operating system, but I remind of a judgement
given in united states sometime back where it was said that a dos
based machine means that the company has not particularly tested the
machine with different operating systems, hence it would not be
responsible for any hardware compatibility issues.
Legally, whole claim for the compatibility is being smartly averted to
the device manufacturers.

Though you’ve been condemning to use windows7, but I would still
like to advice that please give it a try at least.
Not just to get acquainted with it, but more importantly to find out
the performance of your audio and wi fi devices with that and check if
a driver update helps there instead.
For your information, windows 7 has an xp mode, which pretty much
brings your old days back.
Also, there are other fantastic programs like classic shell etc
which restores your xp experience to quite an extent.

Like it or not, not all the latest devices have enough support
available for windows xp now, and the reason behind this is
Microsoft policies where they have deliberately promoted vista and
windows7 over xp from past few years.
It has been already announced that the support for windows xp would
no longer be available after 2014, so I personally find this a wise
decision to upgrade the OS, specially if its causing issues to make
compatibility with latest hardware devices.
Oh and some of you guys have written to me off the list to ask my
contact number.
Those would like to get in touch with me through phone would like to note, its:

Hope this helps.

said that you bought your laptop only 3 days earlier. But in the last
message you said that you restored your machine to November 15th. How
is it possible? Is your system clock not correct?

 To prateek aggarwal,
Yes sir. It is due to Audio latency. I downloaded DPC Latency Checker
 from the following link:
 http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
When I first ran it on the system, I got all the red bars on the graph
even while there is no sound problem. The latency was varying for
every 2-3 seconds from about 2500 micro seconds to 12500 or 13500
micro seconds. While the sound problem was present, the bars touched
the sealing of the chart. The latency was recorded in the range of
15 to 30 micro seconds. Some times it even went up to 70
micro seconds. Surprisingly, even when I disabled my realtek
soundcard, I got the red bars of same height. Next I suspected network
cards. The moment I disabled my wifi card, it dropped to very low in
the green region (125 micro seconds). If I re-enable the wifi card,
the next second again I got the same red bars. One more thing I like
to tell you, if I enable wifi device and turn on it using the switch
provided on the laptop, it substantially drops but not to green
region. Then I get alternating 2-3 yellow bars (about 1200 micro
seconds) and 1 or 2 red

 Hello Members,

Although this article is not related to the group or anything to do with
blindness or it's support, I felt it worth sharing with you all to build
awareness of what is happening with our country and giant pharma companies
in Europe and around the world.

Indian Girls Become the Guinea Pigs for Western Companies

Bangalore: In what could be seen as a new form of colonialism, India becomes
the new testing ground for drugs for American, British and European
 pharmaceutical
firms and according to a report on the 'Independent', between 2007 and 2010,
at least 1,730 people died in India while, or after, participating in such
 trials.

In an apparent show of the Western mode of exploitation, these multinational
companies have been making the most of India's huge population and loose
 regulations
in this regard over the last five years by which they manage to drastically
cut short their expenses on research for these lucrative products which are
to be sold in the West.

Ever since the restrictions on drug trials were relaxed in India, the
industry has grown to a point where more than 150,000 people are involved in
 at least
1,600 clinical trials for the Western firms like Pfizer, AstraZeneca and
Merck. Although no official data is available on the size of this
 exploitative
industry, it is estimated to be worth as much as 189 million pounds. While
the many on whom the trials were done, may have been only eligible for the
 studies
as they were ill, the following complications, even resulting in death, are
 often not properly investigated.

While it is said that the crucial trials were carried out following
appropriate guidelines, the report says the lack of oversight have resulted
 in a situation
where poor and often illiterate individuals, picked from the tribal areas or
city slums are used for the critical trials without obtaining proper
 informed
consent which means they have apparently agreed to the trials without fully
understanding what they are signing up for. At the shadow of this inhuman
 practice
of drug trials on humans, a new industry has been spawned making significant
profits by providing participants for these studies.

The investigation also found the use by drug companies of survivors of the
Bhopal tragedy, world's worst poisonous gas disaster, as 'guinea pigs' in at
least 11 trials without proper informed consent. In another shocking
finding, many cases of drug trials were reported at a government hospital in
 Indore
of which 81 cases of adverse effects were reported.

India is just one of those many developing countries being exploited for its
large, ignorant and illiterate tribals by the Western pharmaceutical giants
who spent over 40 billion pounds last year on research and development. It's
said that over 120,000 trials are taking place in 178 countries and the
 companies
can reportedly reduce up to 60 percent of their spending on research through
outsourcing the works to these third world countries. The article also
 reveals
that a quarter of all clinical data submitted to European drug regulators
for approval are obtained from trials in low- and middle-income countries.

Re: [AI] FW: Article

2011-11-26 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Such a thing should be strongly condemned.
There are so many people who are completely normal, but are still
totally worthless.
The sad thing is that we all have friends and/or relatives who think
in this manner about visually impaired people.
With our hard work and determination, we might be able to change
people's perception about us, but it's very difficult to change their
perception about visually impaired people in general.
In India, even the word 'blind' is considered to be an abusive word,
so this is nothing compared to that.
Sorry for sounding so negative, but, unfortunately, that's the truth.

Re: [AI] audio device not working

2011-11-26 Thread Umesha S E
Sir I did not understand the following lines.
Not just to get acquainted with it, but more importantly to find out
the performance of your audio and wi fi devices with that and check if
a driver update helps there instead.

one more thing regarding driver compatibility. lenovo has hosted the
drivers on its site for windows xp. doesnt it justify our claim that
those drivers should be compatible with the operating system for which
they are said to be so and function correctly?

Those would like to get in touch with me through phone would like to note,

Isn't the current exemption limit up to 50,000?

Dear Sir,

It is very sad to state that with rising inflation, the exemption limit
for
Visually challenged in Income tax act is still only limited to Rs
100,000

under section 80 U. Thus there is net saving of only 10,000 p.a for a
blind
person. *This means merely Rs. 833.33 per month is available extra to a
blind person which in insufficient with rising inflation and transport
cost. A blind person has to spend double the amount in transportation
and
other day to day activities. *

*It is therefore proposed to increase the exemption limit for blind
person
upto 5 lacs in lines with senior citizen above 80 years. *
