Yeah, I know. Ignitenet has been saying for months that they'll have channel 5
available any day... I'm assuming they're just waiting for the FCC.

The MikroTik radios are already capable of going up to 66ghz, but they haven't
been certified yet, as far as I know.

I would be surprised if it's not just 802.11ad based (which does make it odd
that they put the airFiber name on it). I suspect that it's pretty much the
same radio as the other 60ghz radios they were making (which seem to have
completely disappeared from their website now...), just with a dish attached to
it.

It's interesting to note that it only goes up to 64.8ghz, which seems odd for a
new product, considering everybody's been screaming at the other 60ghz
manufacturers to hurry up and get their products updated for the higher
channels... I guess that could just be the FCC dragging their feet on getting
certifications through for that part of the band though.

The Bottom line is if its too difficult to ground an SS outdoors at the
bare minimal place an inline protector at the router.
We do all of the above where it makes sense to otherwise inline is where
its at.

They have saved us tons of routers from being blown.

We have been doing it since day one by placing inside at the

change the cable from outdoor to indoor as well.
Since Cambiums SS's have gotten stupidly pricey, we have switched
to Ubiquiti, but they suck to mount cleanly and quickly. And to be
honest, Mccowntech are expensive as well.
My question is this, who thinks it's worth it to do every home all

Yeah, I know. Ignitenet has been saying for months that they'll have
channel 5 available any day... I'm assuming they're just waiting for the
FCC.

The MikroTik radios are already capable of going up to 66ghz, but they
haven't been certified yet, as far as I know.

Re: [AFMUG] Fwd: FCC ID SWX-AF60 Application Processed : Ubiquiti Inc. for New Equipment

2019-08-30 Thread Colin Stanners
The Cambium PMP450 SMs with FPGAs that still sell for around $230 are a bit
different - economies of scale when selling 1000 to 100 000 to a customers,
and 100mbit Ethernet only.

For the AF5X(HD), having the faster FPGA or proprietary chipset, Gigabit
performance etc, I don't think that Ubiquiti is making a big profit selling
the AF5XHD for under $400 USD. As such I can't imagine that they could sell
a smaller-market radio with higher performance / using hardware for a more
rare frequency, with an FPGA/proprietary chipset, for only $300.

I would be surprised if it's not just 802.11ad based (which does make it
odd that they put the airFiber name on it). I suspect that it's pretty much
the same radio as the other 60ghz radios they were making (which seem to
have completely disappeared from their website now...), just with a dish
attached to it.

It's interesting to note that it only goes up to 64.8ghz, which seems odd
for a new product, considering everybody's been screaming at the other
60ghz manufacturers to hurry up and get their products updated for the
higher channels... I guess that could just be the FCC dragging their feet
on getting certifications through for that part of the band though.

came from Motorola, not Cambium!

likely Wi-Fi chipset based. This would be the first member of the AirFiber

[AFMUG] OT saw a wreck yesterday

2019-08-30 Thread chuck
Supervising the use of a large Vermeer Rock Wheel yesterday, heard a noise from
the street, looked over and saw a minivan airborne. Rotating in all possible
axes (axes is the proper plural of axis, I actually looked it up).Watching
for people to come flying out of the vehicle, I was dialing 911 while trying to
cross a very busy street. Van came to a rest on its side. A man and his
daughter came climbing out the back window.

Superficial scratches. Shaken up, but largely unharmed. They had mounted the
curb and hit a fire hydrant. The hydrant came to rest half way from where it
was originally and where the car came to rest.

Quite a scene normally seen in movies. End over end, spinning and rolling. It
must have been 6’ off the ground when I first saw it.
I feared the worst. For a time I was an EMT when I was young. Glad to have
had the training, did not like being an EMT.

I would say seat belts saved them from certain critical injury and most likely
death.

Hope everyone always wears their seat belts.
My wife is still with me due to wearing hers. --

Came across a similar thing last Sunday. Drove past a wreck where a pickup

along-side the U-Haul, the U-Haul pulled out to pass as well. Guessing the
driver didn't check his mirror. The pickup veered off the road to avoid
the U-Haul hitting it. Problem was the shoulder was about three feet wide,
and then a 30 foot embankment. The pickup flipped a number of times and
ended up on the roof. There were five people in the pickup. Two in front,
and three in back. All three in the back seat were without seat belts.
All three were ejected. Two were life-flighted and the third was killed.
Front seat occupants were wearing seat belts and walked away with just
bumps and scratches. Didn't even go to the hospital. It's odd that back
when I was a kid, and they were talking about making a mandatory seat belt
law, there were lots of people up in arms over it. One of the common
reasons I heard was "If you're in a rollover, you're better off being
ejected." Ummm... no.

People who don't wear seat belts are either stupid or suicidal.

Incidentally, they're still looking for the U-Haul driver, who didn't even
stop. They're assuming he was unaware of what was going on to the side and
behind him. In addition to wearing your seat belt, always be sure to check
your mirror before you pull out to pass.

Saw that in the paper. Yeah, I remember the whole seat belt arguments. We
will get trapped in a burning car. One of the best ones were that said they
might need to bail out if the car was going over a cliff. I always look to see

Superficial scratches. Shaken up, but largely unharmed. They had mounted the

Quite a scene normally seen in movies. End over end, spinning and rolling. It

I feared the worst. For a time I was an EMT when I was young. Glad to have

I would say seat belts saved them from certain critical injury and most likely
death.

Hope everyone always wears their seat belts.

I have lost weight. Did strength training. But when simply sitting down at a
hotel conference room table makes me an invalid for a week I am anxious for a
permanent cure. Happens at least once a year anymore.

Did you see the video 2 days ago of a rhino flipping a car?

I guess the zookeeper had his seat belt on.

I can tell you from personal experience that losing 10 pounds and changing my

People who don't wear seat belts are either stupid or suicidal.

Incidentally, they're still looking for the U-Haul driver, who didn't even

Supervising the use of a large Vermeer Rock Wheel yesterday, heard a noise
from the street, looked over and saw a minivan
airborne. Rotating in all possible axes (axes is the proper plural of
axis, I actually looked it up).Watching for people to come flying out
of the vehicle, I was dialing 911 while trying to cross a very busy
street. Van came to a rest on its side. A man and his daughter came
 climbing out the back window.

Superficial scratches. Shaken up, but largely unharmed. They had mounted
the curb and hit a fire hydrant. The hydrant came to rest half way from
where it was originally and where the car came to rest.

Quite a scene normally seen in movies. End over end, spinning and
rolling. It must have been 6’ off the ground when I first saw it.

I feared the worst. For a time I was an EMT when I was young. Glad to
have had the training, did not like being an EMT.

I would say seat belts saved them from certain critical injury and most
 likely death.

Hope everyone always wears their seat belts.

My wife is still with me due to wearing hers.
