Re: [AFMUG] OT - cardboard manufacturing jobs come back

2019-03-23 Thread Ken Hohhof
Well yeah, it never made sense to me that we would ship our trash all the way
to China to be recycled. I agree with Bill, we need to do this ourselves.
Although there are some pretty nice automated sorting facilities in this
country, so it’s not like we don’t know HOW to do it. I think the biggest one
is in Brooklyn, NY and is operated by Sims Municipal Recycling. I think Sims
also has one of the contracts in Chicago and somehow doesn’t have nearly the
problems with “contamination” that the other contractor does. Not that Chicago
is a model for recycling. But I guess it’s hard to scold people for not
recycling when they read that it all goes to the landfill anyway.

One thing I don’t understand – where does China get the raw materials for all
the cardboard packaging they use to ship all their manufactured goods all over
the world? Are they cutting down forests? Or they take in trash from other
countries that sort it better?

Of course it's more complicated than that. I've been hearing and reading about
this for the better part of a year now. One of the issues is that a lot of the
recyclable material was considered too dirty. It hadn't been cleaned enough to
recycle.

At some point, we're going to have to learn how to do this ourselves. The

WTF?

Does this mean it’s still showing in theaters but not in IMAX? I think we only
have one IMAX theater left near us (I think the others were converted for 3D or
something), but that one has showtimes for Apollo 11 this weekend. Should I

was selling it to a McDonalds franchise. And BOB was bought by Windstream. And
Wayport was bought by AT What a freakin’ mess.

On a related note, I have decided not to sell service anymore to any of these

Re: [AFMUG] OT Movie Review

2019-03-23 Thread chuck
Yes, totally new. I was astounded at the amount of very high resolution
footage they had. Really good footage of Buzz Aldrin backing out of the LM.
Really good footage of the last 15 seconds where Neil is hunting for a good
place to land. I am guessing I have only seen half or at the most 2/3rds of
this before.

They stitch it all together without any narration.

I wish they would have had the audio where they were instructed to push the
range radar circuit breakers. They were told to verify them as being out prior
to leaving the moon. It was the range radar that was producing a flood of
useless data that overwhelmed the computer producing the 1201 and 1202 alarms.
They would have needed it to be turned on prior to docking with the CM.

That alarm was probably the most pucker factor moment in human history.
