Re: [AI] Latest RPD bill
We will get it when it is tabled. At present it is top secret. Last I heard the minister was not being allowed to move it. Just 3 days left in this session. It will be better than our current law and never as good as we wanted it to be. So there is plently of work for lawyers in the future.Smile. Re: [AI] Big step taken by NAB Delhi to make visually impaired students independent in reading and writing
Wonderful initiative. I do look forward to a day when all competitive exams particularly banking would be conducted on computer without a scribe... In fact, prashant jee, we would like to initiate such integrated education in good mainstream schools with backend support here at Nagpur. We may talk further on this... -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Prashant Verma Sent: Tuesday, December 06, 2016 9:30 AM To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. Subject: Re: [AI] Big step taken by NAB Delhi to make visually impaired students independent in reading and writing Dear all, Please note that this policy at NAB Delhi has not been declared suddenly. First of all, for those who do not know, NAB Delhi pursues integrated education where our children study in the best mainstream schools in our area with non-disabled children. NAB Delhi provides all required support to the blind students on a day to day basis. Our special educators help the students with homework and difficult subjects in the afternoon just as parents do. We provide reading material in accessible formats and visit the school regularly to sensitize and support the school teachers in working with blind students in their class. The result of this model has been just fantastic. We are proud that most of our ex-students are doing very well. There is a notable improvement in the personality, general awareness and confidence of our students due to schooling in the mainstream. During the last 5 years we have started a program of supporting the education with technology tools. Children are given exposure to the computers and digital devices like Android tablets from class 3 and by class 6 they are expected to be independent in using the computers for reading and writing. 90% of our students between class 6 and 12 have been given personal laptops. There is a dedicated computer lab for training the students and classes are also arranged in the evenings. There is limited internet Wi-Fi for senior students in the campus. Note that the primary education still happens in the Braille medium. All blind students learn to read and write Braille and get their books in Braille. We also have large print facilities for those who are recommended to use large print and magnifiers for reading and writing. Some of our students have been writing school exams on computers with great success for years. However, many others have taken the easy way out and opted for the volunteer provided by the school to write the exam. This scribe is sometimes a student of a higher class or even a teacher or staff of the school. I am sure all of you will admit that when our exams are written by others, the results do not always reflect our knowledge and ability. Sometimes we suffer due to mistakes made by the scribe and at other times gain due to interventions made by the scribe knowingly or unknowingly. On the other hand, we have noticed a remarkable improvement in the academic performance and development of those students who are writing exams independently as compared to those who do not yet do so. I understand that it will not be possible for other institutions to implement such a policy soon. They should do the ground work before blind students are asked to write exams on the computers. At my stint in Delhi university, I was involved in adoption and implementation of the current exam writing policy. I fully support the current CCPD and MSJE policy where print disabled students are entitled to extra time and choice of a medium to write their exam - using a scribe, computers or Braille. The students must have the choice and should get extra time even when they use the computers. However, at NAB where we are in the position of guardians, we must do all we can to develop the skills and knowledge levels of our students. We understand that in the current information age and digital era, there is a threat of digital divide for persons with blindness. Those who will adopt the digital medium will have the opportunity to grow and progress and those who do not adopt it may get left behind. This is why we are trying to encourage our children to use the digital medium through this policy. I believe when the scribe option was created, there was no way the blind could write in a medium that could be read directly by the mainstream. But now we have solutions. The computer is just a replacement of pen and paper as far as exam writing is concerned. The sighted children at school need not use a computer since they can use the pen and paper. We are firmly behind our students and will support them at each step of this transition. Children will be given required training and we will work with the schools to facilitate provision of question papers in electronic format. As far as technology and its reliability is concerned, there are no major doubts. Class 10, 12 and

The issue is not just of any issue with PNB as such. The issue becomes an issue because the tax paying portel starts with a captcha and there is no audio alternative. Hd the captcha not been there or an alternative like an audio captcha or OTP was available, this issue would not even have come up. As for PNB, I have my firefox running the latest version, and even Java is up to date. Re: [AI] News of Interest: Visually challenged girl ‘marries’ Lord Krishna in MP’s Tikamgarh district
She is truly a divyang. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of avinash shahi Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2016 11:02 AM To: accessindia; jnuvision Subject: [AI] News of Interest: Visually challenged girl ‘marries’ Lord Krishna in MP’s Tikamgarh district A 22-year-old visually challenged girl, who has been a staunch devotee of Krishna since childhood, married an idol of the Hindu god at a village in Tikamgarh district on Sunday. http://www.hindustantimes.com/bhopal/visually-challenged-girl-marries-lord-krishna-in-mp-s-tikamgarh-dist/story-DmycTWQHPodJNriM2RhaaJ.html Shalini’s ‘marriage’ was solemnised according to Bundelkhandi traditions. The marriage procession reached the bride’s home in Digoda village, where the ceremony was performed. According to locals, Shalini has been reading religious scriptures such as Ramayana, Bhagwat Geeta and playing musical instruments since childhood. The villagers pay a lot of respect to the woman, as they believe she possesses some supernatural power. Shalini’s father Munnalal Bidua, a teacher, told HT that he has two sons and two daughters. Shalini is visually challenged since birth. She expressed her desire to marry ‘Lord Krishna’ recently. The parents didn’t disappoint her and consulted a priest to fulfil the desire of their daughter. The marriage was scheduled for December 4, as according to Hindu calendar it happens to be ‘Vivah Panchmi’. On Saturday, the marriage rituals like menhdi and sangeet were held. On Sunday, the marriage procession (baraat) was taken out from a temple with Lord Krishna’s Laddu Gopal form as the bridegroom. After the marriage, the bride has plans to continue living at her present home, where she has a separate room converted into a temple. -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. no it is working fine with firefox. please check your java run time and update it with version 7 or latest. uninstall the old version of java run time. also let your firefox allow java script after installation. in my case it is working fine with the higher versions of firefox and google chroam also. you can send your queries to ibshelpd...@pnb.co.in for further assistance. however, we are discussing about income tax accessibility, hence you please open a separate thread for this issue. pnb's net banking will override this issue. - Original Message - From: "Mahesh S. Re: [AI] Income tax Efiling accessibility update
what about audio captcha. is it only numeric or alfa-numeric, if it is alfa-numeric, how one can recognise small and capital letters in audio format. i just encountered audio captcha in alfa-numeric format and could not make difference between small and capital letters. if it still persist, the income tax people are falsely claiming accessibility. secondly what about the captcha while paying tds online through nsdl? - Original Message - From: "asif" To: "'AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled.'" Well, one can tweet but how do we tweet to the RS MPs. Know a few names but is there a ready list of all RS members with twitter handles? George -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of ra...@barrierbreak.com Sent: 12 December 2016 12:07 To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: [AI] Join the Twitter campaign to push for Disability Rights Bill - 3pm to 6pm Dear Friends, The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, NCPEDP, has started a Twitter campaign to push the Parliament to pass the pending Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill. The campaign requires one to go online on Twitter today from 3 PM to 6 PM. The idea is to tweet to all the Rajya Sabha MPs having Twitter accounts about the Bill widely to make #PassRPWDBill trend. This is because when anything trends hugely on Twitter, the TV/ newspapers automatically comes to support. You can use the below tweet or create your own but keep the message short and do not forget to use #PassRPWDBill in your tweet. Just 60 seconds to change the lives of 10 crore people.
