(catching up on emails) …

Strange .. I’ve asked them on several occasions in US and Canada locations and
been told it’s not something they do … most times though it was Canadian
locations I was asking – perhaps they only do it where they are not utilizing
3rd party transport (which rules all of their Canadian POP’s out)…

There is more to that $0.22/meg, though, than is advertised. A lack of BGP

Don’t’ assume … ask them…. One POP I can think of didn’t get any redundancy

There's places where HE has a router and will sell IP transit in a non-major

separates HE as an example from some other players (whom cost more)…. Although

Re: [AFMUG] 10G Wave or Ethernet Pricing

2016-04-11 Thread Faisal Imtiaz
It may or may not be worth it to do the buildout...

Depending on a number of factors... how much the contractor will charge ? and
who will be taking responsibility etc etc...
One time pay out vs financed into the monthly ...

But it cannot hurt to price it out...

Re: [AFMUG] 10G Wave or Ethernet Pricing

2016-04-11 Thread Josh Reynolds
I would say that's similar pricing that we pay for our two 10Gbps to the
data center, however our stretch is... roughly 30 miles.

Two different carrier networks.

That said, each market is vastly different and we told our transit
providers we would be looking for >10Gbps in the near future.

Re: [AFMUG] 10G Wave or Ethernet Pricing

2016-04-11 Thread Faisal Imtiaz
Pricing greatly depends on how you ask for it, who you ask, and who is asking..

ATT is the most expensive, however they may also be the carrier of last resort,
only recently they have started doing ICB on 10g ports.

I believe, the results from Windstream dealings indicate a similar behavior.

2016-04-11 Thread Faisal Imtiaz
BTW
The questions to ask would be as follows:-
What would be the 10g wave pricing if both locations were on-net ?
What happens to the pricing after the initial term is over ?

---
Keep in mind, the initial term pricing is going to pay for the the build out...
After which, technically, the pricing can be re-negotiated, but only if you
have some sort of leverage

2016-04-11 Thread Mike Hammett
I know that's what you were looking for. That's why my first message answered
your question directly.

That pricing is reasonable. I've certainly seen less, but I've also seen more.

I'm looking at ballpark transport pricing for 10G wave or ethernet to a
datacenter where we pick up HE there.

One provider has given a ballpark of $3,300 for 3-year term and $2,550 for
5-year term pending approval from engineering. They have a 1,700 foot build.
We'll see if their pricing changes after they come back from engineering. This
is a small town with grassy right of ways so buildout shouldn't be overly high
versus being in a metro area.

Bandwidth pricing is going the way of long distance. At some point in the near
future, it will be free. You just pay the fixed port charge which will be based
on the size of the pipe. I would hope you would see less than $2500.

Hey guys,

If we have fiber from 2-3 different providers within 2,500 feet of us, what is
a good price range for 10G pricing for 3-5 year terms? I'm told I should be
seeing $2,500 or less for 10G wave or ethernet transport to an on-net
datacenter within 15 miles of us.

Let me know what you have all been seeing in this respect.

Josh and Mike,

I'm not looking for internet service. We already purchase from HE and are
happy with pricing and performance.

I'm looking at ballpark transport pricing for 10G wave or ethernet to a
datacenter where we pick up HE there.

One provider has given a ballpark of $3,300 for 3-year term and $2,550 for
5-year term pending approval from engineering. They have a 1,700 foot
build. We'll see if their pricing changes after they come back from
engineering. This is a small town with grassy right of ways so buildout
shouldn't be overly high versus being in a metro area.

Re: [AFMUG] 10G Wave or Ethernet Pricing

2016-04-11 Thread Mike Hammett
There is more to that $0.22/meg, though, than is advertised. A lack of BGP
communities is a big one as is a high chance of congested peering.

HE is advertising $0.22/MB for 10G currently, but I don't know how log that

I don't like doing contracts for more than 2 years anymore.
I think our current providers are between 0.36/Mb and 0.42/Mb

Re: [AFMUG] 10G Wave or Ethernet Pricing

2016-04-10 Thread Trey Scarborough
If the Fiber is not already in your building you might not see that kind
of price. This is all dependent on where the closest access point is to
you. Even if your only 2500 feet from the fiber it could be another 2500
feet to the closest access point. This could make the cost for the drop
very high. $2500 is a standard price for on-net to on-net lower if they
are major datacenters, but if there is any build it will probably be
higher. I have seen the cost for that last 1/4 mile be 20k up to 600k
just depends on the area and they will either put it in the NRC or break
it out over the term.
