Hello Joe and others,

The problem might be that your w2k client doesnt 'tell' that the scheduled
backup is complete when it contacts your TSM server, instead it starts
another scheduled backup i.e. it loops. Probably, you cant locally backup
system object either, client will crash.

I dont recall the name of the security fix from MS that caused this problem,
but we tried to uninstall the fix but that didnt solve the problem. In my
case, I´m busy at the moment upgrading 250+ w2k servers to v.5.1.6.0.

And the best part is... all security hotfixes will be in SP4 which will be
released pretty soon. :D Andy -Do you this as a problem?

Also, see previous threads this month about this.

I'm running TSM 5.1.5 on OS/390 and backing up Win2K servers running the
5.1.5 client. I issue a define clientaction nodename action=command
object='dsmc backup systemobject' from the server to each of my clients at
the beginning of my backup cycle, followed by a define clientaction
nodename action=incremental command. The first command gets scheduled
right away, but it appears that in many cases the scheduled command takes
hours to finish and get out of the way so that the incremental backup can
begin. All I see in the server log is that the session times out and that
eventually it reconnects and the schedule completes. I don't see any errors
in the client log. Any ideas on what might be going on? I do see that the
schedule prompter keeps bugging the client to start the incremental; is it
possible that this is causing a problem for the client scheduler?

We just upgraded our STK L700 library from 6 DLT8000 drives to 8 DLT8000
drives. When reinstalling the TSM Solaris device drivers it only recognizes
6 of the 8 tape drives. It recognizes 1 of the new ones and drops one of the
preexisting ones. We verified that the tape drives where working from the
OS. Each sbus card controls 2 drives and has the target id's set to 1 and 0
on each card.

Anyone else had this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you have the latest TSA500.NLM, TSANDS.NLM SMDR.NLM. Having older

I have a Novell client that crashes the server when an Incremental is run.

Amazingly, if the Incremental is run separately by volumes it runs okay.
For example, i /sys and then i /apps. But when you just run i it
crashes the server.

Does anyone know what this is caused by???

Also, Can Novell 4.1.3 be backed down to 4.1.2???

Andy is correct. If you would like to use adsmscsi to claim the tape drive,
you will have to stop the NT driver that claims your tape drive. Since the
drive has been claimed by the Window driver and adsmscsi does not find other
device it can claim, adsmscsi will not start and you will get the message
The system cannot find the device specified.. You saw the device name
\\.\tape0, that is a good indication that the drive has been claimed by the
NT driver.

I have some general experiences with the TSM client, and here goes:

 - Never use compress always!
 - The INCLUDE SYS:* wont work... you have to use SYS:...\* - I know
it's supposed to be the same... but it isn't!
 - Tune on the following parameters:
#TXNBYTELIMIT
#TXNGROUPMAX
#TCPBUFFSIZE
#TCPWINDOWSIZE
 - Set MEMORYEFFICIENTBACKUP NO in the DSM.OPT file (should be standard,
but...)

Re: Help with Netware Client

2002-03-20 Thread Sjerps, Marco

Robert,

Try at dmsc prompt 'q tsa' and or depending on NDS backup or not 'q tsa
nds'
First remove the tsm.pwd file from ba client directory.

Had this problem to, and resolved this this way.
If this doesn't try reinstalling the client on the server ..

I'm implementing the BAClient on a Sun Enterprise 1. The TSM Server
(4.1.2) is on a Windows NT machine and the data will travel on a specific
backup LAN. Only TCP-IP is allowed on this LAN.

The SUN 10K is connected to the Backup LAN using a Gigabit Ethernet and the
TSM, now in Fast Ethernet using 2 adapters in team, will be also upgraded to
Gigabit.

The Connection is guarantee by a Cabletron Matrix 8000 dedicated to the
Backup Lan.

Can anyone give me some hint on the parameters for the TCP-IP config on the
dsm.opt or dsm.sys of the SUN BAClient?

Thanx in advance.

Re: Netware 5.0 Critical Error

2002-03-11 Thread Sjerps, Marco

Jesse,
Update Your TSA to TSAup8 availble by Novel at there website.
And Don't use the base code client 4.2.1.0,
check for the patch level 19 or higher.
It works fine with me (nw 5.0 with sp6a)

Hello, I need help. I'm running TSM Client 4.2.1 on Netware 5.0, I get the
following message when my backup starts both manually (incremental) and on a
schedule. Starting the schedule does not cause the problem. It happens
when the backup actually starts backing up.

Re: TSM and RAID on NT

2002-02-13 Thread Sjerps, Marco

Hi , Pétur Eyþórsson

Advise for Nt based system for hardware raid is 16k bloks which have proven
over the years

Standaard i use compaq array controllers and tested various blok sizes and
mainly at 16 blok the system preformed the best incombination with NT.
A large cache on the raid controller like 64mb to 128mb improves that more.
