Re: [AI] Courses in programming

2010-05-10 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Hi jayant
I too would like to join in.
However, I am looking for someone who could explain basic concepts of
programming before jumping on to any language.
For programming, as systematic logical activity, must have some common clear
concepts and terminology which needs to be grasped before delving into
technicalities of any language.
I can understand that some concepts can only be explained by actually applying
them in some language, but prior to that, commonalities should be clarified
between languages and which are basic to programming.
I would be glad if you could suggest some book like: basic concepts of
programming in an easy to understand manner for an outsider like me.

This sound good to me. Thanks Harish. Would be able to teach us? I
think, we can use Ventrillo or for-the-people for classes since that
would include a white board to share code examples.

Thanks,

 Dear Srinivasu

I would suggest asp or dot net asp

Python is good, however it is indentation sensitive.
This could be an irritant for the beginner who could easily get zapped with
 otherwise the code being correct.

With ASP and dot net ASP there is no overhead. You can make your PC as a
webserver to practise to your hearts content. All you need is the modest
notepad to write your code which is bundled with the OS anyways.

It is easy to learn and you become proficient in programming on the web
 based platform.

 Harish.

Although, it will be problem of understanding for some, I really
suggest that we use NVDA as screen reader as it is free and open
source and easy to procure when someone seeks employment.

Also, I may agree with someone and let's start with Python so that we
 can also contribute to NVDA,

Re: [AI] Courses in programming

2010-05-08 Thread harish

Dear Srinivasu

I would suggest asp or dot net asp

Python is good, however it is indentation sensitive.
This could be an irritant for the beginner who could easily get zapped with
otherwise the code being correct.

With ASP and dot net ASP there is no overhead. You can make your PC as a
webserver to practise to your hearts content. All you need is the modest
notepad to write your code which is bundled with the OS anyways.

It is easy to learn and you become proficient in programming on the web
based platform.

ASP .Net looks good from employment perspective. You can build ASP .Net web
sites using Visual Studio, the Integrated Development Environment. Java is
also a good candidate for that matter. But for beginners, I feel C++ would
be of great help. It helps understand OOPS concepts quite well. Maybe people
willing to learn can give more thought to this.

Also, I may agree with someone and let's start with Python so that we
can also contribute to NVDA,

we are still deciding on a common platform - i would prefer open

with windows- what do you suggest?

I'm not too sure whether we could start a thread in AI list for this
(seeking comments from mods).
Otherwise we can explore other options.
Python would be a good language to start with.
