Hi Éric,

here is a scenario 100% reproducible for me on Ubuntu 8.04 with OOo 3.1.0
(vanilla) and OOO310_m15 :

1/ open a new text document
2/ add some dummy text on several pages (I used autotext DM)
3/ insert a bookmark somewhere
4/ save the document
5/ place the cursor somewhere and do some modification, it doesn't matter if it
is before or after the bookmark
6/ scroll with the mouse wheel
7/ wait until autosave
When autosave occurs OOo jumps at cursor position (step 5).

@coraythan:

You're right that, at least on my systems, the jump occurs with more changes
than just adding a manual break. It's not caused by _every_ change from the the
menus you mentioned, but close. For instance, Format->Change Case doesn't cause
a jump. Is that correct?

btw, I'm testing on OS X 10.5.7 and Windows XP Home SP3, both with OOO310m11.

I have a large monitor, completely new computer, and have no problem reproducing
the jump-to-cursor on mouse scroll, exactly as I described it. It is consistent,
and happens every time for me after a formatting change from the menu.

Also, I have tried this on multiple computers. It happens on my computer running
Windows 7, and on my girlfriend's computer, running Vista x64. You've tried
reproducing this as I suggested, clicking so the cursor is on the very top (or
bottom) of the page, and while doing that, scrolling down (or up if it was on
the bottom)?

I am a chemist which means a lot of the things I write have some big words,
which makes the word completion a very helpful feature.

I would like to be able to specify how many letters I need to type before it
offers the suggestion. Three letters is too short...I don't want
"thermodynamics" popping up each time I want to type the word "the".

When importing from a .xslx into OpenOffice OOO300m9 under certain conditions
the page divider between a page reference and a range fails to switch from a
'!'
to a '.'.

The following formula:
=COUNTIF(Games!E:E; $A$1) + COUNTIF(Games!G:G; $A$1)

imported as
=COUNTIF(games!e:e; $A$1) + COUNTIF(games!e:e; $A$1)

but imported properly once the range was added like:
=COUNTIF(Games!E1:E350; $A$1) + COUNTIF(Games!G1:G350; $A$1)

@javert03:
- thank you for recognizing my efforts in giving a good solution to this issue!
:)
- thank you for providing once again a very detailed and *analyzed* description!

Yes it could have been that! But I still cannot reproduce it the way you
describe it. :(

On *my system*: I see clearly an update of the vertical ruler (less than 0.5
sec). But even when scrolling up and losing my cursor *before* this update
happens, I don't get the jump. :(

My system: I think you are right to talk about "fast" computer and big screen
resolution because I "feel" we have here an update/timer problem which is harder
to reproduce when you have a fast system.

My system is not the best on the market (Intel Core Duo CPU with 3GHz and 2G RAM
- but, hey! Not the slowest! ;) ) and my display is done over HP w2558hc in
1920x1200 and over NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT... But it may be a reason why I cannot
reproduce it.

I have to confess that in the meantime I could YES reproduce this jump after
creating documents with 50-2000 pages with page breaks. But not in a manner
which can be *reproducible*!

It happened for me after *a while* (meaning I created a big document and didn't
touched for some minutes). When I wrote some text on a page x and scroll very
fast to page x+1.

But it remains the same good old "sometimes" because the next same created
document had no problem. :(

to be continued...

4. Type "June 2009"
5. Text reads "07/01/09"

There are two failings here:

First, "June 2009" is not the same as "1 June 2009". OOo should not assume I
mean the 1st.

Second, the Assistant does not appear to tell me what OOo has just done. When
OOo corrects something using AutoCorrect it appears so I can find out what
happened. This would have helped me find the option (which I only found after a
lot of searching) to turn this off.

@es:

Thanks for your detailed explanation of this issue's status, and thanks for your
hard work consolidating all this information.

I checked again, and am able to consistently reproduce the "jump on scrolling"
with a manual page break. If you're interested, here's how:

1. Create a new text document.
2. Insert manual page break.
3. _Immediately_ scroll up till the cursor if off screen. (see below for
specifics on this step)
4. View will jump to cursor.

Step 3 must be done immediately because the jump only occurs when the user
interface is redrawn. Here's the order of events:

1. Break is inserted, and page jumps to new cursor position (this is normal).
2. User interface is redrawn. (Rulers align to new position; 'undo' and 'save'
buttons becomes usable; status bar shows new page number, etc.). When redraw is
completed, the view jumps to cursor again (this second jump is the problem).

The scrolling _must_ occur between events 1 and 2. That means if you have a
large monitor or a fast computer, you won't be able to reproduce this bug
because you won't have enough time to get the cursor off-screen. On my MacBook,
there is a ~0.5 second delay between events 1 and 2, giving me just enough time
to get the cursor off my 13" screen. It is easier to reproduce on my old Pentium
4 desktop.

To tell if you truly cannot reproduce this bug:

1. Enable View->Rulers.
2. Perform the steps above while carefully watching the rulers.
3. After inserting a page break, you should be able to watch the rulers realign
to the new position. If the rulers realign _after_ you've gotten the cursor
off-screen, and you do not experience a jump-to-cursor, then I guess we can say
this particular jump really isn't reproducible.

Anyways, that's what I think. :-D

@MBA: Please read and comment! Thanx!

Well I'll try again to make it better now... :)

Kaker is right, I made some mistakes closing *some* issues as duplicates of this
one while I don't consider them *anymore* as duplicate.

Other thing is: the original report from "rpeckhoff" was about "jump to cursor

general "jump to cursor" problem covering many different situations.

I believe that this annoying effect (jump to cursor) has different root causes
depending on what triggers it and cannot be fixed using 1 issues but in
different ones.

Why do I believe this?
1. The fact that I (and colleagues too) cannot reproduce the "jump on scroll"
(with or without page break) while I can reproduce other jumps (clicking on some
root menu, autosave...) makes me think those are different cases.

2. Considering FME's (an OOo developer) comments from Wed Apr 2 11:44:46:

"fme->richlv: Jump on save has been fixed with issue 2968. Jump on autosave has
been fixed with issue 81697. This issue is about some more (possibly) unwanted
jumps."

...shows that already at that rime a jump on autosave was not the same issue
(from a code point of view) as a jump on save.

Now I'd like to sum up my findings (picked up from different comments) and will
write new and separated issues if needed (MBA or OD might help!):

Tested on Vista with OOo 3.1 (310m11) and DEV 3.2 m52:

1. Jump on autosave: is still reproducible.
2. Jump on save: is still reproducible.
3. Jump on clicking on menu Format or insert: I wrote issue 103790.
4. Jump on switching forth an back between 2 OOo documents: reproducible.
5. Jump on scrolling: NOT reproducible with a new/reloaded document, with or
without page breaks, with 3 pages or 50 pages full of graphics and tables.

This last behavior is described by some users (Ex: "Kaker") as "random" = not
reproducible. Which is a big difference with the other jumps which are always
reproducible.

Now I'm waiting for developers' comments to know if I should:
- Consider *any* jump as 1 issue (I don't think so).
- keep this issue as "jump on save" and write new and clean issues for the other
cases.
- keep this issue as "jump on scrolling with the mouse wheel", try my best to
get it reproduced and write new and clean issues for the other cases.

A graphics text box in Calc or Writer has a large extra area where a click
causes the text box to be selected--as if the text box occupies a large area to
the left and above its actual area.

This seems related to Issue 102802, so this may be Linux-specific as well.

See the attached documents for examples.

My experience is that the Error Report Tool more or less never works correctly,
may be 1% of my crashes causes ERT to do its work :-(

Steps to reproduce:
1. Reproduce crash in Issue 103808
2. Restart OOo
3. Restart document recovery
expected: Error Report Tool should start after document recovery
   actual: ERT does not start.

Currently I can't decide whether this really is a DEFECT or whether my crashes
are of a sort for what ERT has not been designed; pls feel free to modify Issue
Type to ENHANCEMENT if you find out that the tool only has to b improved.

still needs to be done, i.e. either need to fix all the modules to cope with
empty localize.sdfs or create dummy ones or whatever elease I dont really
care as long as the build would not uselessly duplicate the stuff and need cpu
time for processing...

a and a2 can e.g. be done by the attached patch..

l10n builds everytime. Also when WITH_LANG="en-US" or it even is unset.
Which wastes cpu time and disk space for build with only need to build en-US
(bad on slow(er) systems like arm or systems with lesser diskspace as our s390
buildds).

Disabling l10n's build make consecutive modules fail (in this example: sysui):

/home/rene/OpenOffice.org/tags/openoffice.org-3.2.0~dev300m53/sysui/util
-
/usr/bin/perl checksize.pl
Checking:../unxlngx6.pro/

Error: 1 damaged files encountered
dmake: Error code 1, while making '../unxlngx6.pro/misc/checksize.done'

ERROR: Error 65280 occurred while making
/home/rene/OpenOffice.org/tags/openoffice.org-3.2.0~dev300m53/sysui/util
rmdir /tmp/24730

Please make l10n build
 a) not be executed when WITH_LANG="en-US" (already did that)
 b) make l10n build disablable

[framework-issues] [Issue 97672] New transparent selection hardly visible

--- Additional comments from andreschna...@openoffice.org Sat Jul 25

Idon't really understand why we need to discuss what to implement.

We have a very clear request (that splits into to parts):
1st: Some user complain that the new selection is hardly visible
2nd: Some user complain that selected content (text) is hardly visible

Both issues are caused by the new implementation which added translucency and
removed inversion for the selected contend. This caused:
a) lower contrast between selection and non-selected background
b) lower contrast between selection background and selection content

@christoph: while you suggestion will address a),it will not address b) - so
this is not a solution.

for the propsol from es:

1) use system setting
I agree

2) add option in OOo to define Selection color
this is (imo) not necessary. People did not complain about the missing color
definition bevore to OOo 3.0 - so *this* is not our problem

3) add option to control translucency level
imo not necessary - this is not what people complain about

4) mix of 3) and old xor behaviour
this would even add more complexity (and will still not address the complains)

@aw:
I fully second the idea of having an option to force the old (ugly but high
contrast) XOR behaviour.
this would adress most peoples comlaints (as they were fine with the pre 3.0
behaviour). The code should still be around, as XOR should be used in
high-contrast mode anyway (according to the spec). UI changes are minimal (just
one simple option).

The question is why this is used in the first place, here (Debian) it correctly
picks up /usr/include/c++/4.3.2 directly. Bug in the compiler packaging?

Anyway, workaround added:

+ if echo $with_gxx_include_path | grep -q linux; then
+# workaround for Mandriva
+with_gxx_include_path=`cd $with_gxx_include_path && pwd`
+ fi

Thanks for your help!

I opened the configuration settings
  Tools > Options > Load/Save > VBA Properties

In the paragraph "Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP" there is a checkbox
  "Executable Code"
that was unchecked. I checked it and now it works like in OOo 2.4.

In OOo2.4 there was no such checkox, just "Load Basic code" and "Save Basic
code".

Why not check this box as default in OOo Calc 3.1?

I checked with "Ooo 3.1.0 WIN XP multilingual version German UI activated
[OOO310m11 (Build 9399)]" and can confirm the reported effect, but indeed, I
believe it is a DUP of reporter's Issue 100425 and INVALID.

If you set all document to default formatting + and then +
before you proceed as reported, all pasted contents will be TNR as expected.

@reporter:
Please feel free to reopen this issue if you can provide a step by step
instruction how to reproduce your problem with a clean new text document.

@aw: Thanks for the clarification.

To be honest, I a little bit afraid to provide options for things that should
really work out of the box... So is there any chance to improve the situation
having the "overlay" only approach in mind. Currently, that means to find a
tradeoff for visibility of the selection vs. readability of the selected
content.

Question: Why not introduce the border line (e.g. system themed) which could be
much darker in comparison to the selection area. If I know correctly, the
DrawingLayer is able to handle animation, so why don't we do the selection with
a certain transparency which is increased (faded) a short time after the
selection has been finished.
Proposal attached (2009-07-25_Proposal_Selection.png)

A DUP is an independent additional report of an already known problem with an
existing IZ report. Many DUPS show that the problem seems to exist really (even
if it has been impossible to reproduce it) and /or that the problem might be
important, because many users see the reported problem.
An appropriate stamp for issues that have been submitted twice accidently is
INVALID.

[sw-issues] [Issue 20268] The list of the automatic word-completion is not saved when closing the quickstarter.

Hello

I don't understand the evolution of this thread and i'm afraid of a
misunderstanding...

As said previously : "The word completion list is not intended to be preserved
after restart. "

Help (current version) is clear on this point : "Makes the current Word
Completion list available to other documents after you close the current
document. The list remains available until you exit OpenOffice.org."

This is exactly the current functioning...

IMHO it is a very interesting feature which must be maintained. It would be
enough to change the label to raise any ambiguity

OLD
When closing a document, save the list for later use in other documents.
NEW
Register the list during the session

I don't understand the changing for :
When closing a document, remove the words collected from it from the list

According to me, this not only a change of terms but also or an error (if the
feature stays such as it is today) or the loss of an interesting feature (if the
wording is in compliance with the new way of functioning)

Best regards

hi,
i'm working with ooo 3.1.0 build 9399 on ubuntu

Today i wanted to use the "search & replace" fonction in a spreadsheet on 3
selected columns. I set the settings to search on columns & value. The selected
columns are : k, l, m.
When running the "search & replace", if it does the job onto the selected
columns, it continue outside those selected columns (selected with the mouse &
highlighted).I don't want that be done on the whole sheet: that fonction don't
"see" the selected part of the sheet.

2 es,
> The "more cases" are different issues. That's why I changed the summary.
> To focus on 1 cause.
Well why then you were marking other issues as dups previously? And now you're
changed your mind. This issue was about jump on autosave... now it's about jump
on scroll. funny. Should we consider creating some more issues again about
autosave, save, vertical scroll bar scrolling (oh no it's not about mouse wheel
*sob*)? lol

you should reading more carefully as *coraythan* telling you not about jump when
you click menu item, but that after inserting more elements in page and then
beginning to scroll makes the bug appear more often. that's almost what I said
before and that's why I tell that the behaviour is somewhat random.

Just take some big document with whole bunch of different formatting, images,
diagrams, set cursor to page one and scroll down 20-30 pages - you'll 100% meet
this bug.
Also as I presented the case with clean XP install on virtual box, and the bug
easily produced there. Could it be that you cannot understand what people are
complaining about?

Also switching throught two different documents triggers scroll back to cursor
too. and you should note that it doesn't happen just when you switch, there is
1-2 second timeout before that happens.
