Re: [AI] A Menstrual Kit for Visually Impaired Girls.

—The kit is divided into two parts. The first part has tactile
diagrams along with text in Braille and in print. The second part has
a life-sized, three-dimensional model for demonstration and training.

If you thought periods were one of those difficult days of the month
for a girl or a woman, think of a visually impaired girl who has to
manage her periods every month. Realising that menstruation is still
such a taboo subject in Indian society along with the many
restrictions which a girl has to face due to age – old myths, Sadhvi
Thukral, a Delhi based designer decided to work in the field of
providing information about menstruation. During her research, while
studying at the Pearl Academy of Fashion, New Delhi, Sadhvi found that
there weren’t many sources of information available for visually
impaired girls and therefore decided to work in this area.

She designed a kit which could serve as library material and would be
made available at Institutions specialized in the teaching and
training of visual impaired girls. However, this kit is designed in
such a way that parents can also purchase it for their daughters.

The kit is divided into two parts. The first part has tactile diagrams
along with text in Braille and in print. The second part has a
life-sized, three-dimensional model for demonstration and training. It
provides a holistic approach towards providing the basic essential
information about menstruation to visually impaired girls.

Parts of the content used in the Kit are an adaptation of TARSHI’s
books on sexuality and reproductive health. The contents of the kit
have been validated by the students of Saksham Daksh, Noida, India.

‘Kahani Her Mahine Ki’, as the name suggests, is a natural phenomena
which reoccurs every month in most women. This kit covers the subject
of menstruation and helps girls in the effective management of their
 periods.

 The kit comprises of:

 1. Tactile diagrams and material in the form of Information Slides,
with labels in Braille and in print of the different parts of the
body. The Information Slates fit into a box with slides.

 2. Each slate has text in Braille for the visually impaired and in
text for those who are not.

 3. It also contains a life-sized model of the human body for
 demonstration.

The kit contains informative slides made out of plywood. Plywood is
readily available in the local markets and can be constructed simply
by a trained carpenter. It contains five slides. A user can easily
take out the slides one by one in serial order, beginning from the top
to the bottom. Each slide is labelled with numbers to make it easy for
the user to put it back.

 These slides explain:
 • How to keep your private parts clean
 • Kinds of pads available
 • How to wear a pad
 • How to dispose a used pad and how to wear a tampon
 • How to dispose a used tampon
 • How to make and use reusable homemade sanitary options
 • How to wash reusable pads and pouches for pads
 • Suitable Panties

The diagrams seen on the slides are made out of terracotta and paper
mash. It is 100% sustainable and is made by local artisans. It is a
great source of income and can be adapted and styled in accordance
with any ethnicity, based on the kind of clay modelling or pottery
style prominent in the area. It is also a rapidly degenerating craft
and this is a sure-shot way of reviving it.

The kit focuses on the bodily and hormonal changes in adolescent girls
leading up to menstruation. It informs the reader about various
products available in the market and even suggests home remedies for
the same. A part of the training focuses on teaching the audience
proper methods of usage and disposal of the products.

 Life-size Model:

The life-size model is a replication of the lower torso of the female
body complete with genitals made out of waste paper and silicon. A
special mechanism has been worked out to demonstrate the real process
of menstruation in the human body.

Sadhvi Thukarl is a Delhi based designer. She worked on “Kahani Har
Mahine ki” in association with Vikalp Design, the kit is documented by
the Museum of Menstruation. This project also won the ‘Most Innovative
Award’ at Openworks. Sadhvi is also looking for collaborations in
 taking this project further .

[AI] Urgent information required regarding latest released guidelines of CCPD for scribe.

2013-07-01 Thread Ranjana Rana
Dear all,
Greetings!

Wanted to consult one thing with the knowledgeable members of Access India.
Please clear me one thing that, the recent guidelines released by CCPD
regarding scribe are state specific or should be obeyed by all the
states as they written in the released copy?
Or is there any time line given that every state should follow these
guidelines within ... time?

Please reply to this mail as soon as possible, as it is very urgent
because one of my friend is having his exam on 7th of July conducted
by HPSSSB in Himachal Pradesh and the officials are asking him to take
the writer of below than 12th class, where as in the recent guidelines
this criteria has been removed. When he showed the latest guidelines
then he was communicated that our state has not yet implimented these
guidelines so you have to take the younger scribe as his exam is of
graduation level.
Please in these circumstances what should he do?

Waiting for your immidiate responce.

Thanks and Regards,
Ranjana Rana

2013-04-18 Thread Ranjana Rana
Hi friends,

I think that as per the guidelines mentioned in the scribe form, it is
very much clear that the criteria for the scribe should be one grade
low than the stipulated criteria has been removed as it is no where
mentioned in the guidelines issued by SBI itself.
Where ever, in the earlier exams it had been clearly mentioned.

Subject: [AI] Urgent suggestions required regarding IBPS common interview.

 Dear all,
 Greetings!

I have few confusions regardding the documents to be submitted during
 the Common Interview for LDC.
The members on the list having the confirm knowledge about this then
please throw some light on it, as my interview is on 19th March.

My confusion is that, are we suppose to submit any document in support
of the identification of our scribe that we have used in the written
 examination?
because during the exam we have already submitted the valid documents,
then only we were allowed to sit in the exam.
And if yes, then what all documents we are suppose to take with us?
(only the mark sheet of the candidate, prooving that the scribe was
 eligible or ID proof too?)

Please note that it is no where mentioned in the admit card to submit
any type of scribe's document. I am pasting the exact text written
which is mentione there in context of scribe.

Note: In case of persons with disabilities (PWD) who have availed the
service of a scribe at the time of the examination (CWE clerk2). If
the details /identity of the scribe are in doubt. The candidate may
not be considered for selection process.

As per my understanding, this text describes no where to attach any
 scribe document.
The knowledged members are requested to please give some suggestions.
 Hope to have immidiate response.

 Thanks in advance,
 Ranjana Rana

60% for the scribe. Could you tell me where can I get the entire

should we approach.

Seeking for your valuable input, this will be helpful for many other

 Hi Ajay,

Normally, the eligibility criteria for a writer is that he/she should be one

grade junior than the stipulated criteria and not from the candidate.
Suppose, if for SBI exam, the eligibility criteria is 12th only, and your
sister is doing her post graduation, she can't take a scribe who is under
graduate but would take one who is in class 11th.

Hello every one:
Some times, I encounter a strange problem while reading some documents
with jaws.
Some word documents, though they are written in English, with all
English spellings, letters and punctuations, my JAWS reads with french
accents. That is it pronounces every letter and word, together or
separtely, pronounces in french itself.
For example:
When I started reading Lajja of Taslima, it reads every thing
including its letters and words in French with all French accents.
What could be the reason?
It looks very strange, and has been happening for quite some time.
This is resisting me from reading some of the books.
So please help me.

From your question what I understood is that you are not seeing the BCC
field in your outlook express while composing a new message. To activate the
BCC field just do the following.

1 Press ctrl + n to compose a new message.
2 Then go to view menu by pressing alt + v.
3 Here you will find an option all headers, just check that option by
hitting enter on it.

Now you will be able to see the BCC field.
HTH.
Thanks and regards.

Subject: [AI] Driving for the Blind - A dream come true

Dear Friends,
I found this snippet of news. The event pertains to the USA. Anyone
interested in India?
  Col Pradeep Kapoor

Blacksburg, VA - Blind people in Virginia are getting the chance to
drive, thanks to a special dirt buggy developed by students at the
Virginia Tech College of Engineering.

The retrofitted four-wheel dirt buggy developed by the Blind Driver
Challenge team uses laser range finders, an instant voice command
interface and other innovative technologies to guide blind drivers as
they steer, brake, and accelerate.

It was great! said Wes Majerus of Baltimore, the first blind person to
drive the buggy on a closed course at the Virginia Tech campus this
summer. Majerus is an access technology specialist with the National
Federation of the Blind's Jernigan Institute.

Mark Riccobono takes a test drive

Rather than producing a fully-autonomous vehicle, the team designed the
vehicle so that the blind motorist has complete control of the driving
process, as any sighted driver would.

This approach led to new challenges, including how to effectively convey
the high bandwidth of information from the laser sensors scanning the
vehicle's surrounding environment to the driver fast enough and accurate
enough to allow safe driving. As a result, the team developed non-visual
interface technologies, including a vibrating vest for feedback on speed,
a click counter steering wheel with audio cues, spoken commands for
directional feedback, and a unique tactile map interface that utilizes
compressed air to provide information about the road and obstacles
surrounding the vehicle.

Once the technology is perfected, laws now barring the blind from driving
and public perception must be changed, Riccobono said.

The team is already planning major changes to the technology, including
replacing the dirt buggy vehicle with a fully electric car. The
all-electric vehicle would reduce the vibration which can cause problems
to the laser sensor, and will provide clean electric power for the
computing units.

The team will bring the Blind Driver Challenge vehicle to the National
Federation of the Blind's Youth Slam summer camp event held July 26 to
August 1 in College Park, Md.

[AI] Seeing-eye car enables blind people to drive

2009-07-15 Thread Ranjana
Hello access Indians,

A warm good morning!

Hope it would be of your interest.

Seeing-eye car enables blind people to drive

Wesley Majerus finishes driving the Virginia Tech Blind Driver Challenge vehicle

A revolutionary car designed by Virginia Tech allows blind people to get behind
the steering wheel for the first time.

The retrofitted four-wheel dirt buggy uses laser range finders, a voice command
interface and a host of other innovative, cutting-edge technologies.

For the first time, blind drivers can steer, brake and accelerate without any
help from human passengers.

Blind ambition

Back in 2004, the US National Federation of the Blind challenged university
research teams to develop a vehicle that would one day allow the blind to
drive. Virginia Tech was the only institution to accept.

I thought it would be a very rewarding project, said Dennis Hong, director of
Virginia Tech's Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory. We are not only excited
about the vehicle itself but also about the potential of the many spin-off
technologies from this project that can be used for helping the blind in so
many ways.

Sitting inside the vehicle, a blind driver can turn the steering wheel, stop
and accelerate by following data from an on-board computer that uses sensory
information from the laser range finder to serve as the 'eyes' of the driver.

Front seat drivers

The team also developed non-visual interface technologies, including a
vibrating vest for feedback on speed, a click counter steering wheel with audio
cues, spoken commands for directional feedback, and a unique tactile map
interface that uses compressed air to provide information about the road and
obstacles surrounding the vehicle.

It was great! said Wes Majerus, the first blind person to drive the buggy on
a closed course at the Virginia Tech campus. The car's instructions are very
precise. You use the technology to act on the environment - the driving course
- in a very orderly manner.

The Virginia Tech research team is already planning major changes to the
technology, including replacing the dirt buggy with a fully electric car, in
order to reduce vibrations that can interfere with the laser sensor.

However, even once the technology is perfected, laws now barring the blind from
driving and public perception must be changed. This is the piece that will be
the most difficult, said Mark Riccobono of the National Federation of the
Blind, adding that the car must be near-perfected before his charity can push
the car to law-makers and the general public. He said this effort will take
millions of dollars in development.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was

Dear Accessindians,

I am facing problem in activating/deactivating widget on wordpress blog.

Firstly, let me tell you that they have changed the system of
activating/deactivating the widget. Now, we have to drag the widget and
drop it to the side bar.
I am not using wordpress 2.8 or any software, I am using their website.
Means wordpress.com

Now, here is what I am doing to use drag and drop feature of Jaws:

1. Place the jaws curser on the heading/content of the widget which I want
to activate.

2. Now, I am pressing ctrl+jaws key+8 to drag the widget.
3. Now, I am going to the heading of side bar. there, first I root jaws to
pc, then again pressing the same command to drop the widget. But
unfortunately, no luck!

Am I using the jaws feature in wrong way? I have never used previously so
don't know about it much. Or, its just the accessibility issue?
Bloggers, since this is Jaws issue, please help me can't ask on general
forums.
However, my personal openion for new bloggers is to use blogspot instead
of wordpress. It is bit inaccessible and difficult to use.

Expecting help.

Regards,

Amar Jain.

Hi,

To convert PDF to Word, do the following:

1. Open FineReader
2. Press ctrl+O to execute the open command. Here drag and select the PDF
file and hit enter.
3. Press ctrl+Shift+E to Analyze the pages and then Ctrl+Shift+R to make
FineReader read the pages.
4. Now go to fileSave result submenusend all pages to submenu and choose
MS word.

Doing so will bring a word document in focus and converted text will be
appearing on the screen. Now you can save this document with the desired
name, in the preferred location.

Hope this makes it easier.

Dear AI members

Today a girl, by name Chetana from Hyderabad, called me and told that
she was not allowed to write the clerical exam conducted by SBI
associate banks on first March, 2009 due to non fulfillment of
eligibility criteria of scribe.
She is a post graduate and her scribe was her own mother who did
graduation and secured 57%, which, to the best of my knowledge, meets
the eligibility criteria for a scribe.

Now she is applying for clerical exam in Andhra bank and got
clarification from me regarding the rules of scribe.

I am pasting her mail below awaiting your guidance.
Hello Vamshi,

This evening, I went along with my mother to meet the Andhra Bank
Chief Manager - Ms.Sarada to take clarity regarding the scribe issue.
But, she clearly conveyed that there is absolutely no possibility of
using a scribe who has completed her graduation irrespective of the
percentage. She infact told that the scribe can only be either a tenth
or inter pass and must not have secured more than 60%. I am totally
clueless of how to go about it and handle this issue.

Kindly request you to help me in this regard. Also request you to
support me with the study material for this preparation. Hope I am not
troubling you too much.

Bye Vamshi, take care.

Thanks and Regards,
Chetana.

Re: [AI] Questions on using rules in Outlook Express.

2009-04-07 Thread Ranjana

Hi Amar,
If you made a rule that the mails coming from any particular ID should go to
the specified folder, then when ever the mail will come from that particular
e-mail ID they will automatically go to the specified folder. There is no
need to apply the rules again and again.

Hope it will help.

Hello All,

I have 2 accounts in Outlook Express.

Now I want that whenever any mail arrives to the specified address, should
be moved into specific folder.

But the question here is, that do I need to apply the rule everytime when
I

receive messages from that account?

Example:

Where the To Line Contains 'chubbya...@gmail.com'
Move it to the specified folder Anil Jain.

Now, do I need to apply this rule every time when any mail arrives in
chubbyamar account?

Amar Jain.
