Well Hi dear Bijal, Cooking involved a lot of tips and tricks. I my self cook daily as far as cooking is concern mostly 2 times a day in the morning that is Tiffin's for office and then at night which is extensive cooking. well as far as rice is concern, you can cook it in the pressure cooker or a electric rice cooker. or in a normal pot as well. same with dal mostly first boil in the pressure cooker. then we can cook it in a pot as well. as far as vegetable is concern use pots or pans instead. the method which I use to keep any type of vessel on the gas is that. first its like this. most of these things will only come out of practice. however hard I will try to explain to you it will not be as effective as you practicing it. well so its time and practice. what you can do that. at first tell mom at I will make one dish per day. start from something simple. keep the fear out of your mind that I will get burnt or something will happen to me. be confident that I will do it. keep the ingredient of what ever you want to make ready before hand in front of you I mean near you as your hand can reach to grab it easily to put it in the vessel to cook. as you will not have much time once the gas is on to go and find it so you have to know the lay out of your kitchen very perfectly. then before lighting the gas feel it and touch it just when its empty feel the distance between you and the gas very perfectly. practice keeping the empty vessel on the off gas many times may be 10 times or so. and then now light the gas and keep the vessel in the same way. Normally I use my right hand to on the gas I mean to turn the knob of the gas on and the left hand for pressing the button of the lighter. once its on I just keep the lighter on its place and keep the vessel on the gas to get hot with my left hand it self. mean while with the right hand I grab oil and other ingredients and bring them in front of me and start to put one by one as its turn comes. that will happen with you once you can find out from your mom that when to put what and may be she may have some sequences for you. at first you can also practice like your mom standing with you and giving you things one by one to put. you only do the putting and cooking. that will first make you confident in cooking and then you can practice other things like material finding later. I can help to teach you and there are so many things to say about cooking that I just do not understand that what to write and what not to. but just remember that you have to be safe first. I mean that while cooking you will always you will have to have a cotton cloth I mean a napkin at hand for catching the vessel if its moving from its place or you have to

Re: [AI] Query for cooking area...
I do honor the expert advice on cooking by Payal and others. However, I do wonder the risk when the flame is not fired in first few attempts is the same irrespective of the fact whether the vessel is on the gas or not, you would have to give it a break, switch off the knob, and again begin the effort. Yes, I agree it makes it a bit difficult to light the burner if the vessel is already placed on it, so chances of misfiring do increase slightly. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Vamshi. G Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2012 7:59 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Query for cooking area... Hi all, I am not a cook. But I can make tea on my own. I always put the utensil on the stove and then burn it. This way I can make sure the utensil is properly placed without tilting to one side or the other. Then I touch the burner with my hand, place the lighter right there, and shoot the lighter. As others said, the only risk is when the lighter doesn't burn in the first few attempts as the gas spreads near your hand and the fire may spread towards you. But when I can't do in the first few attempts, I turn the burner, wait for a few minutes, and then try it again. I reiterate, I'm not at all a regular cooker. So, this is not an expert speaking. On 7/12/12, payal payal.thereside...@gmail.com wrote: Hi bijal, This is a very personal preference, but most often, it is safer to first light the flame and then put up the utensil. This because, you may not be able to target the burner with the lighter correctly if the utensil is on it and end up wasting gas, which on it's own can be dangerous when the flame finally catches. It is not difficult if you manage the flame right. When lighting the gas, ensure your knob is turned down to low so the flame does not flare when it catches. This gives you enough space and opportunity to put your utensil on the burner safely and adjust it to your desire as well. It won't heat that quickly and makes life easier. But, like I said earlier, it is a matter of personal preferences here, however,I've been using this method for years now without any trouble and cooked many a meal without problems. And, when it comes to burning fingers, remember, as you go on, your fingers get used and seasoned to bear the heat and it will not bother you after a while. Your mother is bound to worry, that is why she is there, but she'll get over it soon enough. HTH. Hi, NVDA is indeed a free screen reader but to my knowledge, Lekha is not a free TTS. I say so, as I couldn't find any link to download Lekha on Nuance's website where they have put links for other TTS like Sangeeta Nor I could find it anywhere else on the net. I had once asked NAB and Saksham to provide some link but they too, couldn't provide this. Hence, if this is not a free TTS, using/advising it to be used with NVDA to my mind would be a piracy. Re: [AI] Hindi and marathi reading with jaws?
Dear Rajesh You need only to change the synthesizer for that. It will work on any version of Jaws +v9. To do that, press ctrl+insert+s There after select Sapi 5 synthesizer If it does not speak in Hindi, go to options, voices, global selection, Here select Hindi in language. In person, you can select the correct voice. Lekha should of course be installed for it to show up. It will work on any screen reader which supports Unicode and SAPI. That is the only requirement. Re: [AI] Hindi and marathi reading with jaws?
If so, while running any later version of jaws, go to options/voices/global adjustment... there, just select profile SAPI and you will here Microsoft sam's voice if you are using windows xp or anna if it is windows seven. Tab till you get profile's language dropdown list (combobox) and navigate down until you hear hindi. Then, press tab until you get save as and give your desired name to that profile. Once it is done, just say ok and now simply press control+insert/jaws key+s to cycle between those voice profiles such as eloquence and hindi. Note: that profile name appears in the name which you will have given while saving it. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Asudani, Rajesh Sent: Friday, July 13, 2012 1:06 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Hindi and marathi reading with jaws? Re: [AI] Request for responses against the injustice.
Maharashtra high court order on january 15, 2011, i think, would be useful for you. it clearly states that when a post is identified for PWD, he can not be declared unfit on the ground of his disability by the medical examinors. Vamshi 9949349497-Original message- From: sujith kumar Sent: 13/07/2012, 3:10 pm To: accessindia Subject: [AI] Request for responses against the injustice. Respected members, This is regarding the Complaint about Kerala PSC’s Last Grade Servant suitability test and rank list for the visually challenged. I applied for the post of last grade servant in Thrissur district in Kerala PSC (Category no. 508/2009). As I am a partially blind person (75% disability), I requested for a scribe, and wrote the exam with the help of the scribe allowed for me. I secured 73 marks in the written exam and thereby attained a place in the special probability list for physically handicapped, published by the Thrissur District PSC office. As a result, I received a letter from Psc to attend the certificate verification and suitability test on 09.05.2012 in the District PSC office, Thrissur. PSC conducted the suitability test by way of giving news paper to read, and I failed to do it. On 29.06.2012, KPSC published the rank list for the same by dropping me. Thus, I have been denied the right to be in the rank list. If I will be in the rank list I will be in the 4th place among the blind persons in the rank list. Now the marks of last candidate in the partially blind category in the rank list is minus 1. Even though I had acquired 73 marks, I was denied the place in the rank list and thereby also the job opportunity, because of the “unsuitable for the post” statement result of the suitability test. The recruitment is for the various departments of the Kerala Government with a very large number of vacancies. Also at the same time, 5 persons with 100% disability and 2 persons with the same percentage of disability in Trivandrum and Kottayam districts respectively have been included in the rank list. A point to be noted is that, as the process of “newspaper reading” was not applied for the suitability test in the other districts other than Thrissur, as a result, larger number of persons having 90% disability was included in the rank list. So, when persons with 100% disability and persons having negative marks were included in the rank list, I, instead of scoring 73 marks and having 75% disability was neglected from the list. Due to this injustice shown towards me, I decided to file a case in the court and have approached a lawyer for helping me to obtain the rights. The lawyer has informed that most probably by Tuesday (July 17th), the case will be filed in the Kerala Administration Tribunal. So, dear members, if you have any informations regarding these type of cases and judgments or if you have any documents or government orders regarding this matter please do mail or inform me ASAP. I had also faced the similar problem in the suitability test of LD clerk post a couple of months ago. So, if there are any other ways also for availing justice, please do help me! Re: [AI] Query for cooking area...
Well, folks, I’ve been reading this thread since yesterday, and got really amazed to see so many terrific and useful responses and tips. I’m one of those atypical men who’ve got hobby of cooking, although I do not get those many chances to groom it due to the hectic work schedule and denial from family. i love cooking things like sandwitches, beverages, cakes, maggy, rice, salids, dried snacks, and selected vegetables (curries). During the process, I do use different kinds of appliances, vessels and ingredients and manage to successfully prepare the dishes. Through this email, I’d like to tell my fellow list mates that cooking is not that difficult if you once prepare yourself for the minimal risks of mishap that may occur due to the unavailability of sighte. Although I don’t use any of them, but there are a good number of assistive devices and technologies available which may ease your potential problem (s) and allow you to accessibly cook delicious food with no special risks. Coming to lightening up the gas, I always light the gas first, and then put the vessel on it. This, makes it easier for me to properly adjust the position of the vessel allowing it to receive the proper heat that’s being produced by the gas. Cooking without looking is certainty an art, and requires several extra efforts in order to do the things efficiently. From my limited personal experiences with it, I found out that its really important for a visually impaired person to keep all the senses open while cooking. For instance, every operation produces a specific sound, and if you can track down what sounds how and why, it makes the things very easy for you. Boiling of milk and water, boiling of different vegetables, frying, baking, mashing, tosting etc, all have different and specific sounds associated with them, and once you master the art of understanding them, you’d find a drastic improvement in your confidence and efficiency. Similarly, keeping your touch sense open to feel and analyse various things and their textures and keeping the smelling sense open to measure so many things helps a great way too. One of the biggest problems that I’ve personally had was about cutting, peeling, crushing and chopping vegetables, which if not done wit concentration may consequence finger and arm injuries. Also, I’ve had severe troubles in identifying and remembering the textures, smells and positions of various spices, that look very confusing at the outset. I guess that the practice and self confidence is the key to be efficient in cooking. I myself am not one, but I’m learning from my own mistakes, experiences and of course the extremely valuable advises and guidance from many experts available on this list. Oh, and one of the most severe challenges that I’m facing is the denial from family, as my mom does not allow me to cook that much, but I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to learn the same from some good friends, and still learning it. please get in touch for anything you believe I can help with. On a lighter note, all those who’d like to eat the food cooked by me on their own risk are much welcome! ☺ Regards, Prateek agarwal. Managing director, Daedal technovations pvt. Re: [AI] Query for cooking area...
Hi Prateek and all, Really it seems good to have interest in cooking. It inspires many males to go ahead in this field. Well, It was very much difficult for me to convince my mum before two months because of my late and total absent of sight. I had been trying these efforts since 2009 after taking basic training from Mitra Jyothi. Really there is broad difference between to learn in training institute and learn in our home itself. But at last, I’ve won this bettle completely..smiles.. Well friends, Today I cooked Capsicum curry in lunch and followed many instructions given by you. I chopped Capsicum, remove all seeds carefully myself and no difficulty. Even today after lighting the gas, I put vessel directly on its specific place and checked also. Suddenly my mum told, good Bijal, perfect. Everything was fine till end. But I faced one problem while adding vegetable in oil. Few drops of oil spraided outside on the gas. I could not realized but my mum inform me. I am always taking care to do this. Still want suggestions from you all. Bijal. Once again I am requesting to all the members to please respond to this mail with suitable suggestions and informations! Re: [AI] Query for cooking area...
Congratulations, Bijal. Good going. The only thing one can do to be careful not to spill oil out of the cooking utensil is to get an idea of where the rim of the container is, then bring your hand or whatever container may have your vegetable to go onto the fire and lightly drop it into the oil. Initially, it is scary because you are trying to save the oil from splashing onto your hand, but if you put the vegetable into another container, steel one, so it doesn't singe when touched to the rim of the hot utensil on the fire, just tilt the container of the vegetable into the pan on the fire. It will splash some, because of some water content in it, but slow and steady, you'll definitely get there. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of bijal patel Sent: Friday, July 13, 2012 6:02 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Query for cooking area... Bijal. Director, Public Policy, AFB (202) 469-6833 mrich...@afb.net mailto:mrich...@afb.net Now that a new era of accessible TV viewing through mandatory video description has dawned on July 1, a founding father of the movement to make it happen reflects on the long and winding journey that the vision loss community has taken to achieve this milestone in full and equal participation in American life. Read the below personal account of Paul Schroeder, AFB's Vice President for Programs and Policy, celebrate with us the video description accomplishment that so many in our field helped to make possible, and join in the conversation about where we are and where we need to go from here by commenting on Paul's blog post at: http://www.afb.org/blog Watching TV Blind: A Love-Hate Relationship by Paul W. Schroeder I have a longstanding love hate relationship with television. And, for 20 years now, video description has hung like a shadow over this relationship. I grew up on the great classic comedies of the 1970s: “All in the Family,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and “M.A.S.H.” I spent far too many summer vacation hours lazily watching shows from “Love Boat” to gameshows. I later adopted sitcoms like “Cheers” and “The Cosby Show,” along with a sprinkling of a few medical and legal dramas. In other words, I was a pretty typical American TV watcher. Yet, there was always a disappointing aspect to TV programs (okay, there are many in fact, but that’s another story). There was always the question: “What’s going on?” And too often, there wasn’t anyone willing or able to answer it for me. After all, as a blind person, I missed the visual information the programs presented: telltale facial expressions, audience laughter not triggered by dialogue, the silent entrance of a new character and, of course, the complete shift of setting. These, and many other aspects about television, are confounding to people who cannot see the screen (or who cannot see it very well). As a consequence, I have what may be unhealthy love for the work of Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriter whose shows from “Sports Night,” to “West Wing,” to “Studio 60” were heavily dialogue-driven. These days, I’m finding very little TV that I want to watch, and I’m mostly snarling at my teen and young-adult daughters about their TV viewing choices (typical parent, I guess). Meanwhile, in the 1990s, WGBH brought us its Descriptive Video Service (DVS), which brought movies and some public television shows to life. For me, and as importantly, my sighted family, DVS was a blessing, providing much more information about movies and shows, thereby relieving my family of the pressure to provide haphazard description. Also during the early 90s, closed captioning was beginning to take off, providing access for people who are deaf or have hearing loss. Disability advocates (yours truly among them) began pushing for a law to require TV programs to be captioned and described. In 1996, Communications Act amendments were passed, bringing us Section 255, which required telecommunications access, but also Section 713, which required captioning of TV programs. Advocates tried hard at that time to get description required as well, but representatives of the television industry strenuously objected to description; apparently captioning would be accepted as a requirement, but description would not. Nonetheless, the 1996 Act did require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to study description, and in 2000 the agency announced that it would require the broadcast networks as well as the largest nonbroadcast networks (generally this means cable networks), to provide 50 hours per quarter of programming with video description. The FCC believed it had the authority to require what amounts to a “pilot” effort of this sort. So, in April 2002, the requirement went into effect, and several networks started airing programs with description. However, the TV industry asked the courts to overturn the FCC requirement. Unfortunately, the

Also, you can type by changing keyboard layout to malayalam in MS word or other text editor. For this, you need to install language pack and add malayalam as input language in XP. If you are using windows 7, just add malayalam input from control panelregional and language keyboards languages. Then open Start menu all programs baraha x baraha direct. Note: 'x' here stands for the version here. Now you should be able to see Baraha direct Icon in your System tray (usually Bottom right corner of your video display unit / monitor) Jaws users can use 'Ins+f11' for bringing up the system tray Icon list. Click the right mouse button on Baraha direct Icon, A context menu will be popped, then navigate to 'Malayalam' 'Malayalam' is a sub menu, in Malayalam sub menu, choose the Item 'Unicode' and hit enter. Note: at any time, if you want to switch back to English, press 'f11' and press the same key to switch to Malayalam. Now press 'f11' to switch back to English, open word, set the font to either 'Kartika' or to 'arial Unicode Ms' and again press 'f11' and start Typing in. The typed text will be displayed in Malayalam. The keyboard layout is phonetic, thats to say, lik typing in English. Eg: if you Type malayALaM it will be displaied as Malayalam in Malayalam Alphabets. Hope this clears your doubt. The same method can be adapted for any Indic languages, in menus, you need to select appropriate language. Need to select the appropriate font in Ms word. On 7/13/12, Mahesh S. [AI] Fwd: Introducing the NEW Perkins SMART BraillerR
Hi all, hope all are doing fine, pasting below a short info about the new perkens brailler which get from another site. Regards Wahid -- Forwarded message -- Thought this might be of interest to a few of you, but be warned that this is a very pricey item - the pre-order price is given as $1,995 for orders from within the U.S., and this is not the APH version that includes the learning software. Please don't ask any questions here concerning this product, as this is all the information I have. Please go to one or more of the links included in the message for additional information. -- Perkins Products logo http://support.perkins.org/site/R?i=UW4YX_2qGBhQUCUIvCO7_w HEAR THE WORDS. SEE THE LETTERS. CONNECT THE DOTS. New Perkins SMART Brailler http://support.perkins.org/site/R?i=47WwegPGT606kPQ3kZZ7ww We want you to be the first to hear about our new groundbreaking technology, poised to forever change the world's understanding of braille education. Perkins Products is proud to introduce the NEW Perkins SMART BraillerR - the evolution of the Perkins BraillerR from a low-technology, beloved classic to a high-technology learning and teaching tool. Its built-in video screen combined with audio feedback shows and speaks letters and words in real-time as they are being brailled. The SMART Brailler, developed by Perkins Products in conjunction with the American Printing House for the Blind, opens the door to a new, more intuitive way for individuals, both sighted and blind, to communicate, teach and learn braille together. Now teachers in a mainstream classroom can see what their students are brailling. Sighted parents can help their visually impaired children with homework. And students can discover the fun in their own braille education. Sighted or blind, we can all share the learning experience and CONNECT THE DOTS! How does the SMART Brailler do this? It includes: * A video screen for instantaneous audio and visual feedback - displays SimBraille and print * Text-to-speech from Acapela Group so the letters, words and sentences can be read back while brailling * Ability to edit, save and transfer electronic documents via USB * Headphone jack and volume control * Operates as a mechanical brailler for extended use * Rechargeable and removable battery In addition, the APH version of the SMART Brailler also includes the APH Building on Patterns-Kindergarten software - Braille Learning Exercises which offer easy lessons for anyone who wants to learn braille. The Perkins Products version of the SMART Brailler, ordered directly from Perkins Products, does not include Building on Patterns but does include: * The option to use other languages besides English * The ability (coming soon) to download braille learning software for a fee There is no other product on the market that makes learning braille this intuitive and accessible. Re: [AI] Requesting IMS CAREER LAUNCHER CAT Study material in AUDIO FORMATE
Hi Anish, it is not possible for anybuddy to send you the latest material for cat preparation. However you can get in touch with NAB delhi they have some books of career launcher in daisy format. But they are very old editions if I am not wrong. I have just enrolled my self in their coaching program and they have given me the study material in PDF files after a lot of convincing. I am trying my level best to make that material readable by screen readers because it is not possible for jaws to read those complex equations of algebra. So I will advice you to enrol yourself and then try getting soft copy. reading those books of quantitative abtitude is not the cup of tea of any screen reader till now specially in normal circumstances. I will inform you if I will be able to make it readable using infty reader or math type. regards On 7/13/12, Anish Khan anish.kha...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi Everyone,Could anuone send me a recorded study material for CAT PREPRATION? \ From: accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2012 9:28 PM Subject: AccessIndia Digest, Vol 58, Issue 1360 Send AccessIndia mailing list submissions to accessindia@accessindia.org.in To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/accessindia_accessindia.org.in or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in You can reach the person managing the list at accessindia-ow...@accessindia.org.in When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than Re: Contents of AccessIndia digest... Re: [AI] Can anyone send me the link for ms outlook express tutorials
here are the tips and tricks for ms-outlook for jaws users: Outlook Helpful Hints The following are some helpful hints for using Outlook with JAWS. Outlook Reading Pane When using JAWS, the Outlook Reading Pane must be set to the bottom of the window or disabled. If the Reading Pane is set to the right, it forces the Message List Headers into Two-line mode, and only the first line is announced. To set the Reading Pane to the bottom of the window, or to disable it, do the following: Open Outlook. Press ALT+V to open the View menu. Choose the Reading Pane sub menu. Select Bottom to set the pane to the bottom of the window, or select Off to disable the reading pane. Outlook Options While working in Outlook, you can press INSERT+V to change your options. Select an option with the arrow keys and then press SPACEBAR or use the Execute button to cycle through the available settings. Press ENTER to accept your changes and close the dialog box. For information on the standard JAWS options that are not described in this section, see Adjust JAWS Options. Announce Header Fields with Message If this option is set to Yes, then JAWS automatically reads the From and Subject fields when you open a message. If you change this option to No, then JAWS does not automatically read this information. Announce Frame and Link Count When opening an HTML message, JAWS gives you a number of frames and links contained within the message. If you do not want to hear the count, set this option to No. Read Messages Automatically If you want JAWS to automatically read the message body from beginning to end, change this option to Yes. If you do not want JAWS to automatically read the message body after reading the message header, then leave this option set to No. Tip: When reading messages automatically, the cursor may move faster than JAWS speech. If you stop speech with CTRL, you should press CTRL+HOME to move to the beginning of the message before continuing to read. Auto-Complete Announcement When you type an e-mail address into the To, CC, or BCC edit boxes, Outlook searches for matches in your address book and then automatically completes the entry for you. JAWS will now announce the address that Outlook automatically inserts into the edit box. To disable this feature, press INSERT+V, select Announce Address List Auto-complete, and press the SPACEBAR to choose Off. Message Attachment Notification Turn this option on if JAWS is not detecting and announcing the presence of file attachments when you select a message. Announce Information Bar Messages In Outlook, the information bar frequently displays useful status information. For example, this bar informs you when attachments have been removed from a message, which account a message will be sent from, when you last replied to the current message, when the appointment/meeting you are creating conflicts with an existing appointment, when an appointment time has passed, and so on. If you want JAWS to automatically announce the contents of the information bar when reading messages, leave this option set to Yes. Read/Unread Message Verbosity Choose Say Unread if you want JAWS to announce, Unread, when you select a message that you have not yet opened. If you change this option to Silent, JAWS does not indicate unread messages. Indicate Meeting Requests If this option is on, JAWS indicates when the currently selected message is a meeting request. Turn this option off if you do not want JAWS to indicate whether a message is a meeting request. This option is only available in Outlook 2002 or later. Forwarded Flag Announcement Turn this option on if JAWS is not indicating messages that you have forwarded when you select them. Replied Flag Announcement Turn this option on if JAWS is not indicating messages that you have replied to when you select them. Message Flag Announcement If this option is on, JAWS announces when the currently selected message has one of Outlook's message status flags, such as Important, Business, Follow up, Personal, and so on. Turn this option off if you do not want those flags announced. This option is only available in Outlook 2002 or later. Block Quote, Frame, Heading, List, and Table Announcement You can turn off block quote, frame, heading, list, and table announcement when reading HTML formatted e-mail messages, just as you can when viewing Web pages. To change these options, press INSERT+V, select the option you want to enable or disable, and press the SPACEBAR. For more information about these options, see HTML Options. Optimizing Outlook The following are choices and suggestions for optimizing Outlook options for use with JAWS: Calendar TAB from the Folder List view to Calendar. From the View menu choose the Current View submenu. Choose from the following list: Day/Week/Month, Day/Week/Month with Auto Preview, Active Appointments, Events, Annual Events, and Recurring Appointments, By
